New study shows the melting of the Polar icecaps has been greatly exaggerated

September 8, 2010

The global warming/climate change argument has been unraveling for quite some time now. Many people have begun to question the credibility of the scientists–who because they rely on federal grant money to continue their studies or face the loss of their grant money have already had their credibility thusly compromised–since the Climategate scandal was first unearthed. It has become obvious that scientists have been “cooking the books” in order to perpetuate the climate change fraud for their own benefit–and nanny state, government control statists have been all too willing to go along with this fraud in order to exert more control over the people.

Still, the global warming alarmists would not let go of their belief that all human activity should be regulated in order to save the planet because they do not care how they achieve their goal, even if it means lying and fixing the data–the end justifies the means, and their endgame is to control the American people. Environment friendly politicians tried to discredit the Climategate scandal for fear that they would lose their golden opportunity to finally find the moral equivalent of war that would convince the people to rally around a common enemy and cede power to the federal government for the good of the fight.

The Climategate scandal may have been what finally killed the cap and trade bill in the Senate as politicians were unwilling to take on an issue as discredited as the climate change issue is–especially in an election year. But even this setback did not dissuade the Obama regime from trying to implement its overbearing restrictions upon the American people, he swiftly moved to implement “Plan B,” which is nothing other than a federal implementation of the climate change legislation by decree using the EPA to implement the cap and trade legislation without the Congress ever having voted on it.

Perhaps the EPA should take a look at this article before they begin the process of committing the citizens of America to environmental serfdom, because it appears that the projections of the icecaps melting has been greatly exaggerated.

We have concluded that the Greenland and West Antarctica ice caps are melting at approximately half the speed originally predicted

What is at issue here is the way the data was being calculated in order to prove that the earth is facing impending doom if we do not change our ways:

But, according to the new study, published in the September issue of the journal Nature Geoscience, the ice estimates fail to correct for a phenomenon known as glacial isostatic adjustment.

This is the term for the rebounding of Earth’s crust following the last Ice Age.

Glaciers that were kilometers (miles) thick smothered Antarctica and most of the northern hemisphere for tens of thousands of years, compressing the elastic crust beneath it with their titanic weight.

When the glaciers started to retreat around 20,000 years ago, the crust started to rebound, and is still doing so.

This movement, though, is not just a single vertical motion, lead researcher Bert Vermeersen of Delft Technical University, in the Netherlands, said in phone interview with AFP.

“A good analogy is that it’s like a mattress after someone has been sleeping on it all night,” he said.

The weight of the sleeper creates a hollow as the material compress downwards and outwards. When the person gets up, the mattress starts to recover. This movement, seen in close-up, is both upwards and downwards and also sideways, too, as the decompressed material expands outwards and pulls on adjacent stuffing.

Often ignored or considered a minor factor in previous research, post-glacial rebound turns out to be important, says the paper.

It looks at tiny changes in Earth’s gravitational field provided by two satellites since 2002, from GPS measurements on land, and from figures for sea floor pressure.

These revealed, among other things, that southern Greenland is in fact subsiding, as the crust beneath it is pulled by the post-glacial rebound from northern America.

First we learned that the IPCC was purposely manipulating the data to achieve a predetermined outcome, instead of using the data to determine the outcome; and now we have learned that the scientists have been using faulty and incomplete data all along to calculate the pace at which the glaciers are melting.

Can there be any doubt left that this whole climate change idea has been faulty–either purposely or innocently–almost from the beginning? One would think that in light of this new study the Obama regime would order a moratorium on the cap and trade regulations that are about to be put forth by the EPA until further studies can be done. That would be the responsible thing to do, but it also would interfere with Barack Obama’s plan to implement restrictive, freedom killing, regulations on the American people (remember, we can’t drive our SUVs, we can’t heat our homes as 72 degrees, but that is just for starters), so I think it is safe to say that the Obama regime will look upon these new findings with a grain of salt and will move forward with its plan to conquer the American people through deceitful and nefarious means–the end justifies the means.

I think you are right, Steve. They will take these new findings with a grain of salt and will find some other excuse to do what they want about “global warming”. Honestly, I think this is more of a religion to some people than it is anything else.

I think they will just ignore these findings because they do not fit the mold. They will pretend like this report was never published and they are going to push forward with this agenda regardless of what the evidence says.

I also believe the truth is being ignored. Phil Jones, the head of the EAU CRU now has his position back, even though it is clear they did “hide the decline.” There is no truthful way to spin it. They manipulated. The IPCC is completely discredited, and the head of it has his own company and greatly benefitted from the work of the CRU.

Their funders are dropping like flies, yet Chris Dodd is trying to push his Liveable Communities before he leaves. If we knew the depth of the wealth from GW, we would be incredulous.

Thanks for the link to the icecap study, Steve. Your report on icecaps is the most indepth I’ve seen. Generally we hear they are or are not melting, and that’s about it.

The truth is being ignored and the data is being manipulated. I think that Climategate may have changed the minds of many people–especially those that were on the fence–but that will not stop the politicians from implementing the policies. And that is because they have too much to gain from it, in both money and power. What they are trying to do to us on this issue is criminal.

Thanks for the link, there is quite a bit there. I have added it to my favorites so that I can go through it all.
I think it really is Fidal.

I think I’ve “scene” enough of the ice caps “melting”, thanks to “The Day After Tomorrow”.

True, and Al Gore actually used scenes fron “The Day After Tomorrow” in his “documentary” because he couldn’t find the real thing.
