Jim DeMint endorses Ovide Lamontagne in New Hampshire

September 11, 2010

As Ovide Lamontagne continues his apparent surge in the polls it seems as if people across the country are beginning to notice. On Friday night Ovide Lamontagne received the endorsement of Jim DeMint who stated that Ovide Lamontagne is “a proven conservative.”

Here is the full text of Jim DeMint’s endorsement:

Ovide Lamontagne has proven he will fight against President Obama’s big government agenda and push for common sense solutions to reduce spending and debt. Ovide’s campaign is surging because he’s consistently proven he’ll stand up for the principles of freedom that made our nation great

An advisor to Ovide Lamontagne reacted to the news with the following statement:

An adviser to Lamontagne told POLITICO that it was “great to have the momentum going into closing weekend in a state that is notorious for breaking late.”

Jim DeMint has broken away from Sarah Palin–who has already endorsed Kelly Ayotte, apparently putting the whole “mama grizzly” angle ahead of looking for the most conservative candidate in the race–with his endorsement of Ovide Lamontagne.

This endorsement is a good “pick up” for the surging Lamontagne and it will be interesting to see if it helps him with just three days remaining before Republicans head to the polls.

According to Ovide Lamontagne’s internal polling he trails Kelly Ayotte by ten points, but there are still eighteen percent of Republican voters undecided. Will Jim DeMint’s endorsement sway enough of these undecided voters towards him? Will Bill Binnie continue to hemorrhage supporters, and will those lost votes now go over to Ovide Lamontagne? I believe they will as those that were voting for Bill Binnie in the first place were looking for an alternative to the presumed frontrunner–Kelly Ayotte–I do not see them suddenly moving in her direction.

This battle is not over; time is running out, but Ovide Lamontagne seems to be gaining momentum in the state. Will it be enough? Is is too little, too late?

We will know the answer to these questions shortly, but in the meantime I once again implore all of New Hampshire’s undecided and wavering voters to take another hard look at Ovide Lamontagne and his oath to the people of New Hampshire.

This is the man that we need to send to Washington.

Fred is right. You guys have someone special up there.

DeMint is doing a lot of good these days. He also endorsed Christine O’Donnell, who is being fought by the GOP establishment.

Thanks guys, but it is looking like he will probably fall a little short. I am still holding out hope that he will be able to pull this off. He just doesn’t have the money to spend on advertisment that Kelly Ayotte or Bill Binnie does, but that hasn’t stopped him from pulling ahead of Binnie. There is still a chance and I am hoping fof the upset.
