Latest New Hampshire poll shows John Stephen closing in on John Lynch

November 1, 2010

Most of the experts are predicting big gains for New Hampshire Republicans tomorrow. The polls show us that most likely the Republicans will gain control of the State House, State Senate, and Executive Council, along with holding the lone United States Senate seat up for grabs and picking up at least one seat in the United States House of Representatives, with a good chance that New Hampshire Republicans will pick up both United States House of Representative seats.

The one bright side for New Hampshire Democrats is that all of the polls have shown Democrat Governor John Lynch holding a consistent double digit lead over Republican challenger John Stephen. Most of the experts are predicting that Governor Lynch will hold on for an unprecedented fourth term, but the Republican higher-ups in the state have been claiming for weeks now that this race is much closer than the polls show and have been predicting a John Stephen upset on November 2nd.

I have to admit that I have not bought into the notion that the governor’s race is as close as the Republican leadership has been claiming, I have pushed this aside as nothing more than an attempt to keep the Republican voters energized. In my opinion, I felt that this was political spin designed to draw out voters who may stay home if they feel that John Lynch is untouchable.

But the Republican leadership may be onto something here as the latest poll shows John Stephen to be surging. According to this article, two recent polls show John Stephen closing the gap on the governor. A Rasmussen poll shows John Stephen within six points, while the liberal leaning UNH poll has Governor Lynch leading 49-41%.

The key here is the fact that Governor Lynch is hovering around the 50% mark. The Rasmussen poll has him at 51% of the vote, while the UNH poll show the governor gaining only 49% of the vote. This will be a key factor heading into tomorrow’s election. Any time an incumbent politician is under 50% in the polls they are in trouble and John Lunch is hovering dangerously close to that threshold.

Governor Lynch is a successful businessman and by all accounts he is a nice guy, but the fact remains that he has increased state spending over the last four years by well over 20% while at the same time raising taxes and fees on New Hampshire residents and businesses 84 times! If Governor Lynch had run New Hampshire the way he ran his businesses perhaps New Hampshire wouldn’t be faced with the fiscal crisis we are now in.  It is hard to understand how Governor Lynch was so successful in the private sector based on his record in the public sector.

The only explanation that makes any sense is this: when Governor Lynch had a Republican majority in the House, Senate, and Executive Council he was held in check by the state government, but once Democrats took over and began to introduce bills that included higher spending and tax increases John Lynch forgot that business sence that made him successful and acquiesced to the more liberal legislature due to a feeling of obligation instead of standing up for the people of New Hampshire.

John Lynch had a chance to prove that he was a leader but once  the liberal Democrats in New Hampshire gained power they grabbed him by the ear and dragged him down the path to irresponsibility. This proved once and for all that John Lynch was not and is not the leader he claimed to be.

If you are tired of the taxes and the irresponsible spending in New Hampshire it is time for you to head to the polls and pull the lever for John Stephen.

I still expect Governor Lynch to pull out a victory tomorrow, but we may see a new Governor Lynch, he may be more like the old Governor Lynch because the Republican majority will once again be able to tie his hands and slow him down. But we are now faced with the reality that Governor Lynch may be vulnerable and we cannot take the chance of sending him back to the State House when we have a true fiscally conservative candidate, so I implore everyone to head to the polls and send John Stephen to the corner office, it is the only sure way to ensure that New Hampshire will reign in the out of control spending.

I’m am so praying that Governor Lynch is out tomorrow. I like the guy that is running against him. I liked him when I was living in the White Mtns. Who knows, this may be the biggest blow-back we have ever seen. Most people I talked to when I was voting today where not on the politicians side.

It is going to be close but we will know soon! I didn’t think Stephen had a chance but the electorate seems to be breaking his way.
