Democrats ask Nancy Pelosi to reconsider her decision to run for minority leader

November 10, 2010

During the 2010 election cycle the media tried desperately to portray the Republican party as a party in disarray. The media continually tried to portray the Tea Party as being a negative for the Republican party by making the claim that the Tea Party was splitting the party and a civil war within the party was imminent. This civil war was supposed to lead to the Democrats’ victories in November as the Tea Party split the vote and unintentionally sent the Democrats back to the Congress.

We now know that there was no splitting of the Republican party–sure the Tea Party cost the Republicans two seats, but there was no civil war–the party was united in their message and made historic gains in the last election. But while the media was building up this potential civil war they completely ignored the party in which a civil war was already brewing–the Democrat party.

While the media claimed that the Republican party was splitting up they continued to ignore the fact that many Democrats were not only trying to distance themselves from the president and his policies, but were also trying to distance themselves from Nancy Pelosi.

During the campaign several Democrats claimed that while they voted for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House once before they would not vote for her again if they were sent back to Congress. This should have been a clear sign to the media that the Democrat party was splitting and facing a civil war, but they were too focused on creating an artificial civil war in the Republican party to notice what was happening right under their noses in the Democrat party.

And now we are learning that there may still be deep divisions within the Democrat party; several Democrats are asking Nancy Pelosi to step aside to let someone else become the minority leader.

The Democrats are in disarray, they are still dazed by their stunning defeats last week. Less than two years ago the Democrats were at the top of their game, riding an anti-Bush wave into power. But there was one problem with their victory and it was hidden beneath the surface until they actually had to govern. The Democrats did not stand for anything, the stood against George Bush and while that was a successful way to campaign, simply being against something is not enough to ensure successful governance. The “it’s Bush’s fault” blame game wore thin once people realized that the Democrats’ vision of government was much different than the Average person’s vision of government.

No longer do the people of America believe that the problems our nation still faces are all Bush’s fault. The people realize that this regime is now responsible for the policies that are currently in place, and the failure of these policies lies solely with this regime. This regime’s failure to live up to the unrealistic expectations of the American people–expectations that they are responsible for creating in the first place–has cost the Democrats control of the Congress, and sent Barack Obama’s approval rating plummeting in two short years to a level it took President Bush six years to sink to.

Barack Obama is now the most polarizing person in American politics, and Nancy Pelosi is right up there with him. Democrats realize this also and they are trying to run away from these two people as if they had the plague. But the fact is that Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi would not have been able to pass their radical agenda without these Democrats–they are as guilty as the rest when it comes to the failed policies of the Obama regime. Now they are trying to save their jobs by throwing Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama under the bus–but to steal an analogy from Barack Obama–these same Democrats have been driving the bus for two years. Now that their policies have failed they are pointing their fingers at their leadership and while the leadership of the Democrat party is to blame for most of their problems, it shows the American people exactly how fickle they can be.

Unless Nancy Pelosi adheres to their request and steps aside, the political infighting within the Democrat party is sure to intensify. Democrats are hoping that Nancy Pelosi will step aside so that they can avoid the embarrassment of voting against her, they do not want a public fight for the party leadership and they are afraid that voting against her will show the people exactly how divided the party is. There very well could be a civil war brewing in the Democrat party, the question is, will the media cover it with as much vigor as they did about the possible Republican/Tea Party civil war that was not to be?

I think we know the answer to that question already. For the most part the media has ignored the growing controversy in the Democrat party and they will continue to do so. The media was right about one thing, there is a growing rift within a major political party–they just had the wrong party.

Nancy Pelosi has been very much a hard case while she has been Speaker. It seems to me that she is very hard to deal with and requires the members of her party to stay in lock step with her or otherwise feel her wrath. A person can only take so much of that kind of leadership, and I use that term in the loosest possible sense, before rebelling. I think that is what we are seeing now. There are many in her party who are tired of being pushed around by her and the other leaders and are ready for a change.

I think you are probably right. Pelosi was probably a very difficult person for her fellow Democrats to work with, and now that the pasrty is down the last thing they want to do is name her their leader once again. They probably want to be with her for this reason and for the fact that she will be blamed for pushing the pasrty back into the minority.

For her own sake, I hope she decides to “leave on a high note”. Take some advice from George Costanza!

I think it is already to late for that, but in the spirit of George Costanza I hope she makes good time when she heads out the door!
