Ovide Lamontagne to form the Granite Oath PAC

December 2, 2010

As some of my regular readers may remember, I endorsed Ovide Lamontagne in the New Hampshire primary in his bid to replace the retiring Judd Gregg. Ovide Lamontagne lost to Kelly Ayotte by about 1,600 votes, but instead of calling for a recount, he conceded the election to KellyAyotte for the good of the Republican party claiming that the people are the sovereign and he accepts the will of the people. In his defeat he showed me the character that made me support him in the first place.

Out of all the New Hampshire candidates that I endorsed there was none that I was more excited about than Ovide Lamontagne, and while I think that Kelly Ayotte will turn out to be a very good senator for my state I still feel as if we missed an opportunity to send the person with the most conservative credentials running for any office in New Hampshire to a position of leadership.

Ovide Lamontagne made a run from relative obscurity–he was a man with no money, running a grassroots campaign–to coming within a hair of becoming the next senator from New Hampshire, and much of his success can be attributed to Ovide’s Oath. Ovide’s Oath was a fifteen point promise–a conservative manifesto–to the people of New Hampshire and it resonated well within the state.

It is with great pleasure that I read this story about what Ovide Lamontagne plans on doing moving forward. Instead of heading home in defeat with his head hung low, Ovide Lamontagne has decided to stay in the spotlight and fight for conservative New Hampshire values. He has announced that he is going to start a political action committee entitled the Granite Oath PAC. He is taking Ovide’s Oath national!

he’s setting up his own political action committee at the state and federal levels. An extension of his own oath, he’s calling it the “Granite Oath PAC,” which he plans to parlay into both a forum for conservative dialogue during the GOP presidential primary campaign and a conduit for financial help for conservative New Hampshire state and federal candidates

Here is what Ovide Lamontagne said in announcing this news:

It’s important for me to stay involved in policy issues as well as be involved with candidates in the 2012 cycle,” Lamontagne said. He said the PAC will be involved in “policy research,” set up a web site and “do outreach to like-minded conservatives.”

Lamontagne laid the philosophical groundwork for the PAC in an op-ed in the New Hampshire Union Leader on Nov. 19, in which he called on newly elected GOP majorities in Washington and Concord to “deliver on their promises,” and wrote, “I intend to do my part to ensure that the pledges taken by conservatives over the past year are honored and that the will of the people is honored.”

He called in that piece for a “Granite Oath” to “rededicate ourselves to the authentic American and uniquely Granite State ‘can-do’ spirit of rugged individualism, personal liberty and freedom

In addition to keeping his eye on the newly elected Republicans to help ensure they deliver on their promises, he will also be hosting several events with presidential hopefuls–Rick Santorum will be attending the first event.

Eventually he will be endorsing a candidate for president and we can rest assured that Ovide Lamontagne will be looking for true conservative credentials before endorsing a candidate–there will be no RINO endorsement here.

This is exciting news and I cannot wait to see what kind of impact it has on New Hampshire politics in the future. I am glad that Ovide Lamontagne has decided to take an active role in politics moving forward.

The link is in the fourth paragraph, where I wrote “it is with great pleasure that I read this article.” The link is to a general New Hampshire politics article, you will have to scroll down through the article, the story is about halfway down. Sorry for the confusion. 🙂

That is very encouraging. I remember your earlier stories about him. He seems like our kind of guy.

He is exactly the kind of person we need here. Dare I think that he might run for governor in 2012?
