ObamaCare: 222 companies have now been granted healthcare waivers

December 7, 2010

    The ObamaCare fallout continues:

The healthcare reform law set minimum amounts of coverage that healthcare plans must meet in order to be acceptable to the Obama regime. Many large companies carry plans called “mini-med” plans which set limits on how much money they will pay out in a given year, but these limits will be phased out over the next couple of years, meaning that the companies which carry this type of plan will be in violation of the healthcare reform law.

As I first wrote here, over 100 large multi-million dollar companies were granted waivers to shield themselves from the new law after they threatened to drop healthcare insurance altogether because they decided it would be much cheaper for them to pay the government a fine than incur astronomical healthcare cost increases.

Since I first wrote that article a few short weeks ago the amount of companies who have applied for and received waivers to exempt themselves from the healthcare reform law have doubled. 222 multi-million dollar companies–including titans like Waffle House and Universal Studios in Orlando–now do not have to meet the minimum standards required by the healthcare reform law.

According to Barack Obama, the healthcare reform law was supposed to provide millions of uninsured Americans with insurance, and he also claimed that if people like their insurance they would be able to keep it. In light of those claims, I found the following statement by a spokesman for Universal Studios very interesting. When explaining why Universal Studios asked for the waiver, he said:

The new legislation would have left our part-time workers without their medical coverage,” said Tom Schroder of Universal Orlando Public Relations.

“We sought the waiver so that we could continue to provide them with the coverage they need and deserve,

The healthcare reform law would have been directly responsible for hundreds of thousands of employees losing their healthcare coverage if the waiver was not granted–the exact opposite of the stated goal of the law. Now these multi-million dollar corporations do not have to meet the federally mandated minimums for healthcare coverage. Why even have the law on the books if it is so devastating that so many companies are being granted waivers? This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and is turning out to be quite an embarrassment to the president.

There are 222 companies which were granted the healthcare waivers, who knows how many waivers were asked for and denied. Small companies and individuals who cannot afford either to purchase healthcare coverage or acquire the services of a lawyer to threaten to fight the government if they are not granted a waiver are the ones who are going to be left holding the bag here while large corporations and unions are exempted from the law, and this is reform?

Couple this news with the fact that the SEIU will be dropping healthcare coverage for children, the AARP and Boeing cutting benefits, and doctors dropping Medicaid–all of which I have written about in the past–we are beginning to see exactly how bad this law is. Perhaps if lawmakers had taken the time to read the bill they might have had an inkling about the negative effects of the bill we are just now beginning to see, but Nancy Pelosi said the bill must be passed so that they could see what was in it, so the bill was passed and we are just now beginning to see how bad this law is. This is just the beginning, it isn’t going to get any better once more regulations begin to be implemented.

Here is the list of companies which have been healthcare reform waivers.

If they can get single payer set up, they’ll pull these exemptions. This is just temporary I think.

As radical students, during Kent State, I / we, went to a Left / Right conference at USC. We were asked to stay in school and become teachers so we could change the world to conform to their / our ideal.

I’ve grown up since and understand what has transpired. The leftists have accomplished their goals.

They have educated our children to believe the way they do and they control the media ….. we’re headed for chaos and it’s intentional. Evil people are manipulating the political landscape – they’re traitors and will destroy America.

It doesn’t matter that he was elected by the gullible, by the historically-inept, ….. he was the one appointed by the puppeteers to bring America into the Chaos of Socialism / Communism / Fascism. [It doesn’t matter that his exemptions are only for a year and they’ll have to “re-apply” (if that’s true), by then, ……]

Those who do not pay attention ….. those who do not understand, those who do not care, and do not think that the holocaust can happen here …… just wait. Once we’re dismantled, you’ll see, if you’re alive, then will come, …. the march …. on to Israel ……

Healthcare? He doesn’t give a crap about healthcare ………

You are an idiot……. A COMPLETE FUCKING MORON….

To suggest that ANY president is going to impose a fucking holocaust….. SIMPLY BECUSE YOU DON’T AGREE WITH HIS POLITICAL BELIFS…..

Your assine ravings have NO MERIT IN REALITY!

So your point is that Obama is slowly imposing a “socialist/fascist/ communist..holocaust”…. starting by making Health Care more affordable for 80% of all Americans, including the poorest of our citizens and our seniors (http://politicalcorrection.org/healthcare/201010250023).

Yep…. Okay… Let me guess Obama is waiting for his second term before he throws together another crystal nacht….. HOW FUCKING PATHETIC CAN A PERVERTED “CONSERVATIVE” IDEOLOGY GET? It’s not even conservative ideology…. it’s psychotic ideology… perhaps all the LSD going around at Kent State…..

      Exhibit A people…. Josiah wins.

No comment on your preferred method of discourse, but you link a Media Matters article like that is supposed to give credibility to your statement of “health care affordability”, I mean seriously? Might as well have linked White House.org.

It sure does. If you are a Democrat special interest group you will be exempted while the rest will have to pay.

Great snag of the list of “waivers”. I believe they will be given the waivers again. After all,we can’t have those nasty Republicans deny healthcare coverage to these folks now can we?

I think so too, once they are on the waiver list they will remain on the waiver list, after all, one good turn deserves another. I am sure they will remember the waiver when they next head to the polls.

Great article, all I can say is, hopefully, the new Congress can begin some procedure to overturn this ObamaCare BS, and after 2012, if we don’t, or can’t muster the votes to take FULL CONTROL of this nation, you had all better be prepared to defend home and family..

Great article Steve. You’ve covered all the hypocrisy and failure. I have to agree with Texas Fred.I’d also add that even if we win in 2012, we’ll still need to be prepared, because the left will throw the mother of all tantrums if they lose their control.

You are probably right, the Democrats will double down if they lose in 2012 and they will not stop fighting until they regain control. I will not stop fighting either; bring it on!

Obamacare is so awesome – I want to get me some of that!

Good post, I haven’t heard of the new 222 number, I was still stuck on the 100 number.
