Lame duck senate looks to pass another $1 trillion spending bill with thousands of earmarks
I guess we have to hand it to the lame duck Senate, they are looking to end this legislative session with one hell of a bang. Ignoring the message that the voters sent to them in November, the Senate is readying another 2,000 page, $1 trillion spending bill loaded with over 6,000 earmarks. And to top it off, Barack Obama’s good friend, “Mike” McConnell is claiming that nobody (at least on his side) has even seen the bill.
This is eerily similar to the situation surrounding the healthcare reform legislation and the stimulus bill that drew the ire of the voters and led to the demise of the Democrat majority in the Congress. It is obvious that the Democrats in the Senate have not learned their lesson, and just do not give a damn about what the American people want; they are determined to pass whatever they want to regardless of what the American people told them at the polls last November. Is it any wonder that so many of them lost their jobs?
When the American people voted last month they voted against the out of control spending by the federal government, the huge bills that were voted on without being read, and the earmarks included in the bills. But still this bill contains everything that the American people rejected a few short weeks ago, and I can come to no other conclusion than the fact that the lame duck Senate just doesn’t care what we want. They will try to pass this bill regardless of the message that was sent to them, and they will do it while smiling at us and telling us that they are doing it for our own good.
The lame duck Congress cannot end soon enough for me!

At this point in time, I wouldn’t be surprised at anything this Congress does. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I began reading the information put out by Senator Coburn. I hope and pray that something changes after the first of the year.

They are trying to ram through everything that they couldn’t get to in the last two years, even though we have already told them “enough is enough.” We have to hope most of this can be delayed, and we have to hope that the new Congress is going to be different. My outgoing senator–Judd Gregg–has proposed that the Congress pass a small, short term budget bill that would get the country through to the next Congress only. That would seem like the smart thing to do.

More reasons why it’s good Democrats will be out of power in the House soon. Looks like they will do a lot of expensive damage before they depart.

I can’t wait for them to be gone! Hopefully the Republicans can leesen the damage the Democrats are able to do before the Congress convenes.

BAH! And I learned from Bella over at Can I Just Finish My Waffle, that this huge 1 trillion bill includes none other than . . .
That FDA Food Safety Modernization Act! I was all happy that one didn’t make it, but just like a zombie movie, these hideous bills just keep getting up and shuffling toward us.
Thanks for manning the watchtower.

Thankfully this disaster was pulled from the table by Harry Reid.

The disturbing thing is that they believe that they did good by their constituents and by America. And years of this kind of thinking has changed America into what it is today. Sigh!

They really just do not get it! We can only hope that this is about to change with the new Congress but even if it does it is going to take years to undo the damage.

I read that Obama plans on puting a lot of those who lost in November, on the government payroll doing something. If that is not a slap in the face. No doubt a bribe for staying around and voting for the porkulus, and all these other nasties.

I heard the same thong also. He is going to reward them for sacrificing themselves for Obama’s greater good. It is disgusting!

The arrogance is astounding. We sent them a message in November, and they are telling us to STFU.

They really do not give a damn about what we were trying to tell them, it sickens me!

I’m having trouble commenting on your site for some reason. Did you know that apparently they tacked on the FDA Food Safety and Modernization Act to this monstrosity, as well?

Yes I did, they tried to sneak it through, luckily Harry Reid pulled this bill! For some reason you have been marked as spam, this happened to Larry from Political Realities recently also. I will send an email to askimet and tell them, they will be able to fix this problem. Sorry for the inconvenience.

A few issues here:
1. When one of the bill’s sponsors is a Republican, why wasn’t it shared with the rest of them? Do you blame the opposing party? Or do you blame those that did not communicate properly with their own?
2. There is a disturbing number of earmarks in this for people who signed a pledge to refuse earmarks.
3. Are we surprised that any party that is falling out of power will grasp at the last straw on its way out?
