The Supreme Court hands Arizona a victory in fighting illegal immigration
By a vote of 5-3 the United States Supreme Court handed Arizona a victory in her fight against illegal immigration. While this was not a decision on THE controversial immigration law which would let Arizona enforce federal immigration law by allowing the police to ask for a suspected illegal alien’s proof of citizenship it is a victory nonetheless.
In addition to Arizona’s controversial immigration law, which will make its way to the Supreme Court eventually, the state also passed a law which would REQUIRE a company to verify a perspective employee’s citizenship before that person could be hired. Today the Supreme Court ruled that this law was constitutional as the individual states have the right to ensure that businesses do not hire illegal aliens.
This is a blow to the Obama regime and to the justice department as they were both opposed to this law and sought to fight it in court. The Obama regime’s opposition to this law is interesting because liberals like to shift the blame from the illegal aliens to the companies which hire them for the influx of illegal aliens into this country. Democrats like to claim that if businesses were not willing to hire illegal aliens for the cheap labor that illegals would not be enticed into breaking into the United States and yet when a state moved to curb the illegal hiring of aliens the Obama regime challenged it in court.
While this is a victory for Arizona and the American people the fight is not over for the Supreme Court will still hear arguments on Arizona’s more controversial immigration law and I feel as if Arizona is destined to lose that fight as Article 1 Section 8 of the constitution gives the federal government the right to regulate immigration.
But Arizona’s controversial immigration law does not go above and beyond federal law, in fact it mirrors federal law, so the question will be asked of the federal government; if you are not willing to enforce the laws on the books should not the states be allowed to enforce the laws you are unwilling to enforce?
Stay tuned…..

One for the good guys.

Government destructive, yes. People altered it (SB 1070), check. Most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Absolutely.
Right there in the Declaration of Independence. SB 1070 stands. Next…

Lets hope this is the beginning of actually securing our borders. The illegals can be rounded up and deported. I don’t care what country they are from. If they are here illegally, then they go back. Charge the country they came from for the deportation.

I hope it is the beginning, it will be interesting when the next Arizona bill makes it to the SC to see how that one turns out.

This is a teriffic step the right way! 🙂
Here in Florida, one of my employees was outraged because her driver’s license is up for renewal, and her notice instructed her to bring in copies of her birth certificate and her marriage license (because her name is no longer what it was on her birth certificate). She was seriously pissed because she’s had a Florida DL under her married name for about 30 years.
So I sat her down and explained that this was about illegal aliens. We use our DLs to ID us at the voting booth, so now, because of a change in the law, starting this year, we have to have positive ID to get our DLs when they come up for renewal. EVERY time.
If you are not a native-born citizen, you have to bring in your birth certificate from your nation of birth (or whatever form of ID they use for that purpose), plus either green card or naturalization papers. The new DL will have your citizenship status (or lack of it) on it, and it WILL be checked at the voting precinct.
Until all of the old DLs are expired (mine expires in 2016), we will have to bring an alternate form of ID along with the DL with us when we vote. I plan to hit this gnat with a sledge hammer and take my birth certificate with me. 😀
My employee was finally mollified (she’d been one of the people griping about illegal aliens voting!), and I’m personally delighted with the change in the law.
Personally, I wish they’d take this one step further and purge the voter registration rolls and make all of us re-register with bullet-proof ID.

Yes this was a step in the right direction, hopefully the first of many. What you are going through in FLorida is a necessary evil because of what we have allowed to happen for so many years.

I think it is worth the extra effort. Like I said, I wish the state would completely purge the voter registrations and make us all re-register. But one can push the electorate only so far, I suppose.

Making the whole electorate re-register seems like an extreme proposition, but if it has gotten that bad than perhaps it is what is needed.
