Weinergate: Anthony’s Weiner exposed
When the revelations of Anthony’s Weiner first came to light he should have done the right thing and resigned. But he chose to lie and to use his aides to “investigate” the incident, using taxpayer dollars to coverup what he knew was his indiscretion all along. He claimed he was a victim and attacked the person who “exposed” him and those that dared to question him. All that he accomplished with these antics was to make a bad situation even worse, and now it is getting still worse for the congressman.
As if it wasn’t bad enough that he used his congressional phone during congressional hours on the taxpayer’s dime to have steamy phone sex, and if it weren’t bad enough that this predator who was interested in girls half his age used the internet to advance his “urges” while at the same time sponsoring legislation to crack down on internet predators, Anthony’s Weiner has now allegedly made an appearance on the internet.
The uncensored picture can be seen on gawker.com for anyone who is interested in seeing the cause of all of Anthony Weiner’s problems.
Andrew Breitbart claimed to have an X-rated photo of the offending Congress “member” but decided not to release it, however he showed the picture to Opie and Anthony who took a picture of the picture and posted it online.
The media is sure to attack Andrew Breitbart for giving the picture to two people who he probably knew would release it, they will treat him as if he is the one who has committed a crime. But the fact is that Anthony Weiner would not be in this position today if he had simply used better judgement and if he simply lived up to the rules he expects the rest of us to follow. Anthony Weiner has nobody to blame but himself for he alone knows exactly how big and widespread his indiscretions are.
If Anthony Weiner did the honorable thing and he resigned when the story broke–as did Republican Christopher Lee, and he only appeared on the internet without a shirt on–he would have saved himself, his family, and his fellow congressmen the embarrassment they are all going through. But Anthony Weiner was too arrogant to do what is right, he felt this would all blow over but he was wrong.
It is time for Anthony Weiner to take his balls and go home. He has embarrassed himself, his family, his party, the Congress, and the United States of America all because he became so drunk with power that he felt he was invincible and beyond reproach. It is precisely this type of arrogant, condescending, smarmy, elitist attitude by those in the government who feel they are above the law that has so many Americans fed up with the current state of our government.

Steve, I don’t disagree with your assertion that Weiner should resign, but I lost track of your column blasting Governor Schwarzenegger for fathering a child with a member of his household staff and keeping the whole thing under wraps while carrying out his duties as Governor. I also missed your denunciation of South Carolina’s Governor Sanford, whose infatuation with an Argentine woman made global headlines while he insisted on keeping his seat.
And I forget what you said when Idaho’s Larry “Wide Stance” Craig pleaded guilty, then announced his resignation from the Senate, then withdrew his guilty plea, and then withdrew his resignation. I hope you pointed out that his legacy, especially, was shameful because he staunchly voted against gay rights and then turned out to enjoy spending some time out on the down low. (i know there are people who insist on defending Craig to this day, but they cannot explain why, in his hunt for a men’s room, he walked all the way to the opposite end of the airport from where he was dropped off and where his gate was.)
Sure, Lee resigned within a couple of hours of getting caught (which is perhaps why we never found out all the other stuff he had done beforehand . . .). But it’s time you and the other hardcore partisans here gave up this fantasy that only the Dems stonewall and try to tough it out once caught. The fauxtrage over Weinergate is starting to wear a bit thin – the next GOPer to get caught might not be as acquiescent as Lee was, and might put up a fight over leaving, and then where will you guys and your protestations of “It’s only the Dems who try to get away with it!!!!” be?
Take good care, and may God bless us all!

Point of information – Craig didn’t withdraw his guilty plea. He attempted to do so on the absurd grounds that the plea “was not knowing and intelligent and therefore was in violation of his constitutional rights.” That is, by pleading guilty, this sitting United States Senator had somehow violated his own Constitutional rights, and demanded that the Court right that wrong. The judge stopped laughing long enough to deny the motion to withdraw the guilty plea.

While you are at it, you forgot Mark Foley. All of the examples you provided embarrassed themselves, the families, their party, and the country and you are not going to see me defend them here. All of these men were elected to serve the people and they let the people down because once they gained power they felt they were invincible, and they used their power for their own personal reasons.
The reason I used Lee as an example is because it is the most recent and closely resembles this case, you said:
“Sure, Lee resigned within a couple of hours of getting caught (which is perhaps why we never found out all the other stuff he had done beforehand . . .)”
That was a point that I was trying to make; Weiner knew how widespread his indescretions were and should have stepped down because it was certain they would come out. By stepping down quickly Lee has avoided the embarrassment that Weiner now faces for we know there was more to the Lee story.
You may also notice that my last sentence about the people being fed up with the government because of stories like this makes no mention od party:
“It is precisely this type of arrogant, condescending, smarmy, elitist attitude by those in the government who feel they are above the law that has so many Americans fed up with the current state of our government”

Also, don’t forget that I was very hard on Newt Gingrich for his past indescretions in my first post after he announced his candidacy. I wrote that I will not support him because of this, I am holding him to the same standard I am holding Weiner.
