Barack Obama stops the EPA from implementing cap and trade

September 2, 2011

You may remember that after the Congress failed to pass a cap and trade bill that Barack Obama claimed there was more then one way to skin a cat; what he was referring to was the EPA and its plan to implement a cap and trade on their own without the consent of the Congress. All appeared lost as it seemed certain that Barack Obama would get his radical agenda implemented through the EPA, but earlier today Barack Obama ordered the EPA to cease and desist on its plan to implement cap and trade.

President Barack Obama on Friday scrapped his administration’s controversial plans to tighten smog rules, bowing to the demands of congressional Republicans and some business leaders.

Obama overruled the Environmental Protection Agency — and the unanimous opinion of its independent panel of scientific advisers — and directed administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw the proposed regulation to reduce concentrations of ground-level ozone, smog’s main ingredient. The decision rests in part on reducing regulatory burdens and uncertainty for businesses at a time of rampant uncertainty about an unsteady economy

This is glorious news indeed, but we must not celebrate just yet because the fight is not over. Barack Obama still believes in his cap and trade agenda and because of this the cap and trade issue will not be gone until Barack Obama is gone. Barack Obama admitted that under his energy policy the price of energy would “necessarily skyrocket” and with the dismal job report which came out earlier today Barack Obama simply did not have the political courage to continue pushing a policy which would hurt already struggling Americans even more.

The reason for this decision, in my opinion, is twofold: first, this was a political decision. Barack Obama wants to get reelected and if cap and trade were implemented during this election cycle it would have further hurt the economy and made his reelection bid even tougher than it already is. He was not ready to make the committment to cap and trade at the sacrifice of his presidency so all he did was delay the implementation of this policy until after the election is over.

We can rest assured that if Barack Obama wins reelection that he will have no qualms about letting the EPA implement cap and trade when he no longer faces the prospect of reelection–this is just one reason why it is so important to defeat Barack Obama and the Democrats next year.

But there is a second reason why I feel as if he made this announcement: with the “Super” Committee set to convene shortly to negotiate a budget deal I believe that Barack Obama plans to use this announcement as a bargaining chip to guilt the committee into agreeing to tax increases.

Barack Obama will make an appeal to the American people; when he takes the stage next Thursday it is believed that he will call for “shared sacrifice” and he will tell the American people that his decision to stop the EPA from implementing a policy which is so near and dear to his heart is because he is willing to sacrifice something that he believes in for the good of the nation. He will then call on the Congress to follow his example and he will demand that the Republicans “sacrifice” their no new tax pledge for the good of the nation, siting his own “sacrifice” as an example.

Like a chess player, Barack Obama makes no political move without looking several moves into the future, and this is no different. Barack Obama has a plan to use this issue as a bargaining chip to get the tax increases he wants and then if he wins reelection cap and trade will be back on the table, so in reality he will have sacrificed nothing but time.

You know there is always an ulterior motive with the president. He is just setting the stage for more to come. This doesn’t suprise me in the least. He WILL bring it back when necessary, you can bet on it. This “shared sacrifice” will not be shared, it will look like it at face value to most people, but it won’t be. Anymore, I don’t believe anything out of his mouth. I will not be watching his speech.

Cap and trade is not dead, it is simply sleeping until after the electioni. If he wins reelection it will be back on the table, this is just one more reason why he must be defeated!

This is a smart political move by the President. However, the EPA is still pushing utilities to increase their percentage of green energy in their total output and they still tightening regulations power plant emissions, etc. this is just the tiny tip of the regulations that keep piling-up.

Very true Jim; this was a smart move by the president but I think that the people are starting to see through this.

So . . . doesn’t this pretty much prove that Obama knows how damaging his policies are? How else would you know to hold off for political reasons?

That is true, he does know what he is doing. The problem is that most people are not listening. Damage is what he does best other than organizing.

Yes he does know, I agree. But I hope that this wakes some more people up.

I think it tells us he knows. But I also don’t think he cares because I would bet anything that this comes back again if Obama wins reelection. Hopefully this will show more people what Barack Obama is all about.

He is learning from the best…he has to play the games that the “big boys” play. He tried to do what was right for the country and be on the up and up–that just didn’t work.

The Republican party needs to continue to pressure this pretender. We need to completely defund the EPA in the House.

I agree, we have him on the run and the best way to ensure that the EPA is defunded is to elect more conservatives to the Congress. And to the White House as well.
