Ovide Lamontagne will run for governor of New Hampshire

September 17, 2011

The Union Leader is now reporting in this article that Ovide Lamontagne will announce on Monday that he is running for governor of New Hampshire.

Promising to bring “renewed conservative leadership to the governor’s office,” Manchester attorney Ovide Lamontagne said this afternoon that he will announce his candidacy for governor on Monday, Sept. 19.

At the state and federal levels, “Government is out of control, spends too much, is inefficient is not doing the work of the people as it should,” Lamontagne said in an exclusive interview with the Granite Status

Regular readers of America’s Watchtower may recall that I am a huge Ovide Lamontagne supporter and I am thrilled with this news. This is what I wrote when it was learned that Ovide Lamontagne was seriously considering running for governor:

Ovide Lamontagne first gained a statewide name during the last election when he ran as a little known dark horse candidate for the vacant New Hampshire Senate seat against Kelly Ayotte. He had very little money in addition to little name recognition, but his conservative message resonated with the people of New Hampshire–and within the Tea Party–and in the last week leading up to the primary Ovide Lamontagne made a serious push and came within 1,500 votes of defeating the well funded Republican “establishment” candidate, Kelly Ayotte. Kelly Ayotte went on the trounce the Democrat–Paul Hodes–and has done a wonderful job since winning the senate seat, but it was in defeat when Ovide Lamontagne showed the people of New Hampshire the type of standup guy he was.

The margin of defeat was so close that most candidates would have asked for a recount and would have been justified in doing so, but Ovide Lamontagne–in an effort to unite the party–declared that he would accept the verdict of the people and would fully support Kelly Ayotte for United States Senate, going so far as to show up in his moment of defeat at Kelly Ayotte’s victory party.

This is what Ovide Lamontagne had to say in defeat:

I believe that in our American republic, the people are the sovereign. That means the people are the king, and we are their subjects” Lamontagne said. “Well, the people of Hew Hampshire have spoken and they have ruled. While I’m disappointed with the result, I humbly accept their verdict

It was this statement that confirmed my belief that I had chosen the right candidate for the vacant senate seat. And it was at this point that I decided to support Ovide Lamontagne in any future political venture he decided to engage in; it was also at this point that I first entertained the notion that maybe, just maybe, he would run for governor.

And Monday it looks as if that notion will become a reality. Last Thursday Governor Lynch announced that he would not seek reelection and when Ovide Lamontagne was asked about the chances he would run for the soon to be vacant governorship he once again took the high road by stating he would have an announcement soon, but stated that it was not appropriate for him to comment on his future because the day belonged to the outgoing governor and his family. A truly classy move from a classy man and that announcement will come on Monday.

Governor Lynch still remains fairly popular in the state and up until this point the Republicans have not been able to field a strong candidate to defeat him but I thought that if Lamontagne decided to run the momentum he gained during his senate bid might be enough for him to defeat the incumbant governor. With the news that Governor Lynch will not seek reelection I feel as if this makes Ovide Lamontagne the frontrunner to win the governorship; it is very early of course and we don’t know who his primary challengers are, or who will run for the governorship on the Democrat side, but I feel as if Ovide Lamontagne’s message will resonate with the people of New Hampshire and propel him into that office.

In case you haven’t noticed, I am very excited about this news and I will do everything in my power to support Ovide Lamontagne and help him become the next governor of New Hampshire.

Well, from the sounds of it, your man has character. We know what most would do in such a close situation, demand a recount and then find votes. There are some that just won’t accept when they are defeated. Here is hoping that what you wish for comes true in Mr. Lamontagne becoming the next governor of New Hampshire.

It is great to actually have a person I can support running for office–I haven’t had a candidate run for president that I felt strongly about in a long time so it does feel good when someone comes along that isn’t just the lesser of two evils.
I think Senator Ayotte has done a great job since her election and I like her, I did not have a problem voting for he once she won the nomination.
