Senate Republicans call for a vote on Barack Obama’s jobs bill, but Harry Reid blocks it

October 5, 2011

For what seems like weeks, Barack Obama has been crossing the country on his reelection campaign while demanding that the Congress pass his jobs bill right away. He claims that it is imperative for the Congress to act on this bill in order to help struggling Americans, and he is blaming Republicans for blocking the bill.

But Barack Obama’s claim that Republicans are holding up the bill because they would rather see the American people struggling than hand him a victory before the election is not only misleading, it is an outright lie. The last time I checked the Senate was still under Democrat control and the Democrats have the ability to bring Barack Obama’s jobs bill to the floor any time they please, but are unwilling to do so–so how can Republicans be to blame when the Democrats won’t move the bill forward? They haven’t had a chance to block the bill because there has been no vote scheduled on the bill.

Today Mitch McConnell (a Republican) called the Democrats’ bluff and proposed bringing the bill to the floor for a vote:

Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), speaking on the Senate floor, noted that President Obama has been traveling across the country, calling on Congress to pass his jobs bill “right away.”

“I think we should accommodate the President of the United States on a matter that he has been speaking about frequently over the last few weeks and give him his vote,” McConnell said.

Mitch McConnell proposed doing exactly what the president wanted, so there should be no delay in Barack Obama getting his jobs bill passed now, right? After all, the president has stated over and over again that the Republicans are holding up his jobs bill and now the Republicans have acquiesced to the president’s demand.

But the bill did not go to the Senate floor for a vote because none other than Harry Reid (a Democrat) blocked it in defiance of the president’s demand. Harry Reid is claiming that there are other bills up for consideration that are more important than Barack Obama’s jobs bill, but by listening to Barack Obama one wouldn’t think so.

Harry Reid also claims that “right now” is a relative term and not a literal term and as such Barack Obama doesn’t really mean it when he says pass the bill “right now.” Yet the president must not feel this way or he wouldn’t be screaming to anyone who will listen that while he wants the bill passed “right now” it is Republicans who are screwing over the American people by delaying action in this bill.

Harry Reid has done exactly what the president claims the Republicans are doing but I do not hear him out there on the campaign trail blasting Harry Reid for refusing Mitch McConnell’s attempt to pass the jobs bill and that is because Barack Obama does not want the jobs bill passed.

Barack Obama wants the jobs bill to fail so that he can blame it on Republicans and continue his class warfare gibberish because he is more interested in the “victory” of the bill’s failure than he is interested in passing legislation which will really help the American people. Barack Obama’s economic policies have failed the American people and he cannot run on his record so he has thrown down the gauntlet by introducing legislation he knew would fail in an veiled attempt to deflect the blame for the worsening economy from himself to the Republicans–but it is Harry Reid and the Democrats who are now standing in the way of Barack Obama vast left wing conspiracy.

Obama and Reid don’t want a vote on this bill—they don’t even have 51 votes in the Senate much less 60. Obama is lying to the American people at every campaign stop—but then those that attend are too dumb to know this, or still blinded by the light they see around him!!!

You are right, Ron! There are not the votes and Harry OR Nancy would never push anything thru without the votes. I always remember that! The ones that are strategically placed at all of the campaign stops will be his “yes” people…they will believe anything that they are told and will pass along the talking points. I can’t imagine that Obama would still think that people believe anything he says, but there must be some hangers-on that do. And Steve. it really doesn’t matter what the truth is, IF Obama tells his listeners that it is the Republicans fault, who are they going to believe, him or the nasty Republicans? This is such “in your face” lies, I can’t understand anyone listening to him anymore, can you? Guess we just sit back while he goes on another big bus tour, that is what he does best. It will be at our expense.

Other than the people who still attend his campaign stops I don’t think most people believe this man any more.

That is the problem Ron, the people he is talking to believe the crap he is spewing because they don’t pay attention to what is actually happening. But I believe most Americans know that Obama has failed and is lying and will show up at the polls in 2012 to show him.

I said it the other day. Boehner ought to tell the President that although the Republicans don’t believe the Jobs Bill is a good idea, the House is going to pass the bill because we are facing a crisis and yo are the President , so we are going to let you have you way and hope for the best. then smile like a Cheshire cat and watch the Democrats crap their pants.

Nice one Mitch. What’s Harry’s problem? If the bill fails I thought the Dems were going to brand the Republicans as job killers? Wasn’t that supposed to be the plan?
