Gunrunner: Eric Holder subpoenaed by Darrell Issa

October 12, 2011

Claiming that Eric Holder knows more than he is letting on regarding Operation Fast and Furious Darrell Issa has officially subpoenaed Eric Holder seeking more documents related to the deadly scandal.

Top Justice Department officials, including Attorney General Holder, know more about Operation Fast and Furious than they have publicly acknowledged,” the California Republican said in a statement. “The documents this subpoena demands will provide answers to questions that Justice officials have tried to avoid since this investigation began eight months ago. It’s time we know the whole truth”
Yes, it is time that we know the whole truth and Darrell Issa is turning up the heat on Eric Holder.

The subpoena seeks, among other things, all communications regarding the operation from 16 top Justice officials, including Holder, his chief of staff, Gary Grindler, and the head of the department’s criminal division, Lanny Breuer,  as well as correspondence on specific dates to and from the former head of the ATF’s Phoenix field division, William Newell.

It also asks for all documents and communications referring or relating to the murder of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata, including any correspondence outlining the details of Zapata’s mission at the time he was murdered.

While I have focused on the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry the fact is that there are two Americans–in addition to hundreds of Mexican nationals–whose deaths can be attributed to Operation Fast and Furious, the second being the murder of ICE Agent Jaime Zapata. Darrell Issa is now looking for more information of his murder as well as other communications between the “Justice” Department and the White House, and he is seeking documents on what–if any–information on the scandal was shared with the Mexican government.

Eric Holder claims that he has been cooperating with Darrell Issa’s requests all along and promises to fully cooperate with this latest subpoena, but Eric Holder hasn’t been forthcoming with all of the documents requested and I fully expect him to stonewall the release of these new emails and documents as well. Darrell Issa himself said the “Justice” Department was obstructing the investigation at one point so we can only assume that Eric Holder is hiding his involvement in this scandal.

Eric Holder has already been caught lying under oath to the Congress and he cannot afford to continue stonewalling the investigation if he really wants to clear his name, but he has been stonewalling the investigation because he knows the documents will reveal that he played a vital–and deadly–role in this scandal.

Darrell Issa has Eric Holder in the crosshairs as this investigation begins to circle around the Attorney General and it seems highly unlikely that Eric Holder will be able to survive. If he stonewalls the investigation further it will only make him appear to be guilty and the calls for his resignation will grow, but if he does release these documents it will likely prove that he is guilty and the calls for his resignation will still grow. He is damned if he does and he is damned if he doesn’t.

Eric Holder should resign now and await the criminal investigation which will likely follow when this investigation is turned over to a special prosecutor early next year.

Steve, this administration has taken the “lie, deny and make them prove it” attitude from the start. Remember the movie, Top Gun? The pilots were “larger than life”, I think that this administration had that same attitude, but now they are scrambling to save what they have left of control. I think that AG Holder is going down, I don’t care how, I just want him out of there. After that happens, I think he will try and save whatever he has left of his dignity and take down others to make himself look a bit less “guilty”. I have said in the past that I don’t put it past him to point a finger at Obama, what does he have to lose if he has been implicated? I don’t see this Iran issue taking wings like they had hoped, but guess it still could. Dare I say that maybe they need a second crisis to double up on the media coverage? I sure hope the people that voted this mess into office have learned their lesson. Maybe next time that “vetting thing” might be pretty important. That and some people in office that have held JOBS!

I do believe as you that this regime simply felt they were “too big to fail.” Their arrogance is going to bring them down and the sooner the better. I wouldn’t be surprised if when push came to shove Holder would point the finger at Obama–at least I am hoping that’s what happens.

Just a bit ago I saw a video of Judge Napolitano saying that there is no way Holder can avoid this subpoena for more document s and after Issa has the documents, Holder will have to appear once again. The judge said the only other alternative Holder has is to declare executive privilege and that would mean he had briefed Obama. So, it appears that Issa has Holder right where he wants him.

NICE! I was wondering why the article didn’t mention having Holder testify but it sounds like he will have to. I can’t wait, that is going to be great television.

C on F, I think this is a 2 part deal, subpoena for documents and get the goods on AG Holder and then the next will be to pull him in for questioning. Don’t you wish that the Judge would run for an office position? I really like that guy. And Steve, do you think they will televise this? I bet they (administration) will try and do it behind closed doors, the less we see the better for them. When things are “said”, they can spin it with the media, but when people “see” them say it, that is a different matter and they know it. It will make good viewing, maybe as many will want to see this as they did the OJ trials, huh?
