DHS is creating fake Twitter and Facebook profiles in order to track American citizens
Matt over at Conservative Hideout had a post this morning called, “SOPA and the Blogger: Potential for Censorship?” and in this post he questioned whether SOPA would one day he used to censor websites and blogs which were opposed to the government. In case you are not familiar with SOPA: SOPA is an acronym for the Stop Online Piracy Act and its intent is to do just that, crack down on websites which are illegally distributing copyrighted music and movies. And while this is a just cause Matt has a great point.
There is one thing that we know about the federal government and government agencies; once they have a power not only do they not relinquish that power but they expand that power. Is it unreasonable to believe that the scope of SOPA would one day be used to crack down on more than just piracy website, even reaching into political blogs and websites which the government takes offense to?
It may sound paranoid but I don’t think so, especially when you couple it with this story about how the Department of Homeland Security is already creating fake profiles on Twitter and Facebook and searching for certain “sensitive” words and then tracking the people who use these words.
Simply using a word or phrase from the DHS’s ‘watch’ list could mean that spies from the government read your posts, investigate your account, and attempt to identify you from it, according to an online privacy group.
Some of this may be justifiable as they are looking for words which are related to biological weapons, but the story linked above also states that the term “illegal immigrant” is also on the DHS watch list, and this would seem to tie nicely back to that famous right wing extremist terrorist memo that DHS released shortly after Barack Obama came into power.
One thing that we know for sure: the government has been trying to get its greedy little hands into internet regulation for some time and it now appears as if they are going to use the piracy issue to do just that. And they are already involved in deception by creating these false profiles and trying to track people who use words they do not like. Once the government combines these two powers there is no telling how far they will be willing to go, and let’s not forget that the Obama regime has already set up a website urging people to report other people who attacked the president’s policies.
Big Brother is already watching…..

As I said in my comment on Matt’s post, give them an inch and they will take a mile. Their actions prove they can not be trusted with the kind of power they have taken for themselves.

Exactly Larry! They simply cannot be trusted, and this goes for both parties because neither party will ever give up a power granted to them willingly. We just keep giving away more and more of our rights.

Thanks for the link Steve. DHS used to visit my blog a lot. Now, it is said that the use proxies or social network links to do so.

This is definitely some scary stuff Steve. This is what happens when a people allow their government to grow out of control. And the saddest and most frustrating part of this all is the Republicans are advancing this bill. And the Republican are suppose to stand for individual liberty and limited government. What does this leave us with? This kind reinforces my argument against perpetual war. As we continue to wage war, more powers are granted to the executive branch. More individual rights are infringed upon in the name of security and liberty is lost. This is what happened with Rome and the same is happening to us. All you have to do is watch the first three episodes of Star Wars to gain an understanding of how a government using a crisis can destroy a republic, It’s not rocket science.

Yes John, we have lost control of the government and our liberties are being eroded as we sit back and watch. And the Republicans are just as guilty of this as are the Democrats; I don’t know how we are ever going to break the cycle. While watching the first three episodes of Star Wars I also noticed how the crisis mentality we are faced with today was what was used in those movies to implement a totalitarian government.

Hi Steve, on the way to see the grandbaby over Christmas, I took our DVD player. It is a pretty boring 9-10 hour drive. While we usually take what we can find on the candidates to watch or something political, I took the mini-series from, I think the 70’s or 80’s called Centennial. It is based from the 1700’s to the present. It had a part in it when our Government was signing treaties with the Indians for the land and what they would offer and what the Indians should take. They handed out the usual baubles and beads. The problem was, it kept giving them less and less, useless land, land with no water, etc. Then they would drag out a “new” treaty before they even had put the other in force. I stopped and thought about that….and a light went off above my head, as they say! Fast forward to NOW and see what they tell us they are going to do, only to find out what they are really doing (you have to read the bill to find out what is in it), how much we are getting taken away from us. I guess my point is, maybe we should look at what the Government did to a once, very proud group of people. What is going to happen to us, if they continue doing what they are doing to us? I am tired of being told what is the right thing for us to do. I am tired of being told there is only one thing that can be done. We know better than that, have we been that dumbed down that we will let people that WE pay become OUR keepers? What is wrong with that picture? So, that bit of “down time” going on a trip actually opened my eyes a bit more, guess I had been thinking too hard and needed to sit back and open up a little to just absorb other things. By the way, the grandbaby was wonderful, he is almost 2 and if having them doesn’t open our eyes to the future to do something about what is happening now, I do not know what will!!!!

Glad to hear your grandchild is doing well, and yes when we look at our children and our grandchildren ( I don’t have any yet) it should inspire us to keep on fighting for our future. Sometimes a break is needed to put our priorities in order.
