A message to Newt Gingrich: Either stop whining or drop out of the race

January 2, 2012

Is anyone else getting tired of listening to Newt Gingrich whine about the negative campaign being run against him? I know I am getting tired of listening to him complain about being “Romney-Boated,” and I feel others must be as well. Here is my message to Newt Gingrich:

  Dear Mr. Gingrich,

Either stop whining about the negative campaign being run against you or drop out of the race. Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, and Rick Perry have seen you as a threat to their prospects of winning the election and as such they have decided to highlight the differences between you and themselves.

During this process they have given reasons to vote for them while informing the people of reasons why they feel the people should vote against you. During this process they have highlighted some of your past positions, and these are positions which you would rather the American people ignore. But these positions are part of who you are and part of what you believe in, so in my opinion these are legitimate points which are being made. It will be up to the people to decide if they can forgive these conservative transgressions, and they are many.

But you don’t see it that way, so you? You have not come out in defense of these positions, and you have not stated that what is being said about you is false. On the contrary, you have ridiculed those that speak out against you because you cannot defend these positions. You are trying to kill the messenger because you do not like the message and I find it to be unbecoming to say the least.

What Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, and Rick Perry have said about you carries some weight and that is what really bothers you, isn’t it? If you cannot handle the heat then it is time to get out of the fire because the criticism you face from your GOP rivals is nothing compared to the heat you will face if you become the nominee and have to go up against Barack Obama. Your real problem with this is based in the fact that Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, and Rick Perry have more money than you do and they can afford to run these ads while you cannot. Suffice it to say that if you were as well funded as any of these candidates you would be doing the same. But you are not so you feel it is unfair for these candidate to attack you, perhaps you feel the electorate should spread the wealth around in the interest of fairness.

I fully understand that you have the right to defend yourself against these accusations but you are not doing so because you cannot, so instead you try to diffuse the argument by complaining about negative campaigning. I have news for you which you should understand from your days as Speaker of the House; politics is dirty business and nobody is your friend, you are on your own and it is time to stop whining about your rivals and meet them head-on. If you are not up to this task I shudder to think what will happen to you when Barack Obama unleashes $1 billion in negative ads against you.

This is one of those times we disagree …… the attacks were non-stop and he doesn’t have the resources to totally confront the lies ……

I’m in favor of Gingrich; anyone but Mitt, Huntsman, Johnson, Obama, Trump, Ron inept Paul, HIllary, or any other Democrat.

I remember from my last anti-Newt post that you are a Newt guy, we can’t always agree on everything. My guy is Santorum, but I feel that Mitt already hs it sown up before it has even begun.

Unless I missed something, Newt wasn’t complaining that these “attacks” were a pack of lies. He just lamented the fact that they are now public knowledge.

Exactly! He isn’t claiming these attacks are off base, he is simply bemoaning the attacks because it brings these issues to light.

    However —

For Romney to say, “I have nothing to do with it,” is pure, unadulterated bullshit.

For him to hide behind some obscure law is gutless.

He may not have been actively involved, but to suggest he didn’t know what was going to come down is ludicrous. this alone lost my vote to him.

    Where’s Huntsman at?

I’m not Mitt fan either, but he is playing within the rules by using the PACs to do his dirty work. Huntsman is not participating in Iowa, he is basically living here in New Hampshire and plans on making his last stand here.

Bravo, Steve. Well said and very true. It sounds a lot like sour grapes to me.

Thanks Larry, it certainly sounds like sour grapes to me. He doesn’t like being questioned, and has risen in the polls for how he speaks; this sounds quite a bit like Barack Obama to me.

I couldn’t agree more Steve. He needs to step up or step off. No one likes a whiner, especially one who is running for President. We already have one in office now, why would we want another. Straight forward articles like this is the reason why you are our January 2012 blog in the ZONE. Keep up the great work my friend.

Thanks John. You are right, we already have a president who is not willing to take responsibility for his actions and tries to blame others for his failings, and Newt falls into that same category and I find it to be a major turn off.
I didn’t realize I was your January blog in the zone, thanks for the honor!

After a few weeks the puppy stops whining…

I am not a big fan of Newt, either. He is one of the “old school” and we need a change from that. However, he has been useful during the debates in keeping the moderators in check. You have to give him credit for that. All of the candidates have had their moments that were not pleasant, but he has over stepped his bounds on whining, I will give you that. I am still with that 41% of undecided, this is going to be a tough decision. I also feel that it will be Mitt that will be pushed on us and as they say, “you will like it”, whether we do or not.

I do give him credit for being the attack dog during the debates, that was a good role for him and I liked him better there. Mitt is going to be our nominee and there doesn’t seem like there is much we can do about it, he has been chosen for us.

With the 24/7 coverage, I am sick of the whole thing and it is just getting started. What I am worrying about is what are the Dems doing while the press is focused on the primaries?
Don’t think for a moment that they won’t be taking full advantage of this.

Oh they will take advantage of everything that is said about the candidates during this primary. I still remember the debate where Romney said “there are plenty of reasons not to vote for me.” That was a huge gaffe and you can bet that Obama will be using it when the time comes.

In trying to be fair to Gingrich, he is constantly being asked about the attacks, and his slipping polling numbers, ad nauseum. The Media fails to report anything else other than the constant new polls. Why not ask candidates decent questions so we can learn more about them. The ultimate was a reporter asking Mrs Perry what did she think of Santorum’s rising poll numbers.
Having lived in PA during Santorum’s years, he is no Conservative. I understand he was a Democrat who supported Tsongas before he became a Republican. But he is very conservative on Social issues and Defense, which leads one to believe he is a true conservative. As for me, I have no one yet that I would call a pick. Anyone but….. as for Paul… I know many love the guy, but if he runs as a third party we are toast.

If Paul were to get elected on a GOP ticket, we’re TOAST… Wrong Paul is a disaster looking for a place to happen, and his followers are rabid f*cking morons…

At the risk of causing a scene on Steve’s blog, your assertion that those of us who are supporting Ron Paul are rapid *********morons is a bit over the top. I have no problem with you disagreeing with Paul, that is your choice. But to group everyone who supports him into such a group is a bit over the top, don’t you think?

I watched the post-Iowa caucus speeches, and Gingrich seemed petty and whiny. Also, he seemed tired and beat down. Michelle Bachman had seemed whiny in the debates, too–my hubs was completely turned off to her when at one point insisted ” I AM a serious candidate,” very defensively.

Perhaps Newt Gingrich will be following her lead, soon, and ending his campaign.

PS I’m sick of it all, too, Georgia Peach.

Gingrich didn’t come off well in his speech at all in my opinion, I understand he was hit with negatove ads and was upset about it, but what does he think is going to happen if he were to go up against Obama? I don’t think Newt will go anywhere because he has a grudge against Romney now and I think he will stay in it just to make life miserable for Romney.
Bachman made that statement because Newt was sort of talking down to her during the debates and she got sick and tired of it.
