Gunrunner: New documents released about Fast and Furious call into question Eric Holder’s original testimony
Another Friday, another document dump.
When Eric Holder testified back in May of 2011 about Operation Fast and Furious he was asked how long ago he had learned about the deadly scandal, to which he answered, “probably over the last few weeks.” But the documents released last Friday put the truthfulness of his testimony on shaky ground–or should a say, even more shaky ground.
We already had learned that the original letter that the “Justice” Department had sent to Senator Grassley regarding the scandal had to be withdrawn from the Congress because it contained “inaccuracies,” and we also know that Eric Holder has already changed his story once before when it comes to the issue of what he knew and when he knew it, so it comes as no surprise to me that the latest documents which were released might just prove that Eric Holder knew more about Operation Fast and Furious than he cares to admit in public.
Here is some of what can be found in this latest document dump:
The email messages show the former top federal prosecutor in Arizona, Dennis Burke, notifying an aide to Holder via email on Dec. 15, 2010 that agent Brian Terry had been wounded and died. “Tragic,” responds the aide, Monty Wilkinson. “I’ve alerted the AG, the acting Deputy Attorney General…”
Only a few minutes later, Wilkinson emailed again, saying, “Please provide any additional details as they become available to you.”
Burke then delivered another piece of bad news: “The guns found in the desert near the murder [sic] … officer connect back to the investigation we were going to talk about — they were AK-47s purchased at a Phoenix gun store.”
As early as December 15, 2010–on the night Brian Terry was shot–both an aide to Eric Holder and the acting Deputy Attorney General were notified that Brain Terry was murdered and the aide replied in an email that he notified Eric Holder of the incident. So is it possible that once it was learned the weapons which were found at the murder scene were involved in the deadly scandal that neither his aide nor the acting Deputy Attorney General thought this was information Eric Holder needed to know? I suppose it is possible, but highly unlikely, and it requires the willing suspension of disbelief to believe that not one of these people thought that this story was not important enough to notify their boss–Eric Holder–that there was a major scandal brewing within the Obama regime over Operation Fast and Furious. How can it possibly be true that the federal government was involved in a gunrunning scheme and once that scheme turned deadly nobody in the “Justice” Department thought it important enough to notify Eric Holder?
Eric Holder’s defense has been that Operation Fast and Furious was an operation which was carried out by underlings in the “Justice” Department, or rogue agents, and that he knew nothing about it until the story appeared on the news. In other words, he is claiming that he was oblivious to what was happening within his department and his incompetence provides him with plausible deniability in the Fast and Furious scandal.
In light of this new evidence do you think there is still plausible deniability in this case, and do you think there might still be a chance Eric Holder wasn’t informed of Fast and Furious before he said he was? It appears to me that the reason these documents were released so close to the date which Eric Holder is set to testify in front of the Oversight Committee is because he still hopes to make scapegoats out of his aides and the Deputy Attorney General, so it you believe he still has plausible deniability please do not forget that in March of 2011 Barack Obama stated he learned about Fast and Furious on the news and asked Eric Holder about it, and Eric Holder told the president he knew nothing about the scandal beforehand. So according to Barack Obama, Eric Holder told him that he knew nothing about the operation before Eric Holder admitted in testimony that he knew about the scandal. How could Eric Holder have told the president in March of 2011 that he knew nothing about this scandal and still be telling the truth when he told the Congress under oath that he learned about the scandal sometime in April?
This means that either Eric Holder had to have denied knowledge of the scandal to the president before he claims he even knew about the scandal, or Barack Obama made the story up and forgot to tell Eric Holder if we are to believe that Eric Holder’s testimony was true. Either way somebody is lying. With the release of these new documents I believe that it is fairly certain that Eric Holder is lying and he knew about this scandal before he claims he did.
Eric Holder has some explaining to do, and so does Barack Obama for that matter.

It is the cover up that hangs them, The next hearing will be rare indeed. Smoking gun is getting closer. When is dumps on Friday, you know it has to be bad.

I agree, B! The writing is on the wall, it all depends on if they can get the MSM to cover it up real good. It still amazes me that the media refuses to say anything about all the mess the administration is involved in. I can safely say, I will NEVER take their word for anything in the future as being true, that is how much I distrust them. Pretty bad when that happens, isn’t it?

I agree with both you and Lou, it is the coverup which will do them in on this issue. As bad as the scandal is alone, coupled with this coverup and the media’s willingness to ignore this story, this will be their ultimate undoing.
It is sad that we cannot trust anything this administration tells us, but it is their own actions which have gotten us to this point.

We may but pray. And keep stirring the ashes.

Like everything else that happens in this administration, Holder and his band of
rodents will most likely skate on the whole scandal. If there were to be a satisfactory outcome I believe it would have already happened. One case in point, the New Black Panther Party’s voter intimidation case. They end result, they are prohibited from going near polling places until October of 2012.
I find hard to have faith in a fair and practical solutions when dealing with malignant corruption as in the case of this present administration. The opposition in my opinion is ineffective and hesitant in their feeble attempts at resolving these issues.
The only hope of resolution and justice for these egregious transgressions are the American people. Moaning and wailing will never accomplish anything. Just my opinion….WM

You are probably right and this administration is going to get away with this, and they will be helped by the media not putting the pressure on them to come clean. However, I still haven’t given up all hope that we will get to the bottom of this.

Their original strategy has been to lie, and keep lying. How long they are willing to keep it up remains to be seen.

They will keep it up as long as they can, until after the election if possible.

I don’t know if we can depend on documents supplied by the JD themselves. After all, half of them are blacked out. I still think Issa as something and he’s going to spring it, maybe in the fall.

I hope that you are right about that!

It is amazing how many of us are posting about this, but the silence from the LSM is deafening. Good post, good job.

Thank you! The lengths that the media will go to in order to protect Obama is astounding. We can rest assured that if this were Bush and Gonzalez caught in this scandal it would be receiving 24-7 news coverage, is it any wonder the media has lost all credibility?
