If right-wing politics are to blame for Trayvon Martin’s death, who is to blame for Brian Terry’s death?

March 31, 2012

Despite the fact that we don’t know all the details behind Trayvon Martin’s killing, and despite the fact that there is still in ongoing investigation into the case, several Democrats have already made their minds up about what happened that night. Either Trayvon Martin was needlessly gun downed that night by an out of control George Zimmerman, or Zimmerman was acting in self-defense after being attacked by Martin.

The truth is, we simply do not know at this point. Yet here we have people in the federal government, who should know better, weighing in on a tragic incident without having a clue what really happened and they are doing it for purely political reasons. Need proof? We need look no further than the DNC’s attempt at using the killing to register voters.

After Nadal Hassan started shouting “Allah Akbar” and assassinated 13 brave heroes at Fort Hood the president went on national television and warned the American people not to “jump to conclusions” because not all the facts were in. Yet, here is Al Sharpton calling for an increase in civil disobedience if George Zimmerman is not arrested. Is he not jumping to conclusions? And what about Nancy Pelosi, who stated if the investigation didn’t turn out the way she thought it should (with the arrest of Zimmerman) than perhaps the Congress should get involved because there are “other options” that could be considered? Is she not jumping to conclusions? And need I mention the New Black Panthers, who have decided to take the law into their own hands by offering a bounty for the capture of Zimmerman? Where is the president and why isn’t he telling these people not to jump to conclusions? Why is he telling the rest of us it was time to search our souls when we aren’t the ones involved in this case?

But of course the AFL-CIO had to get involved in this as well; yesterday the Executive Vice-President of the AFL-CIO, Arlene Holt Baker, predictably blamed conservative right-wing politics for the death of Trayvon Martin–namely Florida’s “stand your ground” bill. You know, the bill that actually allows a person to defend himself if he feels his life is in jeopardy? That is considered an extreme right-wing position for a person to take according to the AFL-CIO, and not an issue of liberty guaranteed in the constitution. Again, we still don’t know if this was an issue of self-defense but the AFL-CIO has already jumped to a conclusion.

But let me put aside my disagreement with Arlene Baker’s statement and grant her her point. For the sake of this post, conservative right-wing politics are directly responsible for the needless killing of an innocent man in Trayvon Martin.

Whose policies are then responsible for the deaths of Brian Terry and Jaime Zapata–two American heroes killed with weapons that were provided to the criminals by the federal government as part of Operation Fast and Furious? And whose policies are responsible for an estimated 300 plus murdered Mexican nationals at the hands of criminals who also purchased these weapons from the United States during Operation Fast and Furious?

That is an easy one to answer; liberal, left-wing, anti-gun Democrats–namely Eric Holder and possibly even Barack Obama himself. Yet the AFL-CIO has been silent on Operation Fast and Furious and I don’t expect them to be making a statement anytime soon. And yet we are supposed to believe this is not being politicized by the AFL-CIO because, after all, it is only the Republicans who have tried to turn this into a political issue?

Maybe the whole truth will come out in this case, but that is by no means guaranteed. Sharpton, Jackson, and even Obama are pouring gasoline on this fire and all should be condemned. As for the Stand Your Ground law, I’m sure in some cases it will lead to needless deaths. But having said that some lives will be saved by this law and had Zimmerman not had the gun, perhaps he would have been killed. Point is the law is the law and the rest is simply speculation. I do support the law, because in states that don’t have it most often its the criminals who have the upper hand over the law-abiding citizens who are put at a disadvantage and have the odds stacked against them in life and death situations.

The bottom line here is that liberals will always stack the deck in favor of the poor down-trodden person who is forced into a life of crime because of past discrimination and lack of opportunity given him by the evil white man who only wants to keep him down and away from the polls—-that my friend is the real problem here.

OR you can live in Illinois and not be able to carry. I don’t see that changing as long as there is Democratic control over in Springfield. Sharpton and Jackson love something like this to happen so they can dust themselves off and come out and BE somebody. It is pretty sad when it is such as this that they take advantage of.

It is unbelievable that there are pockets in this country where it is illegal for a person to practice their constitutionally protected right, but you are right, that isn’t going to change in Illinois until the Democrats are voted out.
Sharpton and Jackson spend their days waiting and hoping that something like this will happen so they can get in the news and that is a sad statement about them.

Steve, here in Illinois since we cannot conceal carry, we are at the mercy of those that do, illegally. Growing up where I did, I never go into a building without noting where the exits are and sit with my back to a wall whenever possible so I can see the entrance. All you have to do is look at the Chicago area (Bobby Rush’s area, aka The Hoodie on the Senate Floor), there are nightly shootings, I doubt there would be the amount there is IF they knew someone was packing.

Agreed Lou, the criminals know that the law abiding people are helpless because of the laws and they take advantage of it. Politicians know the facts, and the fact is that crime stats show us that in areas which have concealed carry crime is down compared to places which have strict gun laws. So if they know the facts why do they still push gun control? Because it is about disarming the people, not simply controlling the guns. That is the only conclusion I can come up with.

I couldn’t agree more Ron. I fear that this is going to get very ugly before it is over and Sharpton and Jackson will be partly responsible for what happens because they are insighting it.
Naturally with a “stand your ground” law there will be instances where someone takes it too far, and we may learn this is one of those cases, but more often than not the law protects those law abiding citizens who only wish to protect themselves and their families.

For the easily offended the following is sarcasm, not satire: Only in a racist country like the USA would almost half a million men die so that a black man from another country could be elected president 143 years later. Only in a racist country like ours could black men, masquerading as community organizers travel about the land inciting and inflaming hatred between the races and write off those trips as business expenses for their non-profits while living a life of luxury off the fruits of the government and their supporters. Only in a racist country like this could black men intimidate voters at their polling places and not be prosecuted by our black Attorney General. Who are the racists?

You have got that right WIlliam, the left needs a perpetually victimized class in order to keep their power. That is why all their policies are designed to keep the people down while allowing them to claim they are trying to lift the people up.

Left has been looking for a cause clebre` since Obama took office. Obviously Terry and Zapata didn’t fit their needs. The Tucson shooting they thought was what they were looking for; but it wasn’t. Now witth Treyvon they not only have a gun killing but possibly racism. They want it to be murder and they want it to be for racism. They have no shame if it fit their script.

And all of it just in time for summer! I guess we know what is on their agenda, don’t we? This includes the Congressional Black Caucus getting their airtime on tv. Of course it is “racial”.

Yes, this will be pushed through the Summer and if not this particular issue the Dems will find another one they can exploit to help Obama get reelected.

He lives for times like these, in fact he probably wakes up everyday hoping a tragedy like this will occur so he can use it.

There you go again, using logic and applying the standards of the left to what they do. You should know by now, they don’t allow that. They have two sets of rules, one for us and one for them, and they aren’t remotely the same.

There’s nothing wrong with a stand your ground law, but we all have to take responsibility for our actions, don’t we? Traditionally, in a case like this, Zimmerman would have been charged with a crime and held to account for his actions in a court of law. If he shot Martin in self defense, forensic evidence would support him, and he’d be acquitted. “Stand your ground” laws were only meant to relieve people of the duty to flee in the face of danger.

The way the Florida statute is written, though, at least according to the accounts being provided, the police cannot arrest Zimmerman if he simply claims he felt threatened.

In addition, there appears to be a lot of confusion about when stand your ground applies – if Zimmerman was following Martin, it was actually Martin who was protected by stand your ground if he decided to turn and confront his stalker. If, though, Martin turned to confront Zimmerman, and Zimmerman retreated, was it then Zimmerman protected by stand your ground?

Look at it this way – if I confront a burglar in my house and chase him out, can he turn around once he leaves my property and “stand his ground?”

Anyway, if the authorities had handled this responsibly and with some common sense, they wouldn’t have created the current mess we find ourselves in, with both sides politicizing it, the Jackson/Sharpton road show threatening to go into full bloom, and Trayvon Martin’s parents still bereaved.

Take good care and may God bless us all!

Agreed TGY, even with a stand your ground law there is responsibility that comes with that law. The fact is that we still don’t know if this was an act of self defense or not and if Zimmerman’s life was not at risk than he should be punished for his actions. My problem is with the politicalization of this story while all the facts are not known and I fear that it is going to lead to even more violence.
