Gunrunner: John Boehner sends Eric Holder a letter demanding answers on Fast and Furious

May 20, 2012

John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy, and Darrell Issa have sent a letter to Eric Holder demanding answers to the questions of who planned the deadly Fast and Furious operation and did the Department of Injustice intentionally mislead the Congress while under oath?

“[T]wo key questions remain unanswered: first, who on your leadership team was informed of the reckless tactics used in Fast & Furious prior to Agent Terry’s murder; and, second, did your leadership team mislead or misinform Congress in response to a Congressional subpoena?” they asked Holder.

Eric Holder has not fully cooperated with the investigation, if he has not answered the questions after a year of investigation he is not going to answer the questions now. The time for talk is over, the time for action is now! We have seen this before, Darrell Issa and Charles Grassley threaten Eric Holder with Contempt of Congress but back down when Eric Holder misses the stated deadline in order to give him one more chance to comply willingly. We have seen how well that has worked so it won’t be surprising if Eric Holder doesn’t take this latest threat seriously. What good does it do to draw a line in the sand if you are immediately going to erase that line and draw a new one further down on the beach?

There may be reason for hope this time however as, if I am not mistaken, this is the first time that the House Speaker has actually engaged Eric Holder directly. This could be a sign that the impending Contempt charge is drawing closer to becoming a reality. Perhaps this is the final formality before the House moves forward and finally charges Eric Holder with Contempt of Congress.

At least I hope so, but I am not holding my breath because we have heard these threats before and they haven’t come to fruition. I am growing more and more impatient with this process so forgive me if I sound a little skeptical but it is time to either put up or shut up, it is time for the House Republicans to put their money where their mouths are and charge Eric Holder with Contempt in the near future or stop wasting our time with an issue they don’t have the courage to pursue to the bitter end.

This has gone on way too long, imo. I hope you are right about it being the final formallity; nut I’m not sure Boehner has the back bone to charge Holder with contempt.

All I have is hope at this time, but I am losing that as time goes on. This should have been a done deal by now, but maybe Issa and Boehner are making sure they don’t miss anything that could end up hurting the case.

Jim, if one can call what Eric Holder is doing “cooperating”, then I guess he has with very limited redacted papers. I just can’t see Boehner doing much to move things along, I have little faith in this going much further, but guess they are showing a bit of muscle at this time. However, it is a little too late, they should have hit hard to begin with and not given any room to wiggle. It is like being a landlord, if you show a soft side, it is very easy to be taken advantage of, and after all aren’t we the “landlords” of this government? Maybe we should take a stronger stand, is it too late? When you have issues with your renters, you evict them, maybe it is time to do the same to the ones in office.

I also have little hope that this is going to go any further and it is a shame because this could be the biggest scandal in US history. It will be up to us to rid ourselves of these criminals.

It is so telling that when Bush fired some justice dept lawyhers which he had every right to, the left went nuts. The house asks some legit questions of the justice department and the justice dept tells them to get screwed.

Have no doubt that Holder will piss on Boner and tell him it’s raining.

I just don’t have any faith in Boehner either, this should have already happened and the rumors are that Boehner is the one who has delayed any action.

My comment is to suggest termination from his job. With extreme prejudice.
