As goes Wisconsin, so goes the nation Part III: Scott Walker leads by 8 points

May 24, 2012

While the effort to recall Scott Walker in Wisconsin is most directly a state issue there are possible ramifications which could indirectly affect the whole nation in November. I am of the belief that if Scott Walker loses in the recall election for making the changes which actually turned his state around it will be a signal to the nation that the people simply are not ready to accept the tough decisions which must be made if we are to avoid a total collapse of the economy, and I expect this to carry over into the election in November.

If Scott Walker fends off this recall bid it will send a signal to Washington that the people are finally getting serious about stopping the out of control spending the government has used for so long to bribe many people for their votes, and this will also carry over into November. Apparently I am not alone in my thinking as the Obama campaign is now focusing on the recall effort as well.

With the special election just a couple of weeks away the early signs are encouraging. Despite heavy union spending Scott Walker is pulling away from his Democrat opponent and in the latest poll he leads by a margin of 50%-42%. But the good news doesn’t stop there:

The Reason-Rupe poll finds voters overwhelmingly support many of the key changes Gov. Walker and the legislature implemented on public sector pensions and health care last year. Reason-Rupe finds 72 percent favor the change requiring public sector workers to increase their pension contributions from less than 1 percent to 6 percent of their salaries. And 71 percent favor making government employees pay 12 percent of their own health care premiums instead of the previous 6 percent.

Taxpayers actually wish state lawmakers had cast an even larger net with their reforms. Police and firefighters were exempted from the pension and health care adjustments but 57 percent of taxpayers say they should not have been.

The poll shows widespread support for Scott Walker’s reforms, while a big concern is a belief that these reforms didn’t go far enough. Scott Walker did something that not many politicians have the courage to do; he put his political future in jeopardy to do what he felt was right and it has paid off for the state at the possible cost of his job.

If Scott Walker pays the ultimate price for his courage how many politicians in the future will be willing to follow his lead at the expense of becoming unemployed? Not too many I would guess, but if he wins it may just be the spark that is needed to encourage more politicians to follow his lead and begin the task of setting America on a fiscally responsible path.

This is a bellweather election; as goes Wisconsin, so goes the nation.

I tend to agree with most of your post Steve. It does appear that Scott Walker is pulling away in the upcoming recall election. My daughter lives in Madison and is keeping me posted—she is almost as conservative as me but no quite, since I’m to the right of Attila the Hun! A dye-in-the-wool no sh*t southern fire-eater. Like you I too, think that Wisconsin could easily be a great indicator of what’s to come in the general this fall. Let’s hope that’s the case.

LOL Ron! This is great news because it gives us a window into the views of the American people on this issue.I am routing hard for Walker and I hope he can pull it off.

Obummer has picked up on the turn about in Wi as he launches his latest lie campaign about his austerity being second only to Ike’s. As of the latest polls the nation is split on who is the better man to handle the economy and turn around our mnosterous debt, hard to believe, huh?

It sure is! You would think that Obama’e record would stand on it own and people would already realize we can’t afford another four years of this.

I worry about the early voting with all those absentee ballots. Call me paranoid, but hope they are not playing it this way so the GOP does not feal the urgency to go out and vote thinking it is in the bag, One of Obama;s minions was talking about how they were on the ground getting out the votes. They may not be doing ads, but running it under the radar.

The dems are crooked as a hump-backed snake and I would put little past them or the Chicago gang in Washington. I’m old enough to remember how Kennedy stole the election from Nixon because of the high-jinks in Chicago in the election of 1960. Really dating myself!

Me too gramps. My mother dispised Joe Kennedy and by extension JFK . She made sure my brother and I knew how the election was stolen. When floppy ears wins this one there may be no future elections to steal.

Gunker’s point on absebtee ballots. It’s an area prone to fraud. I hope the RNC is throwing some help to Walker. It will be a big boost to conservatives if Walker wins.

Axelrod said they had hundreds of lawyers on the ground to “insure” fair balloting. That did it for me.

I wonder how many absentee ballots were sent to the many prisons around the state or to the thousands of graveyards. If these guys can’t buy the votes they will dig deep for them—get my drift!

The way Liberals spin it, Walker destroyed Wisconsin and the economy. They’ve dumped a ton of cash into the state and yet they’re behind.

    8 points is significant.

Liberals are full of crap again.

The reality in Wisconsin doesn’t quite match the spin put on by the libs and the unions and it looks like the people are looking at the reality and not listening to the rhetoric, that is a great sign.

I am looking forward to the results of the Wisconsin election. I think you are right, in that it could tell the tale of how the elections will go in November.

It is getting closer Larry and I can’t wait to see how this plays out, I think it is going to tell us which direction we are going to move towards in November.

Ever the pragmatist, I believe that even a Walker win will not overshadow the new American Exceptionalism, that is that a majority of Americans are exceptionally stupid. How else could a destroyer like Obama be riding high in the polls instead of being regarded as the disgrace that he is. Not unlike Reid, Pelosi, Frank, Boxer. Schumer, dead Kennedy, et al, all unbeatable as they continue on their nihilistic quest to destroy our nation fueled by self interest and unbridled greed.

Are they really the stupid ones, or are they the smart ones? After all, they are the ones getting all the free stuff while we are the ones working to provide for them.
