Gunrunner: Eric Holder forced to retract statement about George Bush’s involvement in Fast and Furious

June 21, 2012

Now that the mainstream media has been dragged kicking and screaming into covering the Fast and Furious debacle against their will we can expect two things: One; the media will try to paint this as a witch hunt being conducted by fringe elements of the extreme right wing during an election year because Eric Holder and Barack Obama are black, and two; the media will also try to pin the blame for Operation Fast and Furious on their favorite target–George W Bush.

I do not intend to spend much time on the first issue because frankly the left has worn out the race card over the last three years with baseless accusations, I no longer feel the need to defend myself or the Republicans on this issue other than to state that if the left puts a higher priority on saving the political life of Eric Holder than they do about getting to the bottom of a program which ended the lives of countless Mexicans they are the ones who are the real racists.

But I do believe the blame George W Bush defense needs to be addressed even though I already debunked it here last November because there are many people who are now following this story  who weren’t before and the Bush did it too defense is probably a new story to those people, so here we go.

Many people probably heard about this possible link between George W Bush and Operation Fast and Furious for the first time last week when Eric Holder made a last ditch effort to stave off contempt charges when he said the following:

If you want to talk about Fast and Furious, I’m the Attorney General that put an end to the misguided tactics that were used in Fast and Furious. An Attorney General who I suppose you would hold in higher regard was briefed on these kinds of tactics in an operation called Wide Receiver and did nothing to stop them – nothing. Three hundred guns, at least, walked in that instance.

This was a claim which Jay Carney ran with today. Although he couldn’t remember Brian Terry’s name he did remember that it was his mission to pin the blame of George W Bush when he stated:

We absolutely agree with the need to find out the truth about why Fast & Furious happened, why the tactic, again, was employed in the previous administration, in different operations and was stopped by this Attorney General, why it came about

Under George W Bush the federal government was involved in a gun tracking effort called Operation Wide Receiver. Are there some similarities between Fast and Furious and Wide Receiver? Yes, but there are a couple of differences and they are big ones.

First and foremost, the guns sold under Wide Receiver actually had tracking devices on them whereas the weapons sold during Fast and Furious did not. The Bush administration was looking to trace the guns and interdict them whereas the Obama regime was purposely letting the guns walk into Mexico to prove the 90% lie. And second; despite Jay Carney’s claim that it was Eric Holder who halted this program, Operation Wide Receiver was stopped by the Bush administration once it was learned some of the weapons were lost.

Operation Wide Receiver and Operation Fast and Furious were two separate programs despite Eric Holder’s attempt to combine the two in order to drag George W Bush into the scandal.

But while the media and the Democrats are now trying to pin Operation Fast and Furious on the previous administration the grounds in which this is based is falling apart around them as earlier today Eric Holder retracted his statement about the Bush administration allowing 300 guns to walk into Mexico because it simply is not true.

This isn’t the first time Eric Holder has had to send a letter to the Oversight Committee to amend his sworn testimony and yet the media and the Democrats (but I repeat myself) are ignoring his retraction and running with the Bush did it too story while ignoring the fact that Eric Holder once again lied under oath.

  And I wouldn’t expect anything less…..

“Wide Receiver” was a small, local, contained operation based in Tucson AZ. Guns Were TRACKED, criminal cartel members were ARRESTED. ATF stopped the operation when they realized the guns had gotten out of sight.
“Fast and Furious” was conducted in several cities, guns were NEVER tracked and never INTENDED to be tracked or controlled. F&F was planned as a maneuver to get American guns into the news as the cause of tragic murders and crimes in Mexico, thus to force American citizens through guilt to relinquish more and more of our GOD-GIVEN SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS TO SELF-PROTECTION AGAINST GOVERNMENT TYRANNY.
I thank God for the eagle-eyes at SipseySreetIrregulars.com, who first broke this story and forced it into the “mainstream media.”

There are clear differences between the two cases which the Democrats are going to ignore. They may have been able to get away with it years ago, but with the internet and sites like Sipsey they can no longer get away with it.

Not True – Wide Receiver was the rollout of a larger plan that lasted more than two years after the PILOTprogram ran in Arizon in 2005. The Wide Receiver plan was inmpleneted in 10 major cities in 5 states.

So, at Holder’s request Barack Obama sealed the only documents which prove both Holder’s innocence and Bush’s guilt and he did this to protect Holder and put the blame on Bush?

It was nice finally to see Carney spin in the wind at his presser. CBS picked up the story as well as pbs, and looks like they might stay on it.

Republicans and conservatives always have to fight on two fronts: The Democrats and the media. The alternative news sources are doing a good job pf getting the truth out, but unfortunately don’t reach the same people.

You know why there was a heat wave in the North East today? Because of George Bush! Why did he Russians ship helicopters back to Syria…… Take your pick! I’m really sick of 4 years of blaming things on W. Not that I really had much confidence in his last term but isn’t it getting a bit weak?

If the ONE isn’t elected, will Romney blame the ONE? I doubt it. Although I’ll have to hold my nose to vote for Romney and I will, I believe he’s a man, not a sniveling little child! He will accept the responsibility of his actions. This is the primary difference between the Leftists in our country and the Patriots!

The blame Bush defense is really getting old and I think most people are tired of hearing it now that Obama has a record of his own. Of course, he doesn’t want people to look at his dismal record and so he creates these diversions, but people see through this now and they want results not excuses.

Thank you again for keeping this issue alive. And yes, we already know George Bush is responsible for everything bad that has ever happened since the begining of time.
But can you think of any way, or any thing that could have been done that would have gotten the MSM to do their job?

You are welcome! If the MSM had dome their job this would have already taken Holder down. Remember the outrage over Gonzalez for firing the attorney’s? The media took him down and this is many, many more times worse than that and the media had to be dragged into covering the story. Of course now that they are covering it they will spin it into Holder’s favor.

And I have been personally challenged to prove that Barack Obama is still blaming George W. Bush for his woes. The posts I have written do not contain the proof that he is guilty of blaming everyone but himself, or so I have been told. I don’t know how much more proof we need to provide.

There is a claim that Wide Receiver used miniaturized GPS devices to track the guns. That is Hollywood style BS that only exists in shows like 24 or movies like Mission Impossible, et al.

In order for a GPS device to be traceable over great distance would require bi-directional satellite communications. There is no such thing as a device that is small enough to hide inside of a gun that can have enough power or a large enough antenna to manage bi-directional communications with satellites, Also this shows that the liars do not understand how GPS satellite networks work. GPS Satellites are unidirectional in their GPS signal (one way). The way GPS Tracking works on Cell phones is that the Cell Phone receives the GPS transmissions from multiple (minimum 3) GPS satellites and uses an algorithm based on Einstein’s theory of Relativity (E=MC2) to triangulate based on overlapping spheres and time stamps. The cell phone then sends the return data through the cellular network, 3G or 4G or via a (Wi-Fi) wireless network if it is connected to a wireless access point, which typically requires that a person enter a password in order to do so.

In order to track the guns for about 3 to 8 hours you would need a device about the size of your typical smart phone. If you wanted to track them for a period of about a week you would have to have a battery about the size of the typical motorcycle battery. I have yet to see a gun where you can hide that big of a battery. There is also another big problem with this lie. Lots of metal interferes with the GPS and the Cellular signals. If you were to hide a device in a case of guns, it is extremely likely that you would never get any signal because the guns would be absorbing the signal. You can experience this yourself when you drive under large overpasses and your cell phone signal becomes static or drops all together.

The only communications mediums that could handle return traffic is Cellular Networks, extremely unreliable at distances more than a few miles and requires a significant battery to operate for more than a few hours or a Wi-Fi network, if it is within an unobstructed line of site to a transceiver of 300 meters and typically requires that a person enter a password in order to do so. Things like Mountains, Buildings, Rain, etc. also cause any signal range to decrease significantly since all of the signals are of a type known as Line of Sight (They explain this really well in the movie Independence day)

And now the “Executive Privilege” thing. Why would Ovomit invoke that if it wasn’t ass deep in it? Not to mention, and this just burns hotter in my mind, if you have an AK to cover yourself in the field, why would you leave it at the scene? Would you not maybe need it again further down the road? Was Brian Terry “hit” and the “evidence” planted?

Operation Wide Receiver and Operation Fast and Furious were BOTH part of an umbrella program known as Project Gunrunner (created under the Bush Administration). Though Bush began the program, Obama’s DOJ was the first to prosecute cases related to Wide Receiver.

In addition to prosecuting Mexican drug cartel members, the Obama Administration looked to expand the program in order to catch higher-level targets. In doing so, he moved too quickly, employed strategies that ATF operatives weren’t trained for, and lost tracks of more and more guns.

While these programs were responsible for countless tragedies in the US and Mexico, their impact was felt no greater than on the night of December 14, 2010. Brian Terry was killed by a Fast and Furious AK-47.

All this is true. All this you will not contest. Yet you choose to go a step further by:

    1) Overestimating the carefulness of George W. Bush’s operation and claiming “tracking devices” were used to track guns. Guns were lost during Wide Receiver and were no doubt used to kill innocent Mexicans and possibly Americans.

    2) Claiming that Barack Obama continued Project Gunrunner in an effort to manipulate social statistics pertaining to gun murders. Obama was the first to prosecute Wide Receiver criminals. He was clearly trying to continue a program that he viewed as successful.

    3) Assuming all Democrats and Liberals will resort to a “Bush did it too…” defense. Every president from here on out should be held to a higher standard than George W. Bush. He was an epic failure. Claiming “Bush did it too” is not an acceptable excuse for anything. I accept all of Barack Obama’s failures as partly my own, and I will hold him accountable in November. I blame him for boggling Fast and Furious, and I can’t understand why he continues to stand by Eric Holder.

Yes guns were lost during Wide Receiver and once they were lost the program was shut down. But Fast and Furious was never designed to track the weapons, we didn’t have jurisdiction in Mexico to go after them.
I wrote a post before the public ever heard about Fast and Furious about how Obama was going to use gun violence at the Mexican border as a crisis to implement gun control, and then I wrote a post once it was learned the 90% statistic was a lie.Shortly after those two posts we learned about Fast and Furious and, as I have documented in the roughly 150 I have done on Fast and Furious, it all appears geared to provinf that 90% lie in order to create a crisis at the border.
The one question nobody can answer is this; why did Obama use executive privilege on the only documents which would have proven Holder was not guilty while proving Bush was guilty? It simply does not make sense.

I agree. Obama should not have exercised executive privilege in this case. I agree. There are a lot of questions to be answered. However, you haven’t convinced me–not in the least–that Barack Obama is manipulating gun stats. In fact that’s where you completely lose me. It is a huge leap of faith to get on board with that point-of-view, and one that is unnecessary for you to take as well.

        @Steve,

Once again, I agree with you. But you and I both disagree on what Obama’s motives were in carrying out Fast and Furious. And while you seem to believe Obama was trying to “cook the books,” I believe he was trying to capitalize on a previously successful mission. Your argument, though, is poorly supported. You present a motive without explaining it.

It’s simple. Obama prosecuted criminals in Wide Receiver and tried for bigger bucks in Fast and Furious. It wasn’t an unpopular or controversial mission at its onset. It’s also not surprising that Obama would aim higher, because that’s his foreign policy hallmark. He’s an aggressive, ambitious hawk. He is the guy who got bin Laden.

Suggesting Obama carried out FandF to support the 90% lie is an NRA conspiracy theory. The Obama administration and gun advocates everywhere don’t need more evidence to prove that lax gun policies in Red States support gun trafficking internationally and intranationally. It just so happens there are enough gun advocates in America to defy heaps and heaps of evidence proving that American gun policies are too loose. Do you think 17% isn’t a huge number as well? For every six gun deaths in Mexico, one is courtesy of a gun trafficked from the US.

Mexico didn’t know about Fast and Furious so the US didn’t have jurisdicition to go after the weapons once they slipped into Mexico. If tracking the weapons was a goal of Fast and Furious the feds would have made sure Mexico knew what was going on. The guns were never going to be recovered until they were found at a crime scene, and that is exactly what happened.

They were supposed to be sold and tracked to high-level targets; they weren’t. It’s widely accepted that Fast and Furious was boggled under Obama’s watch. You’re hearing this from a far-left liberal. Why is that not enough for you? Why do you have to tie this issue to your gun rights? You’re a rational, reasonable person. Nobody takes away the guns of rational, reasonable people. Nobody is big enough to take down the NRA. I believe in your right to own a gun, too.

I just don’t understand what exactly are you trying to protect by accusing the Obama Administration of making up gun statistics. Stats can be manipulated no matter what they say. FOXNews proved that when they debunked the 90% lie. It seems wholly unreasonable that Obama would go through all this trouble to get a fake number. From where he’s sitting, he can make up all the bullshit he wants. It’s inherent to his position in government.
