The New Hampshire legislature overrides Governor Lynch’s veto and passes voter ID law

June 27, 2012

Today is what is known as “Veto Day” in New Hampshire: This is the last full day the legislature is in session in New Hampshire and it is a day which is basically dedicated to trying to override all bills which were vetoed during the session by the governor. With the Republicans having taken over both the State House and the State Senate in 2010 this was a much busier “veto day” than any in recent history as the legislature took up 15 veto override votes. The legislature overturned 7 vetoes and upheld 6.

Among the vetoes overturned were a bill banning partial birth abortions and a school choice bill, but the one bill which would be of greater national concern was the voter ID bill. Governor Lynch vetoed the voter ID bill and today the state legislature voted to override the veto and voters will now be required to show ID at the polls starting this November.

And the override vote wasn’t all that close; the Senate voted to override the veto by a margin of 18-5 and the House by a margin of 231-112. (Yes New Hampshire does have a huge legislative body compared to the population but it helps to keep the legislators close to the people, and it must be remembered that these legislators are part time and only receive a few hundred dollars in salary to compensate them for their time away from their real jobs.)

It will be interesting to see the reactions of both Barack Obama and Eric Holder to this news for we have already seen the hostility which these two men can show towards states which pass legislation they disagree with and I fully expect Barack Obama and Eric Holder to condemn the state and threaten to withhold federal money while suing the state just for good measure.

But that is okay, we are tough up here…bring it on!

Congratulations! I should move there, we have “issues” here in Illinois that no matter how we vote, it stays the same, Democratic control. Of course you will suffer the repercussions from this administration.

We will make room for you here if you ever decide to come! This was a pretty good day in New Hampshire and it will be iteresting to see what happens here moving forward both on the national level and at the state level in November.

I am a Fall and Winter person, so imagine I would very much like New Hampshire! Well, that AND your Republican controlled House and Senate!

Hopefully we will hold onto both houses and we have two great conservatives running to replace Governor Lynch. Our governor is not running for reelection, and while he was more of a moderate the Democrat who is most likely going to win the primary is a moonbat so hopefully either Republican candidate can beat her.

Thanks, Jim! Hopefully one day enough of us will be able to turn the tides here.

I hope so too Lou, it may be a long fight but if we get the message out there anything is possible.

Great news. Too bad it had to come to this and realizing that fellow Americans think ensuring a fair, fraud-free election is a bad idea. This should be one of those unanimous things we actually all can agree on.

You would think so but the left has turned it into a racial issue. They are once again trying to divide Americans into different groups in order to play us against each other.
