Gunrunner: Darrell Issa set to release the first of three Congressional reports on Fast and Furious
Darrell Issa is preparing the release the first of three reports on the deadly scandal known as Operation Fast and Furious shortly. This report will name five people in the Department of Injustice’s ATF who are directly responsible for the operation. According to this story they are:
- William Newell, the special agent in charge of the phoenix field division
- William McMahon, Newell’s boss who was ATF’s deputy assistant director for field operations
- Mark Chait, McMahon’s boss who was ATF’s assistant director for field operations
- William Hoover, ATF’s former deputy director
- Kenneth Melson, former acting ATF director
Notably missing from this list is Eric Holder and when I read the story my first thought was that the Republicans caved once again because they don’t have the courage to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion, but as I thought about it I realized it was something else the Republicans were lacking if they were to implicate the beleaguered Attorney General. And that something is the documents which in all likelihood tie Eric Holder to the scandal. (And possibly even Barack Obama, remember Bill Newell was leaking Fast and Furious information to a top White House advisor.)
When Darrell Issa started getting very close to implicating Eric Holder in the scandal the attorney general ran to Barack Obama and asked him to seal the documents he had been asking for for well over a year. Barack Obama naturally obliged his corrupt attorney general by declaring executive privilege and sealing the documents, thusly ending any chance the American people would learn the truth about what Eric Holder (and Barack Obama) knew and when he knew it.
The most open and honest administration in history effectively shut down an investigation into one of the biggest scandals in American history, there really wasn’t any more that Darrell Issa could so at this point–the coverup was complete.
Now that Darrell Issa cannot get access to the documents which I believe show Eric Holder authorized Fast and Furious he had to settle for the next best thing and that will be covered in his second report which will be coming out shortly after the first report, and that is showing the American people exactly how incompetent Eric Holder and his administration is:
devastating failure of supervision and leadership by officials at Justice Department headquarters, principally within the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, and within the Criminal Division
A very small consolation prize for a scandal of this magnitude and we can expect nothing to come from this as Barack Obama stands by his man.
The third report could be very interesting indeed because it will detail Eric Holder’s obstruction of justice, but there is one small problem. Darrell Issa said this report will be released AFTER Eric Holder’s Department of Injustice finally turns over the documents Darrell Issa has been seeking. In other words, this third report is never going to be released.
For all intents and purposes this investigation appears to be over and Eric Holder is going to get away with it. A sad day for truth and justice in America and it was all brought on by the man who promised he would have the most open, honest, and transparent administration in the history of the country.

What are the chances that some, or all of the 5 will flip on Holder and anyone else higher up in the food chain?

All five were reasigned by Holder while the investigation was going on–what a coincidence–probably in return for their silence, but now that they have been implicated perhaps they will flip.

What about the civil case against Holder? I’m no lawyer, but like the OJ Simpson case, in a criminal trial its a matter of having to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt; but in a civil trial one can be found guilty based on a preponderence of evidence. Don’t we still have a chance to nail Holder?

B, it is a funny thing about covering your own butt, isn’t it? I imagine some of them will have some integrity, morals and a conscience, unlike their bosses. Let’s hope for the best.

It is really a shame that Issa can’t get his hands on those documents. I don’t like a witch hunt anymore than anyone else does, but this is no witch hunt. This is a major scandal and it should be outed. No chance of that happening with Obama still in office.

No, it is no witch hunt and the mere fact that Obama had to hide these documents tells us there is something big hidden in their pages. Maybe someday when we have a different president these documents will be unclassified and we will finally learn the truth.

I hate to say this, but I just don’t see this going anywhere. The biggest scandal in our lifetime that lead to the death of a Border Patrol agent have been successfully covered up. Now is the time for Rep. Issa to stand on principle and take it to the next step and that is bring a civil suit against Holder. We simply cannot allow these criminals to use our system against us.

Maybe that is what Issa is setting up John. I think this is dead as well although I did read another article today that made me think maybe there is more to come.

I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that Holder will get nailed, not as long as he has the POTUS protecting him… Get em BOTH or it isn’t going to happen, and the named folks that supposedly caused this; they just fell on their swords to protect the Obamessiah!
