Open thread for Saturday September 1: Barack Obama’s ‘Red Right Hand’ edition

September 1, 2012

Here is the open thread for Saturday September 1st, this is the place to leave links you find interesting or to engage in conversation about whatever issues happen to come up.

Later on today we are going to go see the movie ‘Lawless’ it is a movie based on the true story of three brothers during the prohibition era. The screenplay just happens to have been written by one of my all time favorite musicians, Nick Cave, so I am really looking forward to seeing the movie and listening to the soundtrack.

About a year ago I wrote a post called ‘Barack Obama’s Red Right Hand’ in which I took a Nick Cave song written in 1994 and compared it to Barack Obama and his policies. The entity with the Red Right Hand was a man who made promises, but a man who had to be watched carefully because he “ain’t what he seems.” I have readers here today that I didn’t have over a year ago so in the interest of shameless self promotion I have decided to link to the article.

Please check out Barack Obama’s “Red Right Hand.”

And here is a pretty cool live version of the song:

I had to do an essay in college on Louis Armstrongs song called “What did I do, to be so black and blue”, it has been so long ago, not sure what I even said. It was about being black on the outside and white on the inside, I do remember that.Songs used to have more meaning back then, didn’t they?
We have the rain coming in from Isaac now in Illinois. Locally we could have 6″, go figure, begging for the last 2 1/2 months for anything and now this, it will be alot of run off, I am afraid.

Thought this might be of interest, seems that the DNC is planning on filling ALL the seats in the stadium, all 73,000 plus of them. What are you feelings on HOW they are going to do it and how much it will cost. As much as I wanted to watch the RNC this past week, I think the DNC will be far more entertaining.Remember, money is no object when it comes to being deceitful.

I read a post somewhere that the Obama campaign was actually giving away free tickets in bars in the area in order to fill the stadium. I don’t know if it is true, but if it is it is a sign of how troubled the campaign is right now.

“money is no object when it comes to being deceitful.”
That sure was apparent at the RNC.

Give an example, please. Always ready to have a discussion about something, but we need something to go on, first.

Pretty sure you are correct. Of course it could be another thread like the one from last August about the illegals, right? That sure has had a good run.

The only thing I was thinking is that it must be awful boring to just go around the blogs and drop bombs on them. I mean, would you get much out of it? It seems that a meaningful discussion about something would be much more fulfilling, whether you agree or not with what is posted. Yep, they must not have a life. Stupid people, I say.

That post on illegal immigration is the post that keeps on giving, I don’t think it is ever going to stop, but that’s just fine with me. It would seem to me that if one was going to drop bombs on blogs just to create a reaction that one would want to come back to see if it worked, but they don’t for some reason.

That was certainly a stirring salute to our troops candidate Romney gave during his acceptance speech, wasn’t it?

It was a good speech by Romney, but not a great speech. Much of the convention was designed to give us a look at the side of Romney we do not see, but still it was odd that he didn’t mention the troops. Equally odd was the fact that Obama had no intention of visiting the flood victims in Louisiana until after he learned Romney was going there and it looked bad.

Thanks for the video, never heard of Nick Cave, but will do some searching now. The song sure does seem to hit the nail on the head.

I found Nick Cave on the internet several years ago and I love his music. It isn’t for everybody, I hope you like it!

How many years has Sheriff Arpaio and some of his staff been under investigation by AG Eric Holder? Well it has finally come to an end and, wonder of wonders, he was cleared. Go figure. Guess it took the heat off of AG Holder for awhile with the Issa/Grassley investigation of him, now the game is back on.

I found this! It seems that there is no one smarter or better at anything than our president is. I am not sure why anyone is running against him in this presidential race if that is the case. It also seems that there are Democrats that are getting tired of his attitude:
    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/09/03/Democrats-Air-Frustrations-with-Obama-Cockiness-Narcissism
On a side note: I am really good at some things and suck at others, does that make me normal? I can’t imagine being the best at everythng that was ever tried, that must be a very heavy burden to carry.

That’s funny Lou, I just finished reading that article before I came back here. My first thought was that at least the Democrats are finally starting to see the character traits (flaws) in Obama that we have seen almost from the beginning Obama appears to be the only man that can do everything perfectly!

Perhaps it is the hitting them in the pocketbook that is changing their minds? How long can you support someone that is taking you down a notch at a time? At some point you have to say “no more”, maybe this is that point?

In the end they will all protect themselves and if that means distancing themselves from Obama that is what they will do.

I found this and it is very unsettling to read and watch the video. For those of us that Romney was not the first choice, I have to question after reading and watching, IF we even really had a choice who the candidate was. If you watch it, please post what you think about it. I would like to think that our votes still count, but now wonder!

I haven’t had a chance to watch the whole video, but it is troubling the Republicans made rule changes at the beginning of the convention to protect the establishment candidates while hurting true grassroots efforts.

A great video Lou! It seems the more things change the more they stay the same. This video highlights the fact that Obama has accomplished nothing, he is running on the same positions as he did in 2008 and that only shows us he has failed to live up to expectations.
