Open thread for Saturday September 15: Unofficial Southern New Hampshire lawn sign poll results edition
Here is the open thread for Saturday, September 15th. Feel free to post links to interesting articles and discuss whatever issues arise throughout the day.
I have a couple of little site announcements to make today: First; my wife and I are taking a weekend vacation to Weirs Beach to celebrate our wedding anniversary so I will not be posting or answering comments until Monday. Second; I have a new commitment on Thursday evenings (at least for the time being, it may become permanent) which will make it almost impossible for me to post on Thursdays, so I will be changing the days of the open threads to Thursdays and Sundays. The next open thread will not be until next Thursday.
As I travel through the southern portion of New Hampshire on a daily basis I decided to conduct an unofficial lawn sign poll, here are the results so far:
Mitt Romney: 20 plus lawn signs
Gary Johnson: 6 lawn signs
Barack Obama: 2 lawn signs, but this comes with a caveat. One of these lawn signs has been proudly displayed since 2008 and decorated with two small American flags, one on each side. It has been well taken care of for years. So technically Barack Obama has only one lawn sign which can be attributed to this election cycle.
I am hoping that this is a sign of things to come in New Hampshire when the election rolls around in November.
On a totally unrelated note I have decided to include two musical selections from Iggy Pop; ‘Five Foot One,’ and ‘The Passenger.’
Enjoy and have a great weekend everybody! See you on Monday when I return refreshed and ready to go after a couple of days off. It is needed after what turned out to be quite a trying week in the news.

Have a good vacation, Steve.

For some reason, I thought I would always stay in my 30’s, haha, silly me. Now my kids are in their mid to late 30’s, I can’t imagine what happened. I guess I was so busy just living life that time has passed, all too quickly. Now at the ripe old age of 58, it doesn’t seem as old as when my parents were that age. We are much “younger” mentally and physically than they were, right? Say what you will, I am sticking with that!

On to something that I have to say! We went out to eat and a movie (Last Ounce of Courage) with friends last night. The movie was a tear jerker IF you are a cryer (I am not, but heard alot of sniffles), it was an uplifting film about the loss of our freedoms. This was not the reason I am posting, but the conversation we had with the friends afterwards at dinner. You probably remember, I had wanted Ron Paul in to run against Obama, I know that there is absolutely no chance of that now so I will vote for Romney, but back to my conversation. The woman of the couple was very much for Ron Paul, that is how we met them, she was saying she is writing in his name when she votes. I brought up the fact that it would be like giving her vote to Obama, but she doesn’t see it that way, it was a way for her to protest. Now, I wonder how many people are going to feel that same way? Is it possibly going to be votes going to Johnson, Santorum, Gingrich, etc…and push the vote for Obama because of it? This was a little disturbing. Most the time, when the candidate is picked then most people will fall in line and vote for that person (holding their nose sometimes), somehow this election will be different. I just have the feeling that alot of votes will be not really FOR someone, but IN SPITE OF someone else. I am wondering if any of you are hearing this same sentiment?

I too was a Ron paul supporter during the early primaries. I know and follow a lot of libertarian bloggers. I am almost; but never will be, a libertarian. Every last one of my libertarian friends has said they will either not vote or they will vote for Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate. For them it is a matter of principle. They see the Republican party as being as bad or worse than the Democratic Party. A couple have said that if they didn’t have a candidate of their own, they would vote for Obama because they see four more years of Obama as better than eight years of Romney. To be sure, The Republican Party , over the years, has earned a lot of scorn. They want to change America through the Libertarian Party. I tell them I want to change America by working to reform the Republican party as the Tea Party movement is doing and as many paulites are doing. It is a slow process. They tell me that reforming the Republican party is impossible. I tell them that when the Libertarians have elected enough members to the House and the Senate to make a difference to please let me know and i will reevaluate my position. Many of them respond to the claim that their votes are really votes for Obama, disagree. They claim that they have more Democrats in their movement than Republicans. So, I don’t know Loo, how much impact they will have on this election, if any. My guess is they will draw about 5% of the vote and some of that will be voters who otherwise would have voted for Obama. We shall see.

I too lean Libertarian, but not quite. I hope what you are saying is right. I guess they have a point of 4 years with Obama versus 8 with Romney, but Obama can do a hell of alot of damage in those 4 years, IF we are ever allowed to vote again. I still see Romney as the lesser of the two that might just slow the progression down a bit. Jim, you can call me Linda!

Yup! We know where Obama’s priorities are, don’t we? Thanks for posting this link, Linda. More people need to know just how dangerous and UnAmerican Barack Obama is.

Interesting article, I wonder how this will play out. That they had a hand in the making of the film and now they are going to have to pressure SONY into not putting the film out because, after all, they can’t offend Muslims. Seems any other religion can be offended, however.

I am finding it harder and harder to copy and past “certain” videos, do any others have this problem? This was the only way I could even copy this one, not sure it will come out. If not, go to http://www.iwontheworld.com it is under “This i Bob” from today the 18th.

That was interesting! Isn’t it interesting that the left claims the right is trying to infringe on the rights of gay people, yet kowtows to Islam which is institutionally anti-gay to the point where they feel murdering them is justified because they are infidels?
