Is Barack Obama planning a drone strike in Libya as an October Surprise?
According to this article Barack Obama is preparing for a drone strike in Libya if the people who were responsible for the September 11th attack on the consulate in Libya which left Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead can be identified and found.
Administration officials say the White House has put special operations strike forces on standby and moved drones into the skies above Africa, ready to hit militant targets from Libya to Mali, if U.S. investigators can find the al-Qaida-linked group responsible for the death of the U.S. ambassador in Libya.
I do not have a problem with this whatsoever, in fact I support it, all of those responsible for the attack must be brought to justice. However, Barack Obama cannot bring himself to do what is right until he looks at it through a political prism and that is what he is doing here as well:
But the officials say the administration also is weighing whether the short-term payoff of being able to claim retribution against al-Qaida is worth the risk that such strikes would be ineffective and rile governments in the region
He will not seek retribution unless he determines the political payoff (an October surprise) is worth the risk of further igniting the anti-American flames which has has kindled in the Middle East. This is typical of Barack Obama, he always looks at image before results and this is no different.
While I want to see all of those responsible for the attack brought to justice I extend this beyond those who carried out the attack because we know the Obama regime had actionable intelligence about the attack and did nothing to stop it. We also know the Obama regime ignored requests for more security in the region even though they had this actionable intelligence. And we also know the Obama regime has lied about and covered up the true reason behind the attack as well as the regime’s failure to prevent the attack.
So while ultimately those who actually attacked the consulate in Libya are responsible, the Obama regime is culpable for not doing anything to prevent the attack and a high ranking official in the Obama regime also needs to be held accountable. Then, and only then, will justice really be served.

Oh he will drone away but who knows who he is killing? What intelligence do we gain by doing it from some form of computer game. Frankly, these Drones are out of control. He is blasting them all over Africa and for what? Get the hell out of the place.

It makes you wonder if these drone attacks are being used to destroy intelligence instead of gaining it. Who knows what secrets will die with a drone attack.

The people responsible for the death of our citizens should be brought to justice. I’m not so sure a drone strike is necessarily the right thing to do, but it may be our only option. Having said that, there is no way Obama should be claiming credit for any possible foreign policy success. His policies are part of the reason our people were killed and he refuses to admit that failure.
Obama also has no right to claim al Qaeda has been weakened and made impotent. That is obviously not the case and he is playing with political posturing if he says anything different.

Exactly Larry, because Obama’s policy led to a void in leadership in Libya and elsewhere in the Middle East the region has been made even more unstable than it was, for him to claim victory now would be ludicrous considering his policies led to this debacle in the first place.

Obama’s position is actually working under an old adage. Cut the head of the snake, and the body dies. What he doesn’t seem to get, is that these people and bred and raised to kill westerners (emphasis on Americans). It’s all they know to do. They will never stop, they will keep this up no matter how many leaders they kill. But his persistent arrogance won’t allow him to believe this. He thinks he’s some kind of god and can do anything, just because he says so, and with the liberal lemmings, all looking for that ‘one’ thing he promised everyone, he’s thoughts on this have been reinforced.

I bookmarked a similar article earlier today and am thinking of posting on it tomorrow. Something doesn’t smell right. Sadly,we can not believe anything we hear from this administration. He could tell me the absolute truth about something and I wouldn’t believe beacause he has lied too much in the past.

I agree Jim, nothing is as it seems with this man, if he does go through with this it will be for ulterior motives. Perhaps there is some evidence there he would like to destroy.

Seems strange that they would actually leak the idea of a drone attack. You would think that would tip off the potential targets.

Good point, perhaps that is part of the plan.

Unfortunately, this weak admission is very lacking in ownership in 2 areas. 1. I believe Hillary is is attempting to move this as an issue away from Obama’s upcoming debate, as he will now have an answer to the question “what happened and who’s responsible”, and can be immediately doled off on Hillary, although ultimately Obama is in charge, and responsible for everything. 2. Even though she’s stating that she takes full responsibility, she appends the “we still don’t know what really happened and are continuing to investage” as if there is anything that they can find to relieve the fact that several requests were made for security and were denied.
