Did John Boehner threaten to punish more conservatives?
After losing every battle with Barack Obama and the Democrats, and after being out-maneuvered at every turn since he became the Speaker of the House two years ago, John Boehner has turned his attention to a new foe–conservative Republicans.
I wrote a post yesterday about John Boehner’s decision to strip four conservative Republicans of their committee positions and those conservatives are claiming it was because they were unwilling to go along to get along with the Republican establishment political class. John Boehner claims there were a number of factors that went into this decision but retribution was not one of them, however we learned that the Republican leadership has a secret criteria it used to make this decision and it involves a vote tally.
We’ve heard from multiple sources that someone walked in with a list of votes and said if you didn’t reach a particular scorecard of what was considered the right vote – which by the way, in most cases, was not the conservative position – then [they said] ‘we’re going to have to remove you from the committee,’” Huelskamp said.
It certainly sounds like retribution to me, and if that isn’t enough proof it is now being reported that at a meeting earlier today John Boehner actually threatened to punish more Republicans if they dared to vote against the establishment’s wishes in the future.
according to Kansas Republican Rep. Tim Huelskamp, Boehner used his weekly GOP conference meeting to “note that we [leadership] have punished four members, he claimed that it had nothing to do with their conservative ideology, but had to do with their voting patterns.”
Huelskamp also said Boehner threatened “there may be more folks that will be targeted” and that Boehner told the caucus that “‘we’re watching all your votes.
So, John Boehner claimed that his decision wasn’t made because these four conservatives were conservatives but rather was made because these Republicans voted conservative instead of toeing the party line. What the hell is the difference?
And now he is threatening to do the same to others if they do not fall in lockstep with the political class establishment leaders. If John Boehner had showed this much courage and this much passion while dealing with Barack Obama and the Democrats over the last two years perhaps the Republicans wouldn’t be in the sorry state they now find themselves in.
John Boehner is in the process of destroying the Republican party to save his own ass and it is time for him to do the right thing and step down, some people were not meant to be leaders and John Boehner is one such person.

Steve you nailed it. It is definitely time for John Boehner to step down. If the RNC and leaders in the party cannot see he is destroying the party they’re blind. If he remains Speaker of the House the party is done. Maybe it’s time for it to be done.

I agree John, but I fear that most of the Republicans might agree with him on this.

The Republicans have a serious problem as a political party. The party is run by people who don’t stabd for the dame thing as their largest base..A party does heed discipline and he memberd dhould work together as a unit. How do you do that when you have the kind of split the GOP does? The GOP platform says one thing, but the leadership says something else. NOT GOOD!

I think the GOP is about to implode and I don’t think that Boehner is caving, I think this is how he really feels and he is using the election loss to push what he would have liked to do all along.

John Boehner has to go. He’s a whimp toward the prez and a bully toward the repubs. He should be impeached for abusing his Speakership powers for intimidating and railroading decisions to acquiesce toward Obama’s communist agenda.

I agree, it is time for Boehner to go, I think he is one reason why DeMint left the Senate. He knows what is going to happen and he wants to wash his hands of it.

Boehner’s GOT TO GO! This POS is no more than Dem-lite, and actually not that lite. It is a RINO, and the only way the R party remains is to dismiss “leadership” like this and return to their principles. THAT is why we lost, that is why so many millions sat home. Why fucking bother?
