Open thread for Sunday, January 13th

January 13, 2013

Here is the open thread for Sunday, January 13th; please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues may arise during the course of the day.

The last few days have been quite busy so I haven’t had the time to post or to comment as frequently as usual and that also means I haven’t had the time to think of a musical theme or selection for the open thread this week.

I’d like to take this time to remind people that you can follow me on both Twitter and Facebook by clicking on the links over there on the right. I use them both to promote America’s Watchtower, and I use Twitter to post links to articles I find during the day.

I want some opinions about Conceal Carry Permit class and the background they do for you to get it. How do you feel about being finger printed, etc…in order to get the CC? Here in town they are offering a CC class and it will be recognized in 31 states, NOT Illinois. I know the government has about everything they need on any of us, but DNA, but what are your feelings on having all that background done.

I don’t have a problem with a background check to make sure felons aren’t getting CC permits. And I don’t even have a problem if a state requires a safety course. But I do have a problem with fingerprinting because I think that goes above and beyond.
Here is New Hampshire getting a CC permit is pretty easy; you pay the fee, provide three references, and they do a background check on you.You get a permit roughly one week after you apply unless your references see a reason why you should be denied or if you are a convicted felon. Once you have the permit you just have to renew it every five years without any hassle.

I have been looking forward to your open thread for a couple weeks. I wish I could make people understand that the recent shooting aren’t isolated gun problems, but rather some examples of a much larger problem, and that problem is a celebration of ANTI-SOCIAL behavior. Everything from graffiti, vandalism, and public urination, through to shootings and blowing up buildings is really all the same. The individual is saying I AM MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ELSE. And I think the recent increase in anti-social behavior is part of the stupid “self esteem” movement of the last couple decades combined with this desire to eliminate God from society. After all, if we are the most important thing in the universe, who needs a supreme being?
Gone are the days of “…ask not what your country can do for you…” Now, we live in a country where “entitlements” are all important, and if we don’t get what we want, there will be hell to pay.

I couldn’t agree more Bruce, there is much more at play here than gun laws and that is a total breakdown in society and the family unit coupled with the mindset that everyone feels they are owed something.

I have heard that hospital patients will be limited to three days of painkiller medication in order to prevent addiction. I’m sure medical maryjane distribution will face no such restriction anymore than the crack dealers populating most corners in the hood and surrounding environs. As someone who suffered three broken ribs this past December 22nd and still requires painkillers in order to cope with the indescribable pain I must take exception to this latest government intrusion into our personal lives. I’m sure our elected pinheads will be exempt. Incredible,no?

Yes Bloomberg does want to limit pain killers and no I don’t think he would ever dare to limit medical pot. What a double standard! That is an interesting point you brought up.

Sorry to hear about your ribs, Peter! I imagine this is not enough time for you to be healed yet. I hope you do NOT live in New York! I am sure that the administration will be exempt, and we let it happen….what is wrong with us.

I didn’t know it was that pugmy Bloomberg’s latest bought of liberal lunacy.
On another note I was informed that retired military’s health benefits were reduced from free for life to co-pay and now will be reduced even further to being responsible for a percentage of their health care expenses. Those SOB’s in congress and the administration who are cutting our veterans benefits are shameless.

I hadn’t heard that, but that is absolutely shameful. Note they aren’t cutting their own benefits.

My Aunt and Uncle are in their 80’s and retired military with Tricare. I tried to tell my Uncle back the first time Obama was elected that they would be going after his insurance…he laughed at me and said the government would always take care of their military. He voted for him again and now has to face a pretty hefty deductible…some people don’t listen and some people don’t learn.

I understand why your uncle would think that the government would always take care of the military because they always have, but he failed to realize who Barack Obama was and sadly he had to find out the hard way. It is a shame what Obama is going to do to the military!

Another thought for today. If anyone is a writer, I have a great book title for you:

Did not Hitler promise everyone precisely what they wanted?

We would tend to believe the American people are too sophisticated to accede to a Hitleresque plan of spending our way out of a depression with massive public works spending but the last election results prove otherwise. Obama will be able to spend our way into economic collapse, blame it on others and then offer a way out centered around concentration of all power in his hands. The blacks, the poor and the unemployed will be the greatest source of useful idiots. Along with the upper class and upper middle class whose self induced idealism, brought about with too much idle time on their hands, see themselves as progressives, the pseudonym for socialist, if of which they have no awareness. The final chapter, who knows?

B, he has the power, don’t you know!!!! He won, we lost, or so he tells us. Now, ask if he did it “legally” and that would be questionable!!!!

He has every right to bask in his pomposity as the media, taking their cue from their fuehrer, blame the country’s economic and fiscal woes squarely on the right being held hostage by the conservatives refusal to tax the rich along with their raising taxes on all the rest of us. With the republican elites efforts to marginalize any vestiges of conservatism in the party Obama will emerge unscathed. I for one now have all the motivation needed to change my affiliation fromGOP to Independent, something I never would have dreamed of in the past. Thanks for nothing you RINO and elitest self serving moral cowards.

Yep, he is arrogant because he knows the MSM will not call him out and he knows the RINOs will give him what he wants so why wouldn’t he be confident?!

I sure understand. As Dennis Prager says, there are 2 parties, the party of the evil, and the party of the stupid, and there is no question that the Republicans are stupid. Prager continously complains that there is nobody on the Republican side who can get out a message.
I changed to Independant 12 years ago, but ALWAYS vote for the most conservative candadate WITH A CHANCE OF WINNING. We can’t afford a wasted vote. Proof = last election.

You know the more I read about what the Democrats want, I think that saving children’s lives by gun control and at the same time supporting abortion is very hypocritical. They either are concerned about children ALWAYS or they are just playing games and trying to score political points.

It’s funny Lou because I actually started a post on that subject but I never finished it, the hipocrisy abounds.
