Obamacare: Democrats throwing Down Syndrome children off the cliff

August 2, 2013

It can be hard to debate liberals at times because they demagogue so many issues:  The Republicans want dirty air and water, the Republicans want you to get sick and die, the Republicans are throwing granny off the cliff; these are but three examples of recent Democrat demagoguery.

Well, two can play that game, so here goes: The Democrats are throwing Down Syndrome children over the cliff with Obamacare.

Millions of Americans supplement their healthcare insurance by donating pre-tax earnings to Flexible Spending Accounts through employer based plans. Before Obamacare was implemented the amount an individual could donate to FSAs per year was unlimited, but in order for the government to obtain more revenue Obamacare has placed a limit of $2,500 a year on FSAs.

This change in the law will not affect most Americans as most Americans donate less than $2.500 a year to these plans, but there is one group of people who routinely donate much more money to FSAs than the average American and that group is the parents of children with Down Syndrome.

Most people don’t, but the one group that does put a lot of money into their FSAs is parents of kids with Down Syndrome, and parents of kids with physical disabilities,” Ellis said.

“Currently, if parents send their kids to a special school, the tuition is considered a qualified medical expense that can run through your FSA. If you have a kid who needs a durable piece of medical equipment that’s not covered by insurance, you can run that through your FSA,” Ellis said. “If FSAs had any limits before Obamacare, those were determined by the employer. The IRS had nothing to do with it.

“Obamacare creates a new $2,500 cap for FSAs,” Ellis continued. “That’s not going to affect most people, who just put in enough to pay for eyeglasses or dental work. But the one group that is being restricted is parents of special-needs children

A big chunk of the tuition parents paid for special-needs schools used to be on a pre-tax basis. Now, they’re paying on an after-tax basis

Many parents of Down Syndrome children send their loved ones to special schools and while healthcare insurance does not cover the cost of these schools FSAs do. These parents will still find a way to send their children to the special schools, even though they are no longer allowed to enough pre-tax money aside,  but because the new law limits the amount a person can donate to FSAs more money will be coming out of post-tax earnings meaning these parents will have less money to spend on other necessities.

Because Obamacare passed with no Republican support it can be said that the Democrats are throwing the parents of Down Syndrome children over the cliff.

It is not surprising to me that the Democrats would target these people, after all they believe once a pregnant woman finds out she is carrying a Down Syndrome baby they believe the mother should chose to abort that baby.

This is not really new. This very thing was mentioned before the passage of Obamacare. The rationale was that the FSA accounts were causing people to “over consume” health care. I took that to mean “hey, we need to find more tax revenues so we’re going to use a euphemism here.” Any over consumption of health care due to FSA accounts is because of the “use it or lose it” rules. I guess it made too much sense to fix that.

“It is not surprising to me that the Democrats would target these people, after all they believe once a pregnant woman finds out she is carrying a Down Syndrome baby they believe the mother should chose to abort that baby.”

Now, you’re just trolling. LOL. I guess I could counter that Republicans want to use government’s monopoly of force to make the choice for the mother. 😛

Like I said, demagoguing, I admitted at the beginning I was going to do that in this post. As for the Republicans, check out the link at the top right of the blog and then follow the link to the platform page to find the platform, that is what I have been working on. You may be surprised.

Wish you the best of luck there. As you know, the deck is stacked.

Thanks. Both parties are two different sides of the same coin and when push comes to shove they will band together to stop anyone else from honing in on their power. Their own power is all they really care about in the end and yes, the deck is stacked.

You know, this makes me sick! I guess any of us that have physical or mental issues are not worthy of living. I have done medical for Special Olympics for years, these children and adults that participate are awesome. They give it their all and are gentle in nature, there is no fighting going on. The parents are cheering them on and the day goes smoothly. Compare that to the knock down drag outs that you see at some games that include parents and I would much rather donate my time to Special Olympics. I do NOT think anyone should have the ability to tell me or anyone else that their child should be aborted, that is a personal decision. I am tired of the Government telling us how to live our lives and think it needs to be stopped.
Terrant, “trolling” is not a word I would ever associate with Steve, but you say what you want. Last I checked we still have Freedom of Speech, at least for awhile longer. When that goes, you will have to keep your opinions to yourself, that should work out well.

Lou, what happened to your name? LOL.
The government just cannot stand it that people are allowed to shield money from them and in order to get it they do not care who they hurt because they think they can use the money more wisely than we can. Terrant’s comment kind of proves that when he mentions “over-consuming” healthcare.

Beats me, maybe someone is trying to mess with me. It is still ME, however.

Never hurts! Words can have different meanings on paper as to how they are perceived.

How dare you use the tactics of the liberals against them. Don’t you know that’s against the rules of engagement?

Seriously though, this is a problem for these families. They have depended on these special spending accounts to help take care of their children. And now, because of an arbitrary decision by the government, fueled by its incessant need for more revenue, they are limited in that regard.

We are on the way to a workers’ paradise ala Cuba; no jobs and soon viable health care for the elites only. But we will leave them in the dust when it comes to euthanasia and infanticide.
