Disgraced IRS official Lois Lerner will get to keep her full pension

September 24, 2013

When I wrote about the retiring of Lois Lerner yesterday I speculated that this move would allow the disgraced official to keep her pension. It wasn’t really a hard prediction to make but now it appears as if that is indeed the case.

Lois Lerner, the IRS official who presided over a partisan program that targeted conservative organizations because of their political beliefs, will retire on Monday with a full pension package, a source at the Department of Treasury told MailOnline.

Lerner, 62, has been a federal government employee since at least 1981, making her eligible for the most robust retirement package the federal government offers career employees.

Because she is a career public servant she is also going to receive the best retirement package the Federal Government has for its dedicated employees of the public trust. Isn’t that wonderful? But if that was not bad enough she is also going to receive 50% compensation for all of her unused sick and vacation time.

And this reward is going to a person who was the subject of an internal investigation which was set to reveal that she was “neglect of duties” while calling for her removal from the department. It is clear to me that she was tipped off about the internal investigation’s findings and abruptly decided to retire in order to protect her benefits.

I read several stories yesterday about Lois Lerner’s retirement and most of them portrayed this news as if she was a casualty of the scandal, the biggest head to roll, and the stories portrayed this as proof that the Federal Government can police itself, but nothing could be further from the truth.

She was not punished for her role in the IRS targeting scandal because she jumped ship before anything could happen to her and now she is able to retire and receive all her benefits. That does not seem like punishment to me and I hope the Congress takes up the issue of her pension.

With any luck she should enjoy some of her retirement In jail. I wonder if any of the groups she denied could sue her.

Hopefully this story is not over and charges will be brought against her. Now that she is a private citizen I hope these groups can go after her.

I’m missing something. It’s the samething I’ve been misssing since she took the 5th. This women used her good offices as a weapon. To me that was criminal. But, I guess it’s too much to ask the Republicans to take action. Gosh I wouldn’t want them accused of being on a witch hunt; although I think Ms. Lerner fits the bill.

Yes, she has that right but I am hoping that she someday pays the price for what she did but I think it is highly unlikely.

Steve, the moment that woman spoke those words invoking the Fifth Amendment rights, the US Attorney General should have impanelled a federal grand jury because an indictment would more than likely be sought if anyone else invokes the Fifth Amendment rights. There is immediate culpability of having involvement knowingly, in a crime.
The Dictator does not want the Second Amendment followed. The Dictator doesn’t want the First Amendment followed. The People should demand that nothing is awarded as the Fifth Amendment is being wrongfully applied. She pulls the Fifth, okay, she gets nothing until everything, is squared away.

I just read an article that states she is seeking immunity in return for her testimony in front of the Congress. It makes you wonder if she is going to spill the beans on some higher ups. Maybe even Holder, which would explain why he is not interested in convening a grand jury.

It is sickening to me that she is able to walk away as if nothing happened right before the report was going to come out.

My disgust is with those who allowed her to ‘retire’ with full benefits – completely obscene! She should have been offered two choices – be fired for ‘neglect of duties’ and face criminal prosecution OR retire with NOTHING and face criminal prosecution!

    I’m so reasonable and compassionate…. 🙂

We should show her the same compassion she showed the groups she was targeting, and that is none! This woman belongs in jail for what she did!
