Government shutdown: The Republicans are preparing to cave to the Democrats

October 11, 2013

The details of the latest Republican proposal to end the government shutdown are still sketchy but if all of the reports are true it looks as if they are about to cave to the Democrats and give them virtually everything they wanted in the first place.

The debt ceiling will be raised, the government will be reopened, Obamacare will be funded, the individual mandate will not be delayed, and worst of all, many of the sequester cuts will be reversed. The Republican proposal is a temporary proposal for it lifts the debt ceiling for six weeks and only funds the government through the middle of December, at that point we have to live through this theater yet again. The temporary aspect of this proposal is a blatantly obvious attempt at saving face, but it is not the only face saving measure being proposed.

In addition to this the Republicans are trying to save face by proposing a repeal of the unpopular medical device tax and the promise of future negotiations on spending cuts. So let me see if I have this correct; the Republicans are going to allow the sequester spending cuts to be reversed and then after this spending is raised they are going to go back to the table to talk about spending cuts. Does that make any sense even if the future spending cut negotiations ever come to pass, which I highly doubt.

Do they really believe any re-instituted spending will be cut in the future, or do they think we are too stupid to see the little game they are playing? All that the American people are going to get out of this deal is the repeal of a tax that both parties wanted to see repealed in the first place and we are supposed to believe the Republicans are heroes for repealing a tax that even the Democrats  wanted to see repealed?

The only reason why this tax has not yet been repealed is because each side has not wanted the other side to get credit for the repeal. With this deal both sides will be able to take credit for repealing the medical device tax and that is really all they are interested in, they have been playing both sides against the American people and they finally have a way to ensure they both take credit for this.

Time and time again we see the Republicans agree to immediate taxes for the promise of future spending reductions which never take place. The one instance where we actually saw a spending cut (if you want to call a reduction in the rate of spending growth a reduction) was with the sequester and now they are undoing that.

What a bunch of ball-less bastards! If the Republicans agree to this compromise they will be shellacked in the 2014 election and personally I look forward to it because it is exactly what they deserve. The worse they get destroyed in 2014 the happier it will make me. Schadenfreude, thine is my name.

Remind me, why did we put ourselves through all of this nonsense. They use a couple of fake polls and do you know what in their pants. How about Obama’s poll numbers at 37? Then we had those stupid rinos. Disgusted. Totally.

I am with you, this poll is being reported while the poll showing Obama plummeting is not. It is so disheartening to see the Republicans cave like this, but the truth is most of them are looking for an excuse to end a shutdown they were forced into by the only conservatives remaining in the party today.

I’m with you, Steve. I’m disappointed and disgusted, but I’m not surprised. They are winning and don’t know it. How stupid is that? What good has it done for the Republicans to be in control of the House? Their claim to fame is a Super Committee and the pathetic sequester cuts. What a bunch of losers!

I am not surprised either, in fact I am more surprised that the republicans had the balls to shut down the government in the first place.

It’s the end of the world as we know it, it’s the end of the world as we know, it’s the end of the world as we know it…and I feel fine.

We are reaching the point of empathy, aren’t we? And that is what they want. I posted this on NFP as well; polls show support of a third party at an all time high, I think it is time to make something happen!

I purposely chose not to watch the tube today because I felt this was coming and didn’t care to watch. At least it can be said that the gang of 232 is consistent. The fried chicken will be flowing in the Peoples House tonight.

I don’t blame you there, that was probably the right choice. This is not surprising in the least, just another attempt by the GOP to make it appear as if they are doing something while doing nothing.

I hadn’t heard anyone suggest that the sequester cuts would be reversed. The Ryan budget proposal is at the sequester levels, and as far as I’ve heard, the Dems already accepted it – so long as they get a debt ceiling raise that extends to the 2014 election.

The biggest mistake was the Cruz-inspired shutdown to try and obstruct the implementation of Obamacare, which not only did not stop it, but actually gave the Administration a “soft” rollout of the program by diverting all the media attention to the shutdown and AWAY from the ACA problems! The tactic totally backfired, the majority of the public wants to fire every single member of Congress, and now there’s no leverage for the GOP in negotiations over the debt ceiling.

If there was another republican with an alternate and better idea than Cruz he sure didn’t grow a set of balls in time to challenge Cruz’s strategy. We call it “put up or shut up”.

All they did was conspire against him because they didn’t have the guts to do anything real, now they are about to cave again. Sickening!

If it turns out that the Republicans cave on this, they will have gained nothing but a black eye during the shutdown. If it also turns out that they are creating a way to reverse the spending cuts they fought so hard to achieve with the sequester, then they will also have dug themselves a much deeper hole in which to sink. How they can think either, caving or reversing the sequester cuts, is a good thing is beyond my comprehension.

At this point I do not think they have a clue as to what they are doing. There are the McCain’s out there trying to pull the party to the left and then there are the Cruz’s fighting for conservatism. The party is divided and who will ultimately gain control of the party is anyone’s guess.

I saw this, it appears as if support for a third party has never been stronger. Of course I believe the New Federalist Party is the way to go. Hopefully by next week’s open threat I will have an announcement to make about where we are. Nothing major, but a step in the right direction.

They don’t have to prep for it – they’re well-rehearsed at caving in to the Dems –

You’d think by now that they would learn to use Rules for Radicals and stand pat, demonize the left etc. until they cave.

But that would take functioning brains!
