Top US hospital announces layoffs due to Obamacare

November 25, 2013

We have seen several trends begin to emerge as Obamacare nears full implementation: Companies are laying off employees to avoid the employer mandate, people are having their hours cut to less than 30 a week so that employers can avoid the employer mandate, and people who like their insurance are losing it as they are being pushed into more expensive plans they cannot afford. People are working less hours (if they are working at all) and yet they are mandated to buy more expensive insurance, from a website which does not work, that they cannot afford or else face the wrath of the IRS, and this is being trumpeted as an improvement?

This is not the end of the Obamcare fallout, but rather the beginning. We are also seeing hospitals cut back as they try to cope with the increasing costs of doing business in the new healthcare marketplace.

The Cleveland Clinic, which according to this article, is one of the top hospitals in the nation, is the latest hospital to announce layoffs and cutbacks partially due to Obamacare:

The Cleveland Clinic, which is ranked among the top four U.S. hospitals, is making layoffs and cutting its budget more than $100 million as a direct result of the Affordable Care Act, the Daily Caller has learned.

“The cuts for 2014, about half of those are related to the Affordable Care Act…We anticipate a reduction in workforce,” Cleveland Clinic executive director of communications Eileen Sheil said in an interview with TheDC.

The Cleveland Clinic is reducing its 2014 budget by $330 million.

We can rest assured that if this is happening to one of the top hospitals in the nation that it will happen to others–this will not be an isolated example and in fact will be yet another trend. If this can happen to top hospitals what will the effect be on the lesser hospitals people rely on on a daily basis?  With less employees in the healthcare industry, and with less services being provided by the top hospitals in the nation are we to believe there will not be healthcare rationing as the federal government seeks to lower the costs of healthcare goods and services?

Someone needs to explain to this poor plebeian how the rising costs of insurance under Obamacare as people are pushed out of their plans, coupled with a loss of hours and now hospitals cutting back on staff and services, can possibly be a better system than the one we had in place before Barack Obama and the Democrats dismantled it.

This is just the beginning and we are already seeing the disastrous results of a bill which nobody thought was important enough to read before they shoved it down our throats. But cheer up, this is the golden age for it is all downhill from here.

The purpose was always to destroy the hospital system. Single payer will come via government owned hospitals. Most are close to bankruptcy. Mergers are staving off the inevitable, I know, I worked in hospital management for 30 years. I would love to tell the tale how this will all work and the plan, but it is way too far in the weeds for most. Follow the hospitals and their layoffs… For the curious I will give a lead. Check our ” Medical Homes” there are demonstration projects of millions of dollars that already have been awarded. That is why Sebelius ruled that fraud and abuse could not be charged. I did a post awhile back on why she did it. Because the plan of medical homes are already being sued by physicians and other groups. My I got angst up!

As you are in the healthcare industry I can see why this gets your angst up! You have seen firsthand what this is going to do to the healthcare system and there is not doubt in my mind that this was the goal all along!

This ACA is the Cyanide Bill, imposed and coerced upon America by the same man who stated in his own words, in his own authorized books – America must be brought to its knees…

If people can still continue to vote for the Democrats after this planned chaos, then the insanity is even worse than I think it is. If the GOP can’t turn this into a decade of total control of the House, the Senate, and the White House, then they are worse than useless.

There is no way the Republicans should lose but we know they have no message and no spokesman so I fear they are going to blow what should be a golden opportunity.

Everywhere we look, more signs are appearing that show Obamacare is coming to fruition. It is doing the job it was designed to do, only all too well. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and for the Obama administration to start pushing for single payer.

The push for single payer will come, I am sure of it. Once it gets real bad the left will claim Obamacare didn’t go far enough and claim that is why it didn’t work. They the push will be on from the left.

You can’t implement a government medical system until you have destroyed the private market system. All private (largely religious affiliated ) hospital will lose their licensees. Doctors, nurses and technicians will become unionized federal workers. Euthanasia will become an official government policy.

The Rep are also part of the problem. They have had over 16 years to articulate a clear position. The medical care delivery system is not broken. Its the health insurance system that is broken! The Rep cannot divorce themselves from the money that flows the insurance industry.

I hear the Chinese are looking for doctors and nurses. Medical tourism is the new frontier.

Yeah, it used to be that people came here from other countries to get medical care, now Americans will be going to other countries to get care.

And once the gov’t has the hospitals the medical schools will fall into the fold. A diverse (read:minorities only need apply) student body is the logical extension of all this crap as the utterance of the term “The best and brightest” will bring the axe of racism down upon ones neck.

It is a slippery slope we have started down and the doctors who are not accepting new Medicare patients will be next. The government will force them to accept new patients and total control will be complete.

Of course you all know that this is a false story manufactured by Fox News and has been widely been debunked since it first appeared in September
