The Farm Bill includes a new tax on home heating oil
In a bipartisan vote of 251-166 the House last week approved the Farm Bill. The bill will now head to the Senate and if it passes Barack Obama is sure to sign the bill into law.
Today I put 100 gallons of oil into my tank and it cost me $369.90, but when the Farm Bill becomes law it will cost me even more to put oil in my tank because hidden in this legislation is a new fee on home heating oil.
Congress‘ mammoth farm bill restores the imposition of an extra fee on home heating oil, hitting consumers in cold-weather states just as utility costs are spiking.
The fee — two-tenths of a cent on every gallon sold — was tacked on to the end of the 959-page bill, which is winding its way through Capitol Hill. The fee would last for nearly 20 years and would siphon the money to develop equipment that is cheaper, more efficient and safer, and to encourage consumers to update their equipment.
This fee is supposed to be used to fund, you guessed it, alternative energy research. We are supposed to accept paying more now for the promise of possibly paying less in the future if any of these green energy initiatives ever pan out. Of course we saw with Barack Obama’s green energy initiative in the stimulus bill that this money was simply funneled to corporations with ties to the Obama regime and many of these companies have since gone bankrupt.
One needs to look no further than Solyndra, A123, Solar Trust, SoloPower, Enir1, BrightSource, Abengoa, SunPower, LightSquared, Tesla, Fisker, and Beacon Power to see how well this has worked out in the past, and now we are about to do it again. Barack Obama promised that under his policies energy prices would skyrocket, and while that seems to be the one promise he is keeping I never expected the House Republicans to contribute to it.
Those who do not learn from history…..

The only thing that seems to ‘evolve’ is the sickness of corruption!
Sorry to hear about the increase forced on you Steve. Use to be you could drill your own wells and tap into water, natural gas etc on your property – no longer.
What happened to ‘spread around the wealth?’ Spread the manure, and pay for the fumes.

I have nothing against developing alternative/additional sources of energy. But you highlighted the fraud and failure this regime has exhibited in doing so. Taxpayers funding my buddy’s science project is not the private sector at its best.

Exactly, I have no problem with finding new energy sources either. We just cannot trust the government to help do it because we know the money is going to be abused.

I think ‘energy sources’ is a ruse. What these usurpers want is to make it too expensive for us to ‘live’. When they have ‘free money’ at hand, they really don’t need tax payers. Now we’re back at ‘population control and eugenics’. Robots will work just fine for them. ‘Rights to life’ are Scripture based, with that gone – out of sight out of mind … “The right to life is a moral principle based on the belief that a human being has the right to live and, in particular, should not to be unjustly killed by another human being.”

It is all about wealth redistribution and making the American people more dependent on the Federal government for their survival.

Anyone with half a brain should know that burning more fossil fuel is helping to destroy Mother Earth and all her bounties—-clean air and water just to mention the most obvious. Yes, anyone with half a brain should know this, but alas, it seems that only those with half a brain have come to this conclusion. It’s shocking absolutely shocking that Republicans would have a hand in raising taxes—especially taxes that will be funneled directly to Green energy projects. Projects that seldom pan out. Projects that do little but line the pockets of Obama supporters in the alternative energy sector. I’ve heard reports about the soaring price of heating oil and now this on top of that—-well its got to be quite disturbing especially for someone who depends on it to heat their home. But with the closure of so many Coal-powered generating plants we all will bear the burdern of heating and cooling our homes in the near future, not to mention the increase cost of manufacturing and transportation that high electric rates will bring. Higher Energy cost and over-regulation is stifling the economic recovery that should have already occured. Honestly, if the environmentalist had their way we would all be riding bicycles or walking. If the Greens every really come to power they will do away with the fossil fuel industry in this country by simply taxing it out of existence. I’ve always been optomistic about things and although the sun may be setting today I know that tomorrow is a new day and as Hemingway said, “the sun also rises”!

They thought nobody would see what was in the bill because of how big it is. They thought wrong.

no worry about home heating oil that was already in cheap cost and this is not a more rise

I have been told that home heating oil is essentially diesel.
if you have a means of transport, “off road diesel” is available, and likely cheaper as there is no taxes on it. my dad used it in his F-350 for years.
resist. evade. smuggle. we are a nation born from smuggling and every time they raise a tax, we will go back there.

I know somebody who has actually used diesel fuel to heat his home when he was in a pinch and I have been told by a couple of people it is the same as home heating oil.

I have a question. What is a tax on home heating oil doing in the Farm Bill?

Remember the Beatles song “Taxman”? We are following the socialist utopian model that humbled what was once the world’s greatest power on earth, England. And listen to the lyrics in the Kinks song “There Is No England Now” . Sound familiar? On the other hand while it is unconscionable to tax heating oil etc, we shell out $15 for a movie ticket, $10 for a beer at a professional ball game, $5 for a Big Mac and $100 for a jacket with a Northface label along with $200 for sneakers. When do we as individuals turn off the spigot? Who today would have survived the great depression?

I used “Taxman” once in an open thread, it is quite fitting. At some point the people will run out of disposable income and when that happens the economy will tank even more.
