The NSA wants to extend how long it can keep personal phone records

 As we all know by now the NSA is collecting the meta-data of millions of phone calls each and every day. The FISA court requires that these records are destroyed after five years but the Injustice Department has asked that this be extended beyond five years.

The Obama administration asked a federal surveillance court on Wednesday for permission to hold millions of phone records longer than the current five-year limit.

  Why does the Injustice Department this this is necessary? You are not going to believe the answer:

The Justice Department argued that data needs to be maintained as evidence for the slew of privacy lawsuits filed in the wake of the Edward Snowden’s leaks about National Security Agency surveillance. 

  You cannot make this stuff up!

In the filing with the court on Wednesday, the Justice Department said the government has a “duty to preserve” the phone records that overrides other obligations. The government said it would preserve the data in a format that prevents NSA analysts from accessing it.

“The United States must ensure that all potentially relevant evidence is retained,” the Justice Department wrote.

  This appears to be an intentional slap in the face of all those people who are worried about their privacy, not to mention the Constitutional aspects of a secret court issuing bulk warrants in the first place. But do not worry, the NSA will not be able to access it. If that is truly the case what good does this information do?

  This seems to be a warning to those people who do not sit back and accept what the Federal government is doing. In other words, respect our authority. The beatings will continue until moral improves…..
