Rush Limbaugh compares Harry Reid’s ranting against the Koch brothers to Elliot Rodger’s ranting against women

  This post will most likely upset my conservative readers but here goes anyway.

  I am not a fan of Rush Limbaugh. I  sometimes put on his show at lunch just to see what he is saying and  when I do I find that he is either always talking about himself or playing clips from the mainstream media talking about what he said. I find this irritating to say the least because first and foremost I believe he is all about self-promotion and frankly I do not see where he does anything to promote the cause of conservatism, other than to preach to the choir while providing the left with fodder which helps them to win elections.

  On his program today, which I did not listen to, he did it again: he decided to compare Harry Reid’s rantings on the Senate floor against the Koch brothers to the rantings of Elliot Rodger against women before he went on his killing spree last week.

  Here is what he said:

“Can I make another observation?” Limbaugh said. “We’re told we need get sensitive and we need to start recognizing the traits in people like Elliott Rodger so that maybe we can stop them before they act. We have got to see the signs and then when we see the signs, we’ve have to be willing to act on the signs that we are seeing. The tell-tale signs that we might be dealing with someone unbalanced capable of mass murder and violence and we must take steps as a society, as a culture to stop this.”

“We’ll I’m going to tell you somebody we need to keep a sharp eye on – again, this is what the left is telling us,” he continued. “And I think somebody needs to put Harry Reid in a safe and secure place. This obsession he has with the Koch Brothers very much scares me. This irrationality that Harry Reid has with the Koch Brothers – Koch Brothers responsible for global warming, Koch Brothers responsible for everything in politics – the man has the Koch Brothers, this man, Harry Reid hates and resents the Koch Brother every bit as much as Elliott Rodger hated women. I see the signs. I see the irrationality. I see the red flags. The danger signs are clear as a bell with Harry Reid. Somebody needs to do something.”

  I understand that Rush Limbaugh was joking and I understand that he was trying to be provocative and inflame the left at the same time (which admittedly can be fun) but I have to ask these two  questions: what good can come from this statement? How can this be helpful to the conservative cause?

  All this asinine statement did was provide fodder to the left in the upcoming election and the left will use it to tie all conservatives to a man who just compared Harry Reid to a killer. Is this really what we need at this point?

  This is not the first time Rush Limbaugh’s attempt at humor could be detrimental to the conservative cause for who could forget the Sandra Fluke “slut” controversy? Rush Limbaugh was making another lame attempt at humor during this time and what did it accomplish? It did nothing but give the left more ammunition in their war on women angle that ended up being quite successful in the 2012 election. I happen to believe this had a major impact in the election, whether he or conservatives want to admit it or not.

  He eventually apologized for the “slut” comment but not because he felt that he was wrong, but rather because it was hurting his bottom line. He joked about the reaction for days until he began to lose his sponsors and only then did he care about what people were saying.

  Apparently he has not learned from the Fluke fiasco and he has done it again. He has accomplished his goal: he has people talking about what he said and that is all he really cares about. This could adversely affect the upcoming election but people are talking about him and so he is probably laughing as conservatives prepare to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. 

  I understand the point he was trying to make but doing it thusly is not helpful to say the least.
