Chuck Schumer claims Thomas Jefferson wrote the Bill of Rights

June 4, 2014

Chuck Schumer made a little gaffe earlier today when he made the claim that Thomas Jefferson wrote the Bill of Rights, while stating that if he were alive today Thomas Jefferson would agree the first amendment is not absolute.

  Here is what he said:

“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute,” Mr. Schumer said.

Of course we all know that Thomas Jefferson authored the original draft version of the Declaration of Independence, not the Bill of Rights. James Madison is credited with authoring the Bill of Rights. Thomas Jefferson supported the Bill of Rights and was upset that it was not included in the original Constitution but he just happened to be out of the country when the Bill of Rights was introduced.

  To quote Rick Perry: “whoops.”

They cannot wait to dismantle our founding documents. To them, who cares who wrote them. They all have to go, they are such a pain in an authoritarian government.

Looks like, regarding our Rights, Hamilton was right. A BoR did give government the idea that prohibiting them from doing SOME things regarding our Rights, meant they had authority to do ‘other’ things.

Despite the fact that the federal government is delegated NO authority over our Rights, it believes it can DEFINE and REGULATE those Rights.

Yes, Hamilton seems to be right on that one. When people start talking about no right being absolute we should be worried because who defines where the right ends? That would be the Feds of course, and they don’t even seem to know, or care, that the Constitution was supposed to limit what they can do.

Just a very small detail, Laura! Why would that worry them? It is not as if there is anyone that would enforce anything unless it is to their benefit!

        lou,

The only thing they worry about is NOT having control. Feinstein and the new supposed reporter shield legislation. She believes congress has the authority to say who is legitimate press and who isn’t. Her words ‘oh no, I’m not going there’ when defining the ‘press’ that is covered by the 1st – only legitimate, established news organizations – no more 1st amendment protection for Steve, or any other blogger.

I was FURIOUS when I read that. How dare she, or any of them, actually think that they have ANY authority over our Rights!! How dare they actually say any of our Rights are not absolute!

Do not forget that on the committee Babs Boxer is on, when confronted by another on the committee she told him she controlled the gavel and apparently that gave her absolute power over the rest of them! Talk about arrogance! Oh, forgive me “Senator Boxer”!

You nailed it Laura; control is all they are really interested in and if they have to twist the fact to retain it that is exactly what they will do.
Lou, I just read about that Boxer quote earlier today and that really sums up what they are truly interested it–power and control!

The idea that Chuckie Cheese Schumer serves in congress is proof enough that our system is flawed. As for his version of TJ and the BOR, the progressives writing and editing our children and grandchildren’s history books can fix that. As always the victors will write the history.

I am an all night radio listener! There, I said it. I have it on low and listen off and on in between sleeping. Michael Savage is on here until midnight and was talking about Pelosi, Boxer and Feinstein being elected over and over. Why he mentioned it was because of the amounts of votes that suspended State Senator Leland Yee received for Sec of State! Apparently it was not an issue that he might be arrested for questionable behavior! So, guess he, in a round about way was questioning the voting system there that keeps the same people in office time after time. Well, I hate to tell him, but California is not the only state that happens in!! He must not have wanted to say voter fraud. Here in Illinois we keep the same people in office that are taxing us to death. There is hope this time that the Rep. Challenger, Rauner, might actually be able to unseat Gov. Quinn, IF people get out and vote. We have become a sanctuary state for every illegal that can make their way here! I was encouraged that the temporary 67% tax increase was voted down when the Gov. wanted to make it permanent. Guess most of our states having voting issues now.

When Lee can get so many votes it just goes to show you how little people are paying attention, or how little they care about ethical behavior nowadays!

Yeah Peter, if they have their way no history will be taught in the schools because they do not want the next generations to understand how America is supposed to work.
