Jeh Johnson admits some of the illegal immigrant children flooding over the border are being placed with their parents who are also in the country illegally
We all know that the 14th amendment has been interpreted by the Supreme Court to mean that all children born in the United States to parents who are in the country illegally are citizens of the United States. And we also know that thousands of unaccompanied minors are flooding over the border to be reunited with their parents.
If these minors are to be reunited with legal immigrants this policy could be justified, however in sworn testimony today Jeh Johnson admitted this is not always the case. In many instances the children are being reunited with parents who are also in the United States illegally.
Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said Tuesday that the thousands of unaccompanied minors who have been streaming across the U.S. border with Mexico are sometimes being placed with parents or guardians who also are in the U.S. illegally.
Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) asked Johnson at a House Judiciary hearing on the more than 50,000 unaccompanied minors that have come into the country illegally since January if some of those children would be placed with other illegal aliens.
“These kids have come here illegally,” Broun said. “They’ve been lawbreakers already, and you place them with families — and it’s my understanding that some of these families may be illegal themselves, is that correct?”
“I’m sure that’s true in certain circumstances, yes,” Johnson said.
I have no problem with reuniting these families whatsoever, however in these cases the parents should be sent back home to Mexico, or whatever country they originated from, where they can be reunited and continue to function as a family. Once that happens they can then go through the process of coming to the United States legally.
What we’re dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law…..by both sides.
