Afterburner with Bill Whittle: Political Insurance

September 11, 2014

Here is the latest Afterburner video with Bill Whittle entitled ‘Political Insurance.’ In this video he talks about how his insurance company found out he made political videos so they cancelled his insurance.

Apparently because of this he is considered a risk because he could offend somebody and they could sue him so he had to purchase political insurance. Never heard of it? Neither had he; as Bill Whittle says in the video he thought the first amendment was his political insurance. It turns out his free speech is not free, he has to pay a monthly premium for it.

This is another brilliant, albeit sad, video about the state of affairs in the United States.

Big flaw in his argument: the first amendment only protects us from the actions of the government. Now, I will admit I did not watch the whole thing as I stopped watch when he went on the tangent about Ferguson. However, this was a case of a private business refusing to issue him an insurance policy unless he had additional insurance. Unless the government was the one requiring him to have that insurance, his first amendment rights were not violated.

On the other hand, I agree with him that it is a crock of bull snot and it does have the same chilling effect. I could have sworn that the idea that a private business should not allowed to infringe upon one’s rights was a liberal one.

Bill Whittle never fails to amaze me at his ability to cut through the sideshow arguments and get to the core of the issue.
