Open thread for Sunday, October 19th: Bigmouth Strikes Again
Here is the open thread for Sunday, October 19th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we covered another 14 stories here at America’s Watchtower. We had lengthy discussions on several posts this week and between blogging, work, and real life I was not able to participate in as much of the discussion as I would have liked to, which is why I simply “liked” several comments I usually would have responded to.
If I was not able to keep up with my own blog it is likely you were not able to either, did you miss anything? If so there is an easy way to make sure you do not miss another post. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.
In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.
The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?
The Smiths have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame so I have decided to use them for the musical selection of the week, however there are so many great songs by this band that I had trouble deciding which one to post.
In the end I decided to post the song which introduced me to The Smiths. Much like the opening guitar riff to Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ in the ’90’s introduced me to that band, the opening guitar riff of ‘Bigmouth Strikes Again’ introduced me to The Smiths several years earlier.
Enjoy:

I read a good point on one of the other blogs. It said that with sending our troops and National Guard and Reserves out of the country before the election, that alot of times the votes do not get here in time to be counted or are lost in the mail. We have seen it before, so it was a good point. I only hope these people have enough sense to go and vote early, or at least have already voted early. I do not know the cut off date for that, but I think it is past the time to do it now.

That is a very interesting point that I had not thought of but I certainly would not put it passed Obama.

Came across this the other day and thought of you and Open Sunday!
CITIZEN FISH LYRICS
“Wake Up”
You subsidize the cops
It’s your protection from the mob
Described so well in the daily mail
As nothing more than yobs
It’s always been the same
Until there came the day
When a friend of yours was sent to court
For just being in the way
Now you’d march against the uniforms
Your taxes pay to stop you
Except you need permission
And they said they wouldn’t let you
It’s protection for the masses
It’s a war on terror thing
Keep the people in their houses
and they’ll never feel a thing
Put your money where your guilt is
In the bank and in the church
It’s where the love of greed and souls
That need exoneration merge
No more cash when lives are trashed
Just figures on the screen
We’re all in debt learn to accept
The cure for this disease
If we’re all in this together
It’s the shit they’ve put us in
Repeat the lie until they either riot or give in
As disbelief in systems tries to reason with insistence
That the way you think is something to be classified as bad
It will send you down the learning curve
From I accept to I deserve
The time it takes between them
Is the best you’ve ever had
Wake up!

This is probably not something anyone else has had to deal with, but thought I would bring it up, anyway. We have rentals, I have said that in the past, there are about 8 different trash carriers in the area that pick up in different areas of the city. One that we have has been consistently $9 more per 2 months than the others. We just chalked it up to maybe the area being different somehow. When we had new tenants move in this month, I called to make sure of the pickup date and asked about what was covered. I was told by the “old man” that owns the service that we have the “full deal”. I asked what that was, but told him when I ordered it 4 years ago, that we had only had the basic once a week pickup, nothing more, no tote or extra amounts of bags, nothing. He said he would not reimburse us, but changed it quickly to the price the other 4 services we use have been charging us. When I called down to find out at the Civic Center what the deal was, the lady there said that all of them are under the SAME contract and he should NOT have been charging like he was. It had also gone up another dollar, so $10 per 2 months over the other carriers . He also had the habit of trying to double bill, even though I pay it ahead of time and I would be looking at the cancelled check online when I would talk to him. He would want proof. This time, when he billed for 4 months, he wanted proof, but I told him no, not this time, I told him to check HIS records. Half the time he cannot get our name correct, either. My point is that this man has done this to many people and it may not sound like alot, but over 4 years and 6 times per year at $10 over charge, that adds up and times how many people. The lady at the Civic Center asked if I would fill out paperwork and mail back to her, he had been in court 2 times already this year for the same thing. I did and she said I might be called to testify, which would be great. She said during the same week I called, 2 other people called in with the same complaint of over charging, she sent the papers to them but they did NOT send them back. My point, after being long winded, is that if MORE people took the time to hold people accountable for their actions, this kind of crap would not go on. There, I finally got it out!

Yeah, too often people just accept what they are told and do not fight back. That is the worse thing a person can do and I am glad it might work out for you.
