Harry Reid considers extending the lame-duck Senate session

December 1, 2014

happy_harry_reid As the voters made clear last November the American people have rejected Barack Obama’ agenda and they made it perfectly clear when they voted to put the Republicans in the majority in the Senate.

Many of us have stated that we must pay close attention to the lame-duck Senate session because the Democrats will try to ram through as much legislation as they can before the give up their hold on the upper chamber. Now Harry Reid is floating the possibility of extending the lame-duck Senate by one week in order to do just that.

Here is what he said earlier today:

“We may have to be here a third week and everyone should understand that,” Reid said, adding that the most important task at hand is to pass funding bills to keep the government open.

“We have a lot to do, and there isn’t much time to accomplish it,” he said. “I urge all senators to work hard to complete our work in a timely and efficient fashion. We may have to be here the week before Christmas and hopefully, Mr. President, not into the Christmas holiday, but there are things we have to get done.”

It looks to me as if some people are not ready to give up power just yet and as predicted they will do anything to ram through as much as possible, not caring about the message the voters sent them.

But when you think about it why would the Senate have to extend its session to pass legislation when Barack Obama can simply issue more Executive Proclamations to pass the laws on his own which the Senate does not get to?

I think Harry should use the lame duck time to take all of Senate Democrats on a junket to Sierra Leon to see how Obama’s war on Ebola is going.

I didn’t know that option even existed, (holding on to your seat past the allotted time) however if it does I would think that to actually apply it would require some kind of extenuating circumstances.. which not doing your job in time doesn’t apply.. And if congress can hold off transfer of power, can the president to the same?

The Constitution says the Congress must meet at least once a year but it does not say how long that meeting can or must be so I don’t think there is anything technically wrong with this.

As I said before, there is a battle royal going on as to agreeing to a CR for a few months or an Omnibus spending bill that would carry over to September 2015 and would preclude any bills to slow down anything. Looks like the omnibus is winning out. They are trying to keep Senator Sessions from Senate Chair of the Budget committee. if he loses, then we have lost. Sorry to repeat myself. 🙂

It is an interesting battle playing out over this and don’t worry about repeating yourself! 🙂
