Samsung warning: new smart televisions may transmit personal information to a third party
You may consider this to be tinfoil hat material but I find it to be troubling to say the least. Samsung’s new smart televisions allow people to enable a voice command feature which enables a person to interact with the television verbally.
That sounds great on the surface but it come with a warning from Samsung:
You can control your SmartTV, and use many of its features, with voice commands. If you enable Voice Recognition, you can interact with your Smart TV using your voice. To provide you the Voice Recognition feature, some voice commands may be transmitted (along with information about your device, including device identifiers) to a third-party service that converts speech to text or to the extent necessary to provide the Voice Recognition features to you. In addition, Samsung may collect and your device may capture voice commands and associated texts so that we can provide you with Voice Recognition features and evaluate and improve the features.Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party through your use of Voice Recognition.
You would think that in order to use the voice commands you must first push a button on the remote before making the command but this warning makes it sound as if there is more to it than that. You would think that only certain commands would be recognized by the television but according to this warning it appears as if that is not the case. Why the need for the warning if this was the case and why the need for a third party in the first place? The implication is clear; do not talk about your personal information while sitting in your living room if you have enabled voice commands.
But the question I have is this: what is to stop a third party, either the third party Samsung uses or oh I don’t know maybe the Government, from activating the voice command unbeknownst to the user even if you have not enabled the voice command feature?
This might seem far-fetched but we know the NSA is collecting the metadata on virtually every single phone call in the United States without a warrant so what is to stop them from collecting data in this instance?
It seems like the next logical step in the complete surveillance state which seems to be incrementally building within the United States…

One thing I’ve gotten used to is that if someone can use something to screw us and invade our privacy, they will.
I don’t care if it’s targeted advertising based on my browsing habits (I make a point to boycott anyone who uses it.) or if it’s our government making sure our dossiers are complete. If they can use it, they will and they don’t care if we like it or not.

I agree with you 100%! There is no doubt in my mind that this will be used against us and it is very telling that Samsung issued this statement because it tells me they are aware of the peril.

Agree Completely! What I want to know is if they are ADMITTING to this much of a breach in our privacy, what are they NOT telling us? Can they watch us? Some are saying that yes, they can. I’m not sure if I buy that YET, but if it isn’t already happening, it will!

Data mining is a big biz these day – a gold/silver mine! Of course all these things will be ‘used’ against us ‘people of the world’. The ‘third-party world Gov.’ It won’t matter where a person lives (Country/Nation) because the same ‘intrusion’ will be established. Not one company is worse than the other, or less, because they’ll all be united in the System, some way. My brother was stating that the smart meters might be used to simulate a grid close down – since they’re suppose to be able to turn off certain appliances or regulate usage! (Then blame some other country that they want to forge ahead on the War-O-Mania.
When we think about this, we ‘see’ a god complex coming about, reminding me of the verse: “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” Isaiah 14:14 All seeing, all knowing, all powerful etc.
But, the next verse is worth noting too: Isa 14:15 “Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” So, bad news – Good News!

While all this technology makes our lives easier it comes at a high price that most people are not aware of. Even though I have the GPS in my phone shut off it still knows where I am and puts ads on the internet based on my location. This is done through the Wifi, even if you are on Wifi you can be tracked.

They only want to protect you Steve … know where you are every moment, to keep you SAFE! like a good parent should!
Since some people don’t carry their phones around with them all the time, that’s where the ‘chip’ comes in. For those people who take that out, there’s where the DNA & voice etc. come to play. That’s what I mean about wanting to be the all power and wonderful Oz. You’d think those behind this would have something better to do w/ their time and energy, but it’s an obsession: Pinky & the Brain!

Yes, this is for our own good and we are just too stupid to understand. That is how they view us, and they long for the day when we will simply be their children obeying every order thrown at us for our own good.
