Is Bill de Blasio secretly preparing a 2016 Presidential run?

April 21, 2015

US-ELECTION-NYC-MAYORUp to this point in time Hillary Clinton is virtually running alone for the Democratic nomination to become the next President of the United States, sure Martin O’Malley is in the race but I do not think that very many people consider him to be a viable option to the former Secretary of State.

With potential problems on the horizon, and with the reports that some Democratic insiders are very worried about Hillary Clinton and her baggage many of us have been wondering how Democrats could support such a flawed candidate. Surely there has to be preparations being made in case Hillary Clinton’s campaign implodes or in case The Clinton Foundation’s acceptance of foreign money becomes a campaign issue.

Not all Democrats are sold on Hillary Clinton and that is evidenced by the “draft Warren” movement within the far left of the party and now according to this story Bill de Blasio is working behind the scenes to create a “draft de Blasio” movement.

  Here is more:

Despite repeated claims to the contrary, Mayor Bill de Blasio is positioning himself to be the leftist “progressive” alternative to Wall Street-friendly Hillary Rodham Clinton as the Democratic candidate for president, a national party operative told The Post.

De Blasio’s hope, the operative said, is a “Draft de Blasio’’ movement will develop among progressive activists over the next several months that will lead to the mayor being able to defeat Clinton in the primary elections next year in much the same way leftist Sen. George McGovern successfully challenged the initially front-running establishment Democratic candidate, Sen. Edmund Muskie, more than 40 years ago.

If Mayor de Blasio wants to run why doesn’t he just come out and declare his candidacy? Why does he feel he has to work in secret? I guess he feels that by making it appear as if he does not want to run he can build up momentum with those who are seeking an alternative by creating what appears to be grassroots effort, but is it really a grassroots effort if the mayor is behind it in the first place? It seems like backward thinking to me and I wonder if it is possible that no potential big name Democratic candidate wants to be the first one to come out and challenge Hillary Clinton.

In the end I do not believe Hillary Clinton and Martin O’Malley will be the only Democratic candidates, I fully expect Elizabeth Warren to jump into the race, and once the first big name candidate enters the fray I expect others to follow.

At least I hope so if for no other reason than it will make the Democratic primary a little more interesting even if Mrs. Clinton is the eventual nominee.

It has been bad enough having the Obama extended family in our White House, I can only imagine having the dysfunctional DeBlasio family there. It should be interesting seeing the field of candidates they bring forward.
