Open thread for Sunday, May 31st: ‘Tupelo’
Here is the open thread for Sunday, May 31st. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we covered 11 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!
Now on to my number three favorite band of all time: Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. There really is no other band which sounds like this one in my opinion. Nick Cave has two distinct sounds; he can sit down at the piano and sing a ballad but he has a heavier, violent side which is still unique from all others.
I had trouble whittling this down to seven videos but seeing as how I have already used him in several open threads I decided not to use songs I have already used before so that made it slightly easier. I decided to start with a ballad and then to get increasingly heavier as the songs continue.

And lastly is a song called “Tupelo.” This song is interesting because Nick Cave takes on the persona of an old school hell and brim fire preacher warning people the beast has descended upon Tupelo and he prophecizes about a coming king. But in this case the king he is talking about is the king of rock and roll–Elvis.

Ok, here is my #1 group of all times! I just got the grandkids off to their other grandparents and have the house back to myself and the mister, that means I do not have a 2 year old wanting “up” every time I sit down at the computer….I actually MISS that, being the softy I am with them.
The Moody Blues is my pick. Along with the Eagles, they are a group I want to see before I die. I know they are not heavy metal, but you will have to admit they have great songs! The main members at this time are Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Graeme Edge, Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder. there were 2 others from early on. They started out back in 1965 and are touring today. I guess you could call them Rock, but they have an orchestra woven into their songs, as well. The first song is one I listened to when I was getting ready to take EMT tests, along with Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life…here is Your Wildest Dreams:

Since this is my last posting of the Top 10 groups…I have to do one bonus song. This will give you an idea of who I was from the start in songs on 45’s. It is in the #1 spot on the Seeburg jukebox we gave our son, I told him it had to be there…he complied! Finally the wait is over! The Moody Blues have some great songs and it looks like they put on a great show, I hope you finally get to see them. I also know 96 Tears but I did not know who did it.

That is that one song that sticks in my head and takes me back YEARS! It is not a particularly good song, but one with a catchy tune.

It’s funny but there are some songs that I hear on the radio and it instantly brings me back to a particular time in my youth. Interesting how music can do that.

None of it is a surprise to me. We know something is going to happen. You would think they would transport this stuff at night or in the covered train cars, but guess they have nothing to lose doing it this way. I do not have an explanation for the refer trucks, but your guess is a good one.

Some even died. So it’s not coincidence that there were that many B. B. trucks in the convoy. Instead of hauling ice cream, the gov. has another purpose for them. Why would the military need ‘refrigerated trucks?’ don’t they have their own? That is the concern of many.
