CNN anchor calls Dallas Police Department shooter ‘courageous and brave’
Early this morning a gunman opened fire on a Dallas Police Department and it is also being reported he planted bombs outside the facility. Thankfully nobody was hurt in the attack but the gunman was eventually shot and killed by a sniper who fired through the windshield of the van he was sitting in while it was parked.
It is being speculated that this man did not act alone and during an interview with a legal analyst CNN host Fredricka Whitfield used some interesting language to describe the shooter. Here is what she had to say:
“It was very courageous and brave, if not crazy as well, to open fire on the police headquarters, and now you have this scene, this standoff. So you believe these are the hallmarks of more than one person’s involvement.”
It is quite possible she simply misspoke or used the wrong words to describe the shooter and I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt, however that was an odd description to say the least. I find it hard to believe these words just came off the top of her head–I am inclined to believe this is how she really feels because it does not seem like a mistake which somebody would make. Either she believes what she said or she was woefully unprepared for the interview.
There is a huge anti-police feeling sweeping the nation at this point in time with all the recent incidences between the police and the people and it seems as if she was trying to play into it.

It has become common to see this type of comment from some people. All they need do is back off by saying they were misunderstood or they misspoke and all is forgiven. I still stand with the knowledge that once it is said, it is kind of hard to take anything back, but that might just be me. I tend to pick and choose my words wisely so they are NOT taken wrong, still sometimes the written word is. However, to go on tv and say it, pretty much leaves no doubt as to what you really mean when you can see the body language, as well. Some people have little common sense and don’t know when to just shut the hell up, you know?

Now she is claiming she misspoke but she did not apologize. I think she said how she was really feeling and she did not expect the uproar because she probably feels most of her audience feels the same way.

I agree with you for most people in most situations. I reserve some understanding and forgiveness for those people, like me – especially since the stroke, whose words don’t always represent what their mind is thinking.
Like this comment, I spent several minutes thinking about what I wanted to say, typing, deleting, and retyping. Many times my lips can’t keep up with the speed of my brain…and vice versa, lol. 🙂
However, people in the media, people constantly in the public eye (politicians, celebrities, public officials, etc.) are different. They do not get this leeway from me. If someone like that truly does misspeak, they should sincerely apologize, and strive to not to it again. Their words carry much more weight than the average person, they need to understand this, and accept this higher standard for their words and behavior.

I agree Laura; if two people are having a conversation and somebody says something that does not come out right that is one thing and should be forgiven. This is different because this was not an off the cuff remark in my opinion, the only thing she regrets is she slipped and let her true feeling out on the air.
