Open thread for Sunday, July 12th: ‘Here Without You’
Here is the open thread for Sunday, July 12th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we covered another 8 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.
In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.
The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!
Before I get to the musical selection of the week I wanted to share a little exciting news with all of you: last week America’s Watchtower was honored by Cry and Howl with a 2015 Top Twenty Conservative Blog Award! Cry and Howl is a great blog which you should all check out and I would like to publicly say thank you for the honor.
This award does not belong to me alone, it also belongs to all of you. There have been many times when I have wondered if I should keep on going because at times it gets frustrating to see that all of the hard work is not paying off with the political results we all hope to see. However it is because of the readers who keep coming here day in and day out that I have made it through the dark days and I would like to thank each and every one of you for being so loyal.
The reason I selected “Here Without You” by 3 Doors Down for the musical selection this week is because today I was scheduled to jump in the company van and haul it 11 hours to Virginia to start a week long project far away from home. The project has been delayed until at least Tuesday (and I may end up being away for two weeks) and it is possible I will not be leaving until next weekend, but I will be going at some point.
Regular readers know how important my family is to me and to be away from them for a week or more is not easy for me, I will miss them dearly. I dedicate this song to my wife Lauri–she is my love, my life, my best friend, my rock, and my foundation.
I’m here without you baby
But you’re still on my lonely mind.
I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time.
I’m here without you baby
But you’re still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl, it’s only you and me.
Everything I know, and anywhere I go,
It gets hard but it won’t take away my love.
There is quite a bit of work to be done when I do get out there and I may be working long hours to meet the schedule so I am not sure how regular my posting will be when I am gone but I will still try to post as often as possible.
Hello Steve with most of the 20 I have crossed path… the right path certainly.
The only way that could vote for all of you it is to be democrat so I could vote few times lol.

SDL, you are in trouble now, posting that video! However, now you are talking with the second video!!!

Well, both of those videos were very interesting to say the least! The first one might not have been politically correct but sometimes the truth is not! I really enjoyed the second one, it was very well done.

Hey Steve! Thank you again for mentioning ol’ Cry and Howl! Here’s something I put on Youtube about 7 years ago. Enjoy your Sunday!

I will read your post, Steve and listen to what others have posted AFTER I post this!
I brought up Lucianne.com and read an article earlier, I want to post and get feed back on….This is about a July 4th killing in a subway during the day…it resulted in a misdemeanor assault charge, but the victim was murdered for a cell phone and there was theft of other passengers involved. I did not read about this on the 5th or the 6th, unless you posted it and I was “off” somewhere else, Steve. How can someone, with witnesses and video tape of this happening walk away with a lower sentence of MISDEMEANOR ASSAULT???? Only in American, it appears….read this and tell me what you all think of this:

Very disturbing Lou and this is the first I have heard of it. How he gets off without a murder charge is beyond me!

Victim white, alleged attacker is black. Now how he could be “alleged” with witnesses AND video, I have no idea….but nothing surprises me anymore with the way this world is so screwed up. How many witnesses does it take to become NOT an alleged attacker, but an actual attacker??? No, really, what is your best guess!!!!? He not only got off without a murder charge, but walked out of the police station.

I think we all know what the outcry would have been like if this were a white person who murdered a black person…

Steve, you do what you got to do and if going 11 hours away and still hold down a respectable job is what they ask you to do, then you do it. Unlike some people that just walk out to the mailbox to get that check OR have money deposited at the first of the month on their LINK card….guess that is what sets you/us apart from the bottom feeders. Lauri is one lucky lady to have you in her life, I know you probably think you are the only lucky one, haha! We will hold down the fort, as we always do, just throw us a bone now and then while you are gone and we will run with it. I saw you were on “the list”, at least it is a GOOD list and not one that none of us want to be on, right? You may see alot of OT posts, but then again a post is a post, so overlook it if we wing it! Have a safe trip!

Yeah, Lauri does think she is the lucky one but I know the truth! I would be nothing without her! We share a bond and we have been with each other so long that we do not really even remember our lives before we were together.
At least I will be raking in some OT money before we go on vacation next month so there is a bright side.
I could be leaving as early as Tuesday and I will probably leave another open post for you guys to post to with whatever comes up in the event I am not posting and I know you guys will keep it going! Most likely I will be able to post during my absence but you never know.

It’ll be alright! Last time I checked we were all adults here, except for a few trolls, but never mind them. Go do your job and think of all that extra cash that You will be earning for Obama with your OT!

Yay! What-a-go Steve! Thanks for including us too, but you ‘built it’!

Yes, but to quote a famous movie: “if you build it they will come” and that is the truth. If I built this and you guys did not come it would be nothing.

Congrats Steve on your award. At least you still have a job which is more than I can say thanks to Obama and his Obamacare nonsense. Keep up the good blogging, and let us keep on going until they pry our keyboards from our cold dead hands.

I hate the fact that this has happened to you , Bunker. Just think how many others Obama has done the same to! He is going to price all of us middle classers right into the poor house. Now, that wouldn’t be his objective, would it? We just cannot seem to make enough anymore to pay the bills, but he sure skims off what he wants, doesn’t he?
And yes, we will have our say until they take that ability away from us.

Thanks Bunkerville and I feel for your situation, thankfully for me I am one of the lucky ones who have not been hit by either the downturn in the economy or Obama’s policies.

Appropriate song for your thoughts Steve to have to be away from home and Lauri – holding the Fort and keeping the Home Fires Burning. Safe time to you and hope it goes well.
Be home soon.

You gotta love the songs from Joe…but every time I think of him, I think of John Belushi playing him on SNL…it was classic.

Lauri, my hubby has been gone since July 19th to Alaska salmon fishing, panning for gold, site seeing, it is a “bucket list” thing for him. I expect him to be gone another month. I think maybe when they DO come home you appreciate them more. So much of the stuff I am having to do (we have lots of rentals), he does, so I am picking up the slack. Yard work, little stuff that needs taken care of that he does automatically, you get the picture…yep, I am appreciating him a bit more after a month. Steve will be back, he knows a good thing after all the years you have been married, besides he will have to bring his dirty laundry home, right? Take care of you! If it is any comfort, we miss him here, too!
