Open thread: ‘Awake and Alive’
October 30, 2015
Well, the surgery was a success, the surgeon said it could not possibly have gone better, and I am actually home now a couple of days early. I am in pain, tired, and on drugs so there is no way I will be posting for a few days, but I am “Awake and Alive” and will resume posting when I can.

Such good news. We go to a yearly trailer rally called the TGINDY Rally hosted by a young guy who saw the light after a heart attack. But he came back. Thank God I’m Not Dead Yet. We’ll make you an honorary member..

P.S. Drugs are a wonderful thing, aren’t they? IF you post, we will not hold you responsible for what you say for awhile 🙂

Not sure if anyone had read this or not….BUT, you know how on different screens they are offering to download Windows 10 for free? Well, read the article and see how badly you might want Windows 10. I went to my start button and typed in “Windows update” and clicked on Change settings…I selected to have them ask me if I want to download and then ca deny Windows 10, but I bet most of us have the automatic updates checked. Then you can view your history to see if it has done it already. Guess their offer has started to become downloading it without us knowing it. Read the article below and see if you want Micro Soft to be able to do this:

I’d kill it or uninstall it. I was one of the early freebies, so I tried it. A lot of the Windows 7 stuff that I like was only available as an extra option that you have to pay for.
I spent about half an hour mousing around to see what was what and hit the uninstall button. I’m running Windows 7 again. I’ve blocked every automated upload since. There’s a check box on the update menu for Windows 10, but it’s default is ON. You’ll find it under the “Optional” tab. You have to manually kill it every time you update or it will upload and probably self install. Mine seems to have finally quit, but it took a while and multiple times shutting it off.
The spirit of Bill Gates lives on. It’s the same avaricious mentality as a heroin dealer.
I got an email asking why I’d uninstalled Windows 10 and told them I hated their whole setup so much that I was looking around for non Windows operating systems and I certainly wouldn’t have Windows on my next computer. This computer for that matter when they stop supporting Windows 7.

That is exactly what I thought too. I set to having to ask me before downloading anything. After I read what they will do with it, I will stick to 7 as well. That is why I did not get a new computer when this one was throwing craps on me, had it put back to factory specs with 7 on it.

I spent several hours downloading and installing Windows 10. When it was up and running, within a minute of turning on my laptop, my desktop and taskbar disappeared – nothing but a black screen. The only thing I could do was control/alt/delete and restart. I spent about an hour looking for a solution online, then ‘reverted’ back to Windows 7. Thank goodness I had that option.
I was supremely disappointed.

Until they force us to take it, I am not going to mess with Windows 10, it sounds like it is not good for us. Sorry you had that much trouble with it, Laura.

I’ve heard that it was a mega spy program and that’s why it’s free. Agree w/ Dr. Jeff.

Yay Steve! So glad to hear. THANKS for letting us know – who didn’t!! Lovely news! What a relief I’m sure to have that taken care of and now on the mend. I don’t think you’ll be doing Brit’s Bird song dance, but that’s OK! Peace of heart and mind while your body heals! God’s Best to you and yours!

Well, I am feeling a little better this morning with less pain and it felt good to sleep in my own bed. Still don’t feel like following the news yet but I know I will get back into it at some point shortly.

Your own bed ALWAYS feels better than a hospital bed, that is for sure. As for the news, it is just more of the same, so you have not really missed much.

It sure does feel good sleeping at home, plus they aren’t waking me up every two hours although I am still not sleeping well at night because I doze off to often during the day.
I have browsed the headlines and it doesn’t look like too much has changed.

Like I said before, it is just more of the same.
I know when I am sick and that is rare, I tend to doze during the day and have a hard time at night that is probably what you are going thru. I get up on average 3 or 4 times a night and wander around, look out the window or read and post…that is just my system, I guess. IF I sleep thru the night and wake up, I think something is wrong with me, haha! As for them waking you up at night, they have to do it, but that doesn’t make it any easier…..they just want to make sure you are ok. Nurses get a bum rap for that sometimes, as do alot of the other medical people, but they have a job to do and that is to make sure nothing happens to you. 🙂

It was a good commercial, we should have catchy ones here! That is the song along with Disco Inferno I used to walk to, both up beat and fast.

Good morning SDL. We got that extra hour of sleep this morning, but I was up anyway…however it is light out now. Yesterday I went down to my brothers, who has Parkinsons, for a seminar. I was up at 3:30 am and had to leave by 5am, it was dark and raining the whole way. The lights glare and I had sinus going on, so it was not the usual fun drive…plus driving a little black Miata in the dark and rain, I was the one having to watch out for ME, the trucks probably did not see me. It was that way all day and it was dark when I came home, so my eyes are tired, even this morning. Now you watch, today will be sunny and clear, haha! That is usually how my luck goes. We did get alot of information about his Parkinsons, our Pop had it and I have a higher chance of it, myself, since my brother has it. I do not know if my middle brother would be getting it, he is gone, but he was 3 years older than me and the older one 8 1/2 Always good to know what might be coming around the corner….on a positive note, we ate at a GREAT Mexican restaurant for lunch that I will want to go back to next trip down there.

Woke up this morning with less pain, so that was good because I intend to give up the Oxy, I don’t like it at all but it takes away the pain. Will switch over to Tylenol unless the pain gets worse.
Haven’t had any pain med since about 8:00 last night and only have a little pain. Still not sleeping well at night because I doze off during the day but today we have Red Zone and Fantasy Football so maybe that will help! Slowly but surely I think I am getting better but I still have a long way to go.

Ya, you don’t want to take something strong if less will do. Tylenol doe nothing for me, but Advil does, so I stick with that one. Imagine they want you to stay clear of aspirin or NSAIDS after your surgery Imagine that the beer and whisky are out, too. You had major surgery, you are going to feel like crap for awhile, but I would guess you are a fighter and not a complainer, so you will be moving faster than most people would. This is your time to relax, however and not over do it.

Yeah, I like Advil as well but I cannot have it so I will have to make due. But at least I don’t need the Oxy, that is a plus.
No beer either!

Some of the old sayings are the best….sometimes I was not sure what they meant,….like “My stars and garters” and “By George” that my Grandad used to say….hmmm!

Yes Lou, they were good because they conveyed wisdom. My mother was diagnosed with cancer at 90, and went through 4 opened chest operations and repeated that saying after each one.

Thankfully I still have insurance…we will see what surprises are coming yet though.

Our insurance is going up on the monthly premium AND with less coverage….guess they need to do that so we can pay for some low life that will not work, but wants the best of care….isn’t it wonderful living in America now? We are wondering what our cost will be for the hubbys surgery….good luck on yours!

We just had our insurance renewed last month for the year and while the price went up we actually kept the same insurance two years in a row so hopefully this should make for a smooth transition with the surgery. I was dreading changing in the middle of it!

I understand that. I know alot of people that are having to switch and have difficulty on who will pay for what. I am assuming that none of our premiums will go down.

Feeling pretty good this morning but I still am not sleeping hardly at all. I started to read a little news this morning but I am having trouble getting comfortable while reading, it puts pressure on my sutures, so that makes it hard to concentrate.
Hopefully I will be back at it in a couple of days or so.

Guess because you are laying around you really are not tired…once you get up moving and doing stuff, hopefully that will be better for you….is the pain tolerable now with only Tylenol?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, I guess it is not being tired as much as being bored and unable to do what I want to. The pain is not too bad at all, the Tylenol is fine but I still can’t get a good night’s sleep.

I figured that is what it is, too. Once you get up and around I bet your whole system will go back to normal. Don’t push it, enjoy the down time….you know how we “wish” sometimes we could just do NOTHING? Well, you have a forced NOTHING, for now.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I guess I did push it a little to much yesterday. We went to Walmart to get some stuff but I could only make it about ten minutes before I realized I needed to take it even slower. I will never wish for NOTHING to do again! 🙂

Look at it this way, you have a reason to use one of those sweet motorized carts when you go to Walmart. Just try not to hit those end-caps.

I know when kids have concussions they are told not to try and focus and to just let the mind rest. You have been through a lot so perhaps not surprising that it is hard for you. Dr. Bunker here!

That makes sense Bunkerville, just observe and not focus until all the faculties come back but it sure is hard to do! 🙂
