The New Hampshire Union Leader endorses Chris Christie

November 29, 2015

New Hampshire’s largest and most influential conservative newspaper is The Union Leader and as such it is always a much sought after endorsement for Republican candidates who are running for office, both on the state and the national level.

Today The Union Leader finally endorsed a candidate in the Presidential race and it come as a bit of a shock. While taking a shot at Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Donald Trump the newspaper endorsed a man with fading Presidential aspirations–Chris Christie.

Here is some of what the newspaper had to say in its endorsement:

Our choice is Gov. Chris Christie. As a U.S. attorney and then a big-state governor, he is the one candidate who has the range and type of experience the nation desperately needs.

We don’t need another fast-talking, well-meaning freshman U.S. senator trying to run the government. We are still seeing the disastrous effects of the last such choice.

That last sentence was obviously a shot at Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, but here is more:

Chris Christie is a solid, pro-life conservative who has managed to govern in liberal New Jersey, face down the big public unions, and win a second term. Gov. Christie can work across the aisle, but he won’t get rolled by the bureaucrats. We don’t need as President some well-meaning person from the private sector who has no public experience.
Gov. Christie is right for these dangerous times. He has prosecuted terrorists and dealt admirably with major disasters. But the one reason he may be best-suited to lead during these times is because he tells it like it is and isn’t shy about it.

And then comes the shot at Donald Trump:

Other candidates have gained public and media attention by speaking bluntly. But it’s important when you are telling it like it is to actually know what you are talking about. Gov. Christie knows what he is saying because he has experienced it. And unlike some others, he believes in what he says because he has a strong set of conservative values.
Gov. Chris Christie is exactly the conservative Republican needed to take the fight to Hillary Clinton next fall and then get about the serious business of defending us and rebuilding our economy.

I understand what the newspaper is getting at: in a perfect world a person with executive experience and not someone with merely legislative experience, or someone who is known mostly as a blowhard, would be preferred as a Presidential candidate. But Chris Christie? Really?

As a lifelong NJ conservative is still hard to forget CC’s ass kissing lip lock with Barry Mohammed Bin Obama on the NJ beach after hurricane Sandy. Still three years later after swapping spit with the destroyer NJ Shore residents are still suffering so other than an infamously negative photo-op the fat man gained no advantage. And our property taxes, the highest in the nation, are still the highest in the nation. Politicians; ya can’t live with em and you can’t live with em. It is irrelevant though since the two party’s elites have already chosen Hillary as the winner. Hey, anyone who can lie before congress for 11 hours and hang them out to dry probably deserves to win and finish what Obama didn’t have the balls to do: rip up the constitution.
    I predict:
    Hillary 2016
    Chelsea 2024
Malia or Cory Booker 2032- unless we are finished before.

I still remember the hug heard ’round the world as well, he handed Obama the victory that day.
Booker in 2032? That is a new prediction isn’t it?

Women and blacks only need apply will be the mantra of the left and Booker is black, tall, good looking, connected and very corrupt so he fits the bill perfectly. This is the new America, our America is dead and gone once Clinton takes office.

I believe that Booker is also gay, however he refuses to say one way or the other. That would be another plus, right?

        Anyone look at this website?

I hadn’t heard that before Lou but it would certainly be a plus.

They have only been right twice since 1976 in picking Presidential nominee according to Fox. Some solace.

I wonder if they have any pull with or over the Electoral System. Another ‘thing’ that makes me question if our votes really mean that much – esp. when the Electors can do as they will!

There is some talk about them trying to wrestle this away from Trump in the convention and I would not put it passed them in the least!
