New poll shows Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in a dead heat
Some of Donald Trump’s primary opponents, most notably Jeb Bush, have tried to make the claim that the billionaire businessman should not be the Republican nominee because there is no way he can beat Hillary Clinton in the general election, however a new Rasmussen poll shows otherwise. This latest poll has Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in a virtual tie.

Presidential frontrunners Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump remain all tied up in a hypothetical matchup heading into 2016.
If the 2016 presidential election was held today, 37% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for Clinton, while 36% would vote for Trump. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that a sizable 22% would choose some other candidate, while five percent (5%) are undecided.
With 22% of the people saying they would vote third party if this is the matchup it will be interesting to see if this persuades a candidate to mount a third party run which potentially could have an impact in the election: there are rumors the Republican party would run a third party candidate if Donald Trump is the nominee, and there are also rumors sometime Republican/sometime Democrat Jim Webb is considering a third party candidacy. And of course Bernie Sanders is upset with the DNC because he believes they planted a mole in his campaign staff in order to protect Hillary Clinton and sabotage his campaign. Could he possibly decide to run as an independent?
And then there is this little tidbit from the new poll which I find very interesting:
Seven percent (7%) of Republicans prefer Clinton in a matchup with Trump; 12% of Democrats opt for Trump if those are their choices.
When we are talking about voters jumping to the other party because they prefer that candidate to their own declared party’s candidate I find 7% and 12% to be fairly large numbers. During the last two Presidential elections conservatives stayed home rather than vote for the respective Republican nominees, but to actually go to the polls and vote for the other candidate seems extreme to me. How many Republicans cast their votes for Barack Obama because they did not like Mitt Romney or John McCain? I would say very few. If these numbers hold true, and this is not just an idle threat, and you couple that with 22% who would choose a third party candidate and I think the whole election could be thrown up into the air.

My opinion of Clinton is that she is rather boring and I cannot stand to hear her talking. She is neither the most intelligent woman in the world nor the only one that can save this country. She is pure EVIL! People can say what they like about Trump, but he has the countries best interest at heart and when he says something he doesn’t have to take it back or cover it up or say he misspoke. Clinton says plenty and most of it is not true. I do not trust her and I believe she will be the last stabbing wound that takes this country out after Obama gets in his last jabs.

I want to point out a very important piece of history.
Check the numbers, if it weren’t for Ross Perot, Bush Senior would have had a second term as President and Bill Clinton would only be the former Governor or Arkansas. Perot took a lot of votes that would have been Bush’s and Bill Clinton won because of it. It’s as simple as that.
Anyone who breaks with his/her party and splits the vote, virtually assures that the other side will win.
I understand the arguments against Donald Trump very well. A demagogue in the White House could have some very bad effects. On the other hand, imagine 8 years, or even 4 years of President Hilary.
Before the convention, vote your conscience. After the convention, vote for the Republican candidate, whether it’s Cruz, Trump, Rubio, Carson or even (God help us) Jeb Bush.
That’s the political reality we face. The only path to certain destruction is letting the GOP get split and your vote diluted. Vote for the winner of the Republican convention, even if you have to hold your nose.

I think the Republican Party needs a wake up call. They just keep parading around tired old candidates with tired old thoughts rather than recognizing a need for real conservatism. I think once we get close to the general election Trump won’t stand a chance. The only hope for this election is Cruz or Rubio and I am uninspired by both of them.

I won’t vote for Cruz or Rubio – neither one is a Natural Born Citizen.
I refuse to reward the illegal and unconstitutional behavior of the republican party. I don’t support them anyway. They are no better than the democrats.
If anyone but Trump or Carson is the nominee, I just won’t vote.
I won’t compromise my very essence.
The republicans are traitors, betrayers, liars, Constitution violators, and corrupt to the core.
If we continue to allow those criminals to control us, the government, and the Country, we are doomed.

I can understand how you feel about NOT voting. I just do not see Carson being in the race until we vote. He is a gentle man, but I do not feel is is qualified to be President. I do think that Trump is in it for the long haul. Clinton seems to think that she is entitled to the White House. Now, if you ask me WHO IS? What does it take to be Presidential, I would have to say, at this point I am really not sure anymore. This whole mess has skewered what I believe and what I thought I believed….they are becoming 2 different things. What once was rock solid is anything but that now. Then you have ones saying they will split the vote and run a 3rd party….that opens up another can of worms, right there. What once was just a matter of going and voting your conscience has so much more we have to base that vote on now.
So, yes, I understand why you would stick to your principles and say enough is enough and not vote. I do have to wonder how many others have just had “enough” and feel that way?

I don’t think Carson is a good choice. I only mentioned him because he is up there in the polling – although his numbers are falling, I think – and I would vote for him if he were the nominee.

@lou222 and Laura, I have been so disillusioned by the Republican Party over the last several decades that I now view my vote as a statement. I am convinced that someone is watching the ballot numbers for third party candidates to determine the future direction of the Republican Party. If there isn’t a true conservative running as the Republican candidate, then I am convinced we will have another four years of liberal leadership, and I will either vote 3rd party or write in a name that represents ideals that aren’t on the current ticket.

SD, The Republican Party is not what it once was, they have been infiltrated by some that “appear” to be Republicans, but are there to do the most damage they can, all while having a smile on their faces. People have looked the other way for so long, no one wants to get involved and no one wants to cry foul. We have been fed crap from the left and see the right not doing anything, as if they COULD NOT do anything. I cannot believe they have no power, but hey they tried…..I get so tired of hearing that. Then we have the bi-partisan votes, we all know that if the left were still in control there would be none of that going on…but, look how great the Republicans are to want to work together. We get a pat on the back and then the stab in the back follows. What did we elect? What happens when they get to DC? Something in the water? I know we have to do the best we can with what we have to work with, but it sure seems like there isn’t much there. Is it any wonder that people either will split off to a 3rd party or just plain not vote? I don’t think I need to even answer that one.
I also want to make note of all the massive amounts of voter fraud going on! Add that to the electoral votes and people just giving up, it sure looks like the left has a BIG chance of getting back in. Now, step back and think if Obama and his Administration look bad, what will a Clinton Administration and all the evil she and her husband have festered all these years look like?
So, I know I hear Trump is not going to make it, Trump doesn’t tell us the truth, Trump is a democrat, secretly…etc…etc…etc! But, he at least is not backing down and can give as good as he gets, he doesn’t need anyone elses money and his family are winners….BIG improvement over what is there, “YUGE” as he says. We can assume that he wants only to be in there 4 years and will pick a great VP that will carry on…but you know, if he has turned this country around for the better, bet he will be voted in another 4. I am not going to lose sleep over politics, but it sure as hell is always in the back of my mind, no matter what I am doing….we are fighting pure EVIL!

I thought the 1981 was a year, but thought I would ask. My youngest will be 36 in a couple of weeks, he is a Conservative, so there is hope with your generation, it looks like. Thanks for letting us know, I was not being nosey, but wondered how many years you had under your belt of crap that has been shoved at us. There is a wide range of ages that are on the blog, which is always good! 😉

I think there are quite a few people who will sit this election out if they decide the wrong person is chosen and we only need to look at the past two Presidential elections. People are sick and tired of what is happening in Washington and they are finally coming to realize that the Democrats and Republicans are on the same side with only minor differences between them. In the end both parties feel they are the ruling class and we are the ruled class, they feel they are above us and know what is best for us. There is a reason why nothing really changes no matter which party is in charge…
Yes, it is good to see the younger generation isn’t totally lost but I hope there are enough of them out there!

There are also those who believe that Nader got enough votes in Florida in 2000 to take the vote away from Gore. It doesn’t take much if the votes come from the right localities.

The electoral college puts a whole different spin on the topic. A few states will control the outcome regardless of the popular vote. Scary thought.

We do have to take these national polls with a grain of salt because all it takes is a couple of early victories and all bets could be off.

OT This is not going to end well if “family members” are able to control taking someones guns away from them! Get a pissed off “family member” that calls in and all of a sudden you get your guns confiscated and you are being mentally evaluated? What if it is the “family member” that has issues and is just trying to get you busted? Hmmm…only in California OR Illinois where I live could this kind of law take hold…but we know once in play, just like Obamacare, how do you stop it?

Well, when you get a chance watch it or catch it a bit at a time. It just brings back into memory WHY we do not want these two back in the White House….just because they have aged doesn’t mean they are less dangerous….they are more “seasoned” and more capable of doing damage in my estimation….they have not mellowed…that is what we need to remember.

Lou, that is exactly my point. Withhold your vote in protest, or vote for a 3rd party candidate and you may as well be voting for Hillary.
If you want philosophical purity, you’re not going to find it anytime soon. The question then is: Will a Republican candidate damage the country more than Hillary? Before I let Hilary stroll into the Oval Office, I’ll vote for just about anyone who isn’t a Democrat.

Dr. J., a few years ago your presumption would be accurate – any republican would be better than a democrat.
That is no longer true. There is absolutely no difference between the parties. They violate the Constitution and our Rights, they want big government, they want high taxes, they want global interests to have control, they want open borders, they bow down to PC, they put citizens and the Country last instead of first.
They make me sick. The way the republicans in Congress have completely screwed us, why would you even think of believing anything any of those liars say???

Laura, I know what you are saying about no difference between the parties…and in most part that is true…however, I do see a few that have the countries best interest at heart. I see that on both sides of the aisle. What we are allowed to see is one thing, but underneath I think they are trying to hide that there is a force trying to take them down. We only hear and see what the media is allowing. I have to believe that there is still some good in the Senate/House that knows this might be our last chance. I also think that the Military has ones that are working in the shadows trying to right the wrongs that have been done. When I stop believing in the good trying to over take the bad is when I give up and I am not ready to do that yet. Yes, I am pissed at what I see happening, but please don’t give up, I think there is still a movement in those shadows.

Dr. J, you are up late OR early, not sure which! I just do not see much difference between the establishment ends of both parties. I know there are a handful of Republicans that are still trying to make a difference….I think Trump will hold his own and I think that Cruz will still be in the running….the others, I am not buying what they are selling. I know there is the issue of Cruz not being able to become President, but I am on the fence on that one…I am leaning to why the hell not? a Trump/Cruz ticket would be my ideal, will have to wait and see what happens on that one. Now, can Trump hold his own against everything the Clintons and the DNC can throw at him? I truly think he can…that is what I want in my President, he may have other issues, but then again so do I….I want to let him have his chance. I will never be able to forgive myself IF I let someone like Clinton in there and I had a chance to help stop it.

One last bit, I’m old enough to remember Eisenhower, but my political interest didn’t get going until the Johnson and Nixon administrations.
I can’t tell you how sorry I am that Barry Goldwater didn’t defeat Johnson.
