Michael Bloomberg is ‘seriously considering’ a third party run for President in 2016
The country is almost split down the middle in terms of politics and as such the race for the Presidency is likely to be close no matter who the nominees are. If a person with both name recognition and money was able to mount a third party candidacy is could throw the election results into disarray and effect the outcome of the election. But is there such a candidate out there?
According to this story there just might be, it appears as if former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg is now “seriously considering” a run for the Presidency as an Independent. Here is more:
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is seriously considering a run for president and is asking aides to explore a potential bid.
Mr. Bloomberg, 73 years old, has long contemplated a run at the White House. But the unlikely rise and continued strength of Donald Trump, along with polls suggesting Hillary Clinton’s campaign may be flagging, have driven the billionaire businessman closer than ever before to entering the race, a close adviser said Saturday.
Eyeing a potential opening for the first time, Mr. Bloomberg has retained a consultant to help him run on the independent ballot in state primaries. He has commissioned polls to test his path to victory. And he has directed the close circle of advisers who worked for him as mayor and have remained by his side over the past two years since he left office to begin mapping out a blueprint for a run, one adviser said.
That adviser said the former mayor has been upset by what he sees as extremist rhetoric from Republicans in the race, as well as a leftward turn from Mrs. Clinton, who is fending off an unexpectedly strong challenge in the Democratic primary from the more liberal Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
The article goes on to say that his path to the Presidency “remains narrow and unlikely” however I believe it could have a big impact on the outcome of the election if he decides to run. Mitt Romney might have lost the 2012 election when a video surfaced of him saying that he did not care about the 47% of voters who would vote for Barack Obama no matter what.
This was spun by the mainstream media to suggest that he did not care about the poor but that is not what Mitt Romney meant. Mitt Romney simply meant that he should not focus on votes he could not win during the election, but rather he should focus on the 5% or so of voters who could be swayed to vote for him, he was right and that is where this Michael Bloomberg news gets very interesting.
If the 2016 election is as close as I think it will be, and recent history suggests it will be, a third party candidate who can gain the support of even just 5% of the vote could impact this election in a remarkable way. In my opinion most of the people who decide to vote for Michael Bloomberg will be Democratic voters and I cite the former New York City Mayor’s position on gun control as proof very few Republican voters will support him as President. This could be enough to hand the victory to the Republican nominee.
And there is another aspect to this story that I find fascinating; if Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and Michael Bloomberg are the three candidates on the ballot in November it will mean that all the candidates have ties to New York. Is it possible this could split the New York vote and hand that state to Donald Trump? If so that could be a game changer.

The Donald, IS a hell of a businessman! He knows how to play the media and I bet this is really pissing them off. They play right into his hands! I know they thought it would be the other way around, but I just do not see that happening…they cannot get a good grip on him.

Well, he does have the money to run, like Trump, without any donors. That is a very scary situation, if he does. Not sure how it would split the vote. Isn’t he supposed to be a “Republican”? If that is what a Republican is, then guess I am not that kind of Republican….he wants as much control of peoples lives as Obama and I just cringe at the thought of him in the White House about as much as if Clinton or Sanders was. I would think that it might help Trump, but the way things are going, there is nothing that is a sure thing anymore. Maybe he will just turn his interest to something else shortly and this will be short lived, huh?

Bloomberg has switched back and forth between political parties for his own benefit. In my opinion, and you are not going to like this, he is much like Trump when it comes to this.

It could be diversionary, as Hillary is in a heap o’ trouble, Sanders is being screwy, and the DNC has ignored Webb or Webber (?). Joe Biden, who really could be presidential quality, has been luke warm and remains off-center with political remarks that only serve Obama.
I was invited to Bloomberg’s townhouse a number of times for dinner engagements, but always had scheduling conflicts. His only problem is, guns, sugar, cigarettes, people gambling, but aside from that…

Lou, check out the video I posted before this post. It highlights Donald Trump’s past positions on the issues in his own words. I think this shows us that Trump is not who he is claiming to be now. Maybe he has changed but how are we to really know?

I thought Webb dropped out, but O’Malley is still in the race, I believe. I also think that Biden is a good man, just not who I want in the White House. He has just kind of disappeared, wonder why?

As for Webb, have not heard anything more about him, so maybe it is a forgone conclusion that he will not be on any ticket.
I was listening to Red Eye Radio last night, like I always do…and they were still discussion Biden getting in the race. They were of the opinion that unless Sanders drops out or people do not keep pumping him up AND if Clinton somehow gets busted (fat chance), then that might be the only way they can slip him in. At this point, I guess anything could happen.

Mike is not a “bad” guy. He believes that he is saving the world from itself. Billionaires have their quirks at times. Old time millionaire Republican NY Governor Nelson Rockefeller, was a fantastic man. He also believed in allowing people to make their own decisions. I knew him, also, since 1956 when he did a campaign stop and I was in the newspaper with him. My family was friendly with him. The Rockefellers were nice people.

Yep, he does have “quirks”, ha! Guess I just prefer making my own decisions on IF I want a soda….don’t drink it, but don’t want someone telling me I can only have a certain size, either. I just would like to have less government and not more of it. That must have been something to know the Rockefellers!!!

My family has been politically connected in NYC since FDR/Fiorillo LaGuardia era.
Mayor Robert Wagner and Mrs. Wagner were very nice people. Lindsey, served with an uncle, and I used to look at him towering almost as tall as DeBlasio.
Rockefeller, had recommended me for the Republican Party in NYC and I was approached by Democrats, then Republicans, and Democrats again, to run for office. Rockefeller also wanted me to become affiliated with the Council on Foreign Relations, they were independent, and back then, newpapers having anything they did, was respected.

Steve, yes I try to make the right decisions, maybe doesn’t happen all the time, but I still think they are mine to make.
Brit, that must have been a time when the Newspapers and Journalists could not be bought and were honest and reported the truth….there is a new concept, huh?
Running for office would have been a good thing then, as well, now, who knows who will get their hooks in you and try and sway your opinions and votes. Different era and that era is long gone, I think.

I’m too old now. I would have wanted to have been in a minor office and stay there a few years to learn it and do it good. Locally, I still have the paperwork, because I wanted to run for County Sheriff. I went to the Conservative Party because since Reagan, I have been a registered Conservative. They had no interest in me, and had their own guy. That ended that.

Sheriff is a great position, I do not think that most people know how much power a County Sheriff has. We have a great Sheriff here in Macon County, he is a Democrat, but I vote for him, because he has morals and values. I believe he is the only Democrat I have ever voted and put out signs for,,,hmmmm. Anyway, he believes in the 2nd Amend,, is a good father and husband, someone I call “good friend” and he gets my vote.
I have been a registered Republican since 1972 when I was able to start voting. Now I have to wonder if it really matters (I know it still does a little), who and what we put into office should be doing what we tell them to do and it just doesn’t happen now. That is the most frustrating part of this whole issue. I think we could have gotten alot done in favor of American IF those voted into office this past election had done as we asked them to do. I just think there is an agenda that has to be followed and they have other ideas. What do we do in that situation?

Bloomberg, did a lot to help NYC, but he should recognize that his calling was in, NYC, because the rest of the nation is not ready for his sophistication. Nanny was correctly tattooed/branded to him. He wrecked the bar businesses with the no smoking policy. I was surprised that inspectors did not disappear.

That was an unsophisticated remark on my part but I think in terms of black and white with very little gray. From afar he did look to have literally not figuratively bought the mayoral election and as a middle-class guy I take offense although de Blasio’s using his son’s afro to sleaze into office was no better. I couldn’t imagine the coast to coast nanny state Bloomberg would try to impose. Where are the future statesmen this country so sorely needs?

Those people are apprehensive to even try and run for an office. The media/journalists dig up dirt on those that have little or no dirt and you know once something is out there, true or not, there are people that will believe it. The media is bad about putting questionable information out on someone and then put a little blurb that they misspoke or however they want to phrase it…the damage is done and the persons reputation is ruined on FALSE information and reporting….no, I do not think I would run for office. I guess everyone has a few skeletons in their closets they don’t want out, but why they have to be vicious about it is beyond me.

That might go back to Boss Tweed days. Something never mentioned is that Tweed, really did help people. He got jobs and that helped support families. The money angle is the same today, the higher up the ladder they go, there is bound to be more money involved. Someone stands to make more money, and someone else stands to lose some money. Nothing has ever been the same since George Washington was sworn in as president in New York City. He was a bootlegging moonshiner. He grew and sold untaxed tobacco. He was known to procure firearms for a band of rebels.

It would be nice, but where to find enough leadership quality? No matter what someone does, there will always be someone in opposition or something that rubs the masses in both directions. Bloomberg, in my opinion, is, the greatest/best mayor that NYC ever had but, it was only possible due to the ground work of Rudy Giuliani, who worked literally, without resting. Both mayors, were, and remain, anti-gun, because they saw too much of the effects of gun violence, and for that matter, any cop, firefighter, ambulance drew member, sees the same and responded to same, for countless number of calls during a career. When I was Homicide qualified, it wasn’t because I was some sleuth, it was simply because in the Robbery Squads, cops respond to robberies, and there is a dead body on the floor with a gunshot perporation wound. All subsequent reports will eventually be brought to the attention of the Mayor’s Office, and it’s like reading what is going on today in Chicago. Mayors, respond by trying to grasp an immediate cure.

Alot of big cities are going downhill fast, it seems. I grew up in one of them, was a good place to live, once. Chicago, of course has made a name for itself, as well. Giuliani, in my opinion was a good mayor, as you stated. I have seen the violence being an EMT and having worked with the County Coroner and Emergency services. Some of the places, as we read, that have banned guns, have the highest crime rate, ie Chicago. I just do not see any immediate cure now. I just do not think by taking my rights away a little at a time is going to make it all better. A shame, isn’t it?

Police, are reactionary, after the fact. At times, when the gang wars were going on, we slowed it down and arrested the winners. Animal behaviors, unchecked.
There is only one cure, and I am a staunch advocate of it: Demand, Constitutional Carry & Stand Your Ground, to be made Law-of-the-Land.
You will see how fast the savages start behaving.
