Sunday, April 10th open thread: ‘Play for Today’
Here is the open thread for Sunday, April 10th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we covered 8 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!
I had trouble deciding what to share today for the musical selection so I went back to my all-time favorite band–The Cure. Here is “Play for Today.” This has always been one of my favorite songs by The Cure and this version features a very young band while they were still in their “anti-image” phase. Eventually they went “full ’80’s” but not until a few years later.
“It’s not a case of telling the truth, some lies just fit the situation”
I think that line applies to politics in America today…

America's Watchtower 
A little History: Jean Michel Jarre wanted to make a link between Space and Earth in Houston. Astronaut Ron McNair on the Space Shuttle Challenger supposed to play Saxophone while in Space and Jarre music in Houston. Well we all know what happen to Challenger
From Wiki : “” The last track on the album was originally scheduled to include a saxophone part recorded by astronaut Ron McNair on the Space Shuttle Challenger, making it the first piece of music to be recorded in outer space, but on 28 January 1986, 73 seconds after lift-off, the shuttle disintegrated and the entire Challenger crew were killed. The track was dedicated to McNair and the other astronauts on board Challenger.””

I knew it was after 1984 because I was out of high school but I have to admit I had to look up the year it happened.

Now I have to say I am confused! I was certain it happened after I graduated because I have a memory of being at work and finding out at lunch but now I am not sure!

If you view a few more of the postings on that website you’ll find that other things as we remember them have changed! That’s why they’re calling it Mandela Effect – who some remember Nelson Mandela dying years ago and here we find he died in 2013. “The phenomenon where a group of people discover that a global fact,

Remain In Light Is A Really a Masterpiece… Fear Of music, I’ve use it in some Christians Blog, as I am a “Pagan Heretic” ..that was funny, I don’t know much about paganism all The Pantheon of God and Godess, is that make me an heretic ? Looool I’m sure Calvin is laughing and you didn’t make laugh Calvin just like that…(Heresy)lol.

This is an reply to what you stated down the way about christian-dum groups not thinking you holy enough for them. God pulled Saul (Paul) out of the belly of the beast to be His Apostle and he was considered a righteous, upstanding man in the Jewish Religion (Pharisee of pharisees!). But, God didn’t see him that way and later Paul states that all his ‘fame and position in the Jewish religion he consider as dung.’ If it wasn’t of God it wasn’t worth holding on to! Grace Brother!

Goodmorning all! I remember this happening and the disbelief that went with it….the same feeling I had on 9-11 when the towers were hit. I think when something like this happens you remember where you were at the time….it was sad times, but a time when people cared about others, even if they did not know them. Now, for some reason, things have changed….there are alot of people that no longer “care” and that is sad.

I was at a traffic light as I came off the Long Island Expressway. Looked at the beautiful, clear blue sky, no humidity, gentle breeze that slightly cooled the sunshine warmth, and thought, What a beautiful day, it is”. When I got to where I was going, my friend greets me at the door of his office and says, “These two jets, just hit the World Trade Center…”; I waited for a punchline. Then I glanced up at the television screen.
I was at the 1993 WTC incident. My blood ran cold. The suffocating airless smell. Thoughts of “What If?”. As it turns out, in 2001, after the towers fell, both my son, and son-in-law, were at the scene, evacuating people. A friend on the FDNY, saw almost everyone he knew, dead, as he stood in the rubble digging his brothers out. He ended up with almost 30 years of service, being retired. He would call me, and speak differently (PTSD), as he never served in the military, but now, suddenly understood my feelings.
Of the things positive to take place, the American flag, was ordered by shouts of veterans, not to go half-mast, but to be flown full-mast, in Full Battle Defiance (Payback Time!).

Strange how those sensory memories stick with you, isn’t it? When you are in emergency situations they can be overload to your senses, as well…I can fully understand the PTSD. I have had that in certain emergency situations that I will not get into, but are in my memory and a smell or place will set off.
What I am not happy about is all the high ups in the military that are being forced out and replaced….what will be left and why would anyone want to serve under this CinC now? Never heard you served in the military, Brit! Thank you for your time spent protecting the country….now it is a whole different military, I fear.

USMC. Machine gunner (0331) in an infantry company. DaNang and WaVang Province. I did my job. Enlisted while a senior in high school. A boy.

Also was trained in CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management), that should have been crucial for those that did search and rescue/recovery at the towers, as soon as they went off shift. The adrenaline is very high at that point.

When there were things that I personally saw, as did most other cops, and firefighters also, I used to flush my head out at a barroom, to turn human again, so I could go home. Stuff like what is bad, you don’t want to bring home with you. I forbade discussing my job at the dinner table. I wanted have dinner with my wife and kids, not what was on the streets. It is also why I removed all the commendation plaques from my walls, because my home is where I wanted my children to grow up, and not be a monument to me. Secure the gun. Secure the badge. Light the barbeque. Stress, is a killer. Bring the stress home, and there might be a suicide; Spouse or child. Two firends blew their brains out. One while on-duty. I dealt in robberies, which often has a dead body on the floor. Not mentioning the stuff while on Patrol. Accidents, suicides, and the rest of it. There is a profound lack of stress management in any military or law enforcement/first responder/recovery, operation/agency. I used to do gardening. Photography. Certified for crime scene, then stopped because it became something job related. A friend, became a painter. He used to watch Bob Ross, on television, and the whole lunchroom area, everyone would be in a deep sleep. I used to open windows, throw lights on, and give them the “joyful” USMC wake-up. They thought I was nuts. It was fun.

I grew up a “cops” daughter, I know the stress that can be brought home, my Pop was pretty good at hiding it. The blinds were always closed at dusk, never knew til later why, I am sure you understand what I am saying..He did homicide and plain clothes in the second half of his job, but was a beat cop, motorcycle cop and squads at first. I know when he got dementia, we found out alot of what happened to him during WWII and alot of on the job in the police force. It takes a person with a pretty solid “constitution” to do that job, most do not have a clue. It also takes that same “constitution” to be a firefighter or emergency services person….oh and in answer to you doing gardening…my Pop planted roses, they were beautiful!

I heard about the Challenger while I was at lunch and I remember going back into work and telling a coworker. He said it wasn’t funny to joke about something like that and I told him to go bleep himself because I wouldn’t joke about it.

Judge Scalia was just one of the elites.
This episode [his place of death] pulls back the curtain a bit…
[John] Poindexter [ the owner of the resort] confirmed… that Scalia was not going to pay for his stay at Cibolo Creek Ranch. “He was an invited guest, along with a friend [Foster], just like 35 others,”… Last year,.. a 76-year-old machinist for MIC Group, one of Poindexter’s companies, filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking review of a lower-court decision that summarily dismissed his claim that he was fired based on pretexts because of his age. Scalia participated in the October 5, 2015 decision denying review, thus ending the case in Poindexter’s favor. Scalia’s acceptance of gifts worth several thousands of dollars so soon after ruling in a party’s favor is a clear violation of judicial ethics.
Other significant ethical questions remain unanswered… Poindexter maintains that he did not pay for Scalia’s chartered jet. There is no indication yet whose pocket that money came from, but one can be assured that it did not come from Scalia’s own…Similarly, it is not yet known whether Scalia’s companion, [,Poindexter’s benefited from the Supreme Court’s extraordinary five-to-four order the preceding ?.. that halted implementation of the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Clean Power Plan,” which would have shifted some energy production from fossil fuels to renewable sources such as wind and solar.
This is not the only time Scalia has been caught hobnobbing during private hunting junkets with people who had vested interests in his actions as a Supreme Court justice.
