Sunday, May 15th open thread: ‘Savior’
Here is the open thread for Sunday, May 15th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we discussed 7 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!
Now on to the musical selection of the week: Skillet has been labeled as a Christian rock band but I do not think that label is quite accurate, I would consider them to be a band of Christians who know how to rock. While the members of Skillet are Christians most of the band’s music is not Christian-themed but they do have some songs which are undeniably Christian-themed and today I am going to share one of them. This one is called “Savior.”

I guess most bands DO remind us of someone else, either the sound to the song OR the singer….think maybe that is why we are drawn to some over others.
Are you better SDL with the weather starting to get warmer? I have had a heck of a season with the allergies…do not normally have that problem, but most everyone I know has had the sinus problems that will not stop and the coughing and congestion….

Ya, I agree, they do not sound like a “Christian” band and that might be the appeal to some people, it IS, but not quite, so it covers a wider range of people, maybe?

I think so. Zip and I have discussed the subliminal messaging in rock music and the youth being indoctrinated through music without even realizing it so it is good to see people jumping around to a Christian-themed song!

Most, if not all, of the contemporary christian-dum music to me sounds like self-consuming- whining carnal participants! The way this one starts out, the verses, are to the Jewish Nation of Israel that God formed to be priest to teach and proclaim the LIVING GOD to all the Nations of the world – who were idol worshippers. The downfall of the Israel Nation is they mixed w/ the pagan idol worshippers and ended up rejecting the true and Living God! Christian-dum has taken what God meant for the Nation of Israel and claimed/applied it to themselves today, resulting in all sorts of confusion and mis-understanding of God’s Word (I’ve just learned this recently, last couple of years, after having listened for years to all man’s interpreted teaching of what God is saying in the Bible -finding out it was wrong!). Plus the bibles they use omit parts of God’s word and change the meaning of it, destroying the faith of those who long to know and live the Truth! Those revised bibles that pollute His Word and the keep God’ Truth from entering the minds of those who read them – keeping them blind, void of God’s substance inside- which is the god of this world’s plan! Even the lyric verse ‘What you want, What you need’ to a carnal fleshly mind is totally different than a God-centered Spirit led mind! Sorry to say Steve but …
God only need one reliable Book that He preserved His words: O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. (Ps 12:6-7 KJV).
When driving rarely do I listen to ‘christian contemporary’ music. They sound more whiny than even ‘the worldly stations’ at times – to me! The questions to ask when seeing christian players on stage or listening to them on the radio is: Who’s be glorified, what’s the focus of the words and music? Is it pointing to God, to Christ, the working of the Holy Spirit, Or to their own ‘feel good’ flesh: ‘look how holy and special I am because He chose me!’ What’s the spirit behind the lyrics, music and mood, does it match up w/ Scripture?
Are the flashing hypnotic lights and heavy metal jarring sounds bringing the qualities of the LORD to mind, to heart, to action – edifying the spirit within the listener? Turn the sound off and watch. Are they really jumping around the way God desires? Or is this again another form of deception, beguilement of the adversary who conned Eve with words of enticements. Does it bring a person closer to the Real God or to the world’s god? ‘What are those ‘secrets inside’? (The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9). Just my ‘out there’ thoughts!

I posted this song with the hope of starting a conversation like this and I am so glad you chimed in on this because I posted it with you in mind. We have talked about how music can be used subliminally to indoctrinate the youth and I had reservations about posting this.
The lights are part of many heavy metal shows and last week we saw the singer of Breaking Benjamin throwing around the devil horns, followed by the audience doing the same. This week we see the singer pointing to heaven as he sings the lyrics about needing a savior and it is followed by the audience jumping up and down. Skillet plays at an event in New Hampshire called Soulfest, which has all Christian bands performing over three days so most of the people there are Christians.
There are several heavy metal Christian bands out there today but I wonder if they are true Christians or if they have found a niche they decided they could profit from. If they are honest in their belief then I don’t have a problem with them using their music to get to the people.

OH so now you’re setting me up! are you!! Yes, the market is ripe for the picking Steve. I agree that music can be instrumental (oops pun) in providing a platform to sing out one’s heart & profess the truth of God (David). This comes to mind: Ezekiel 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Lucifer was in charge of musick, so he’s mastered the ‘manipulation’ techniques of it to deceive and influence the masses today.
Here’s where we get Satan walking w/ fire: 28:14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
I’ll be on guard now, with this ‘being set-up’ agenda!!

LOL! Not really a setup but I like this song and band and I thought about you when I was posting it because I knew you would have an opinion on it. I didn’t know about Lucifer being in charge of the music so I find that to be interesting.

Does this cover just office visits and maybe labs, but not if you have surgery, the hospital costs, meds, etc? Seems like I remember reading something about this as well.

From what I read it does not cover office visits. The theory is that is your responsibility. It does cover surgery. You incur the cost and submit it it to the plan. The members send you directly their monthly contribution to pay the cost. This is what is meant by sharing.
This might work better for those who have not reached the age where health issues begin to occur. Or if you don’t want the government to control your life. This frees you from paying the penalty for not having health insurance.

CJ, we have friends that just cannot afford the $800 a month coverage, so they are going to pay what he told us was $1500 penalty for the year. The $800 was just for him, to add his kids or wife was more….so much for the “affordable” insurance. We can only hope that Trump will figure something out that works better. We pay $300 thru the company my husband retired from,..but at any time it can be jacked up. I know we are responsible for all the illegals coming in to make sure they have everything they need….seems to me, something is WRONG with that! Once again, I can only hope that Trump has more compassion for the American people that are being screwed on a daily basis thant ones that are committing an illegal act when they cross the borders….Obama cares nothing for any of us, except to make sure we pay our “fair share”…..the fact that he is flying them up to the US border so they can cross, well, imagine they are charging that to us too! We are ALL running up a big illegal TAB, aren’t we?
